At the dark shades in the arena’s periphery, I meet with Sabrina’s ‘clone’. Well, that was how the masked ‘Sabrina’ in front of me introduces herself.
“So, so… Hear me Aaron,” Spirited and teasing, Sabrina holds my arm in an ingratiating manner. “I like the way you are doing things now. Initially, I was hoping you show lots of your abilities, then after you pick to join Purple Orca, the other captains will be ‘shocked’, and then, and then, they’ll realize how capable I am as a captain! Ain’t that nice?”
There is this childish nuance to Sabrina’s voice. I can tell, this woman is dangerous. “Aaron, you will pick Purple Orca, right? You don’t have to show your abilities. I will take care of the rest! During the Combat Exam, you can just lie down and like let your foe have a free shot!”
Sabrina Crook, the very woman who I treat as my savior, is quite a strange character. Her purple eyes are enchanting, yet it gives you a sense of danger as if were lying about something… Lying about her own innocence.
Crook, huh? Surnames in a medieval setting usually are relevant. Just by a person’s name alone, you can learn a lot. “Captain of Purple Orca, you can trust me.” I show Sabrina my sincerest smile.
Combat Exam. Watching idly from the arena’s shades, my thought run astray to the person by the name "Sabrina Crook". I cannot trust that person. I come to this conclusion as I realize one inconsistency about this person.
Back when I was still a prisoner of my so-called father, Sabrina was the ‘last’ person to realize the massacre of Retsej Barony. This is suspicious in many ways. While I was in the underground basement, I had my fair share of seeing dead people. Among this ‘dead’ are a relative and increasing amount of Purple Orca mages.
How is this relevant? It’s simple. No matter what, isn’t it suspicious that the captain of Purple Orca keeps on sending her mages to one specific place at a time without anyone of them returning to HQ?
I was too under the pressure at that time so the thought didn’t register to me. Moreover, Philip’s magic that he was using at that time is very similar to Sabrina which is equally arousing my suspicion. I could only think that a conspiracy is going on behind the scenes.
The cheering of the crowd reaches my ears. In the dueling field, Yami Sukehiro and Morgen Light are dishing out their magic abilities. Light vs Dark!
“Sigh,” I shouldn’t worry about things I cannot prove. “Yami! Morgen! Do your best!!” I join the cheering.
Yami is having difficulties dodging and parrying Morgen’s light orbs. While his Ki sensing is impressive, the bright flashes of the light orbs are disturbing his eyesight and the speed alone of each light orbs are incredibly fast.
Morgen doesn’t have it easy too. Though he has the advantage of distance, he is spending too much magic which is quite exhausting both in mind, body, and mana. What is worse is Yami’s dark magic’s defensive attributes are incredibly tough.
While Yami is putting passive pressure on Morgen, Morgen is exerting passive pressure. To the eyes of the observer, it will look like Morgen have the initiative, but no. It is Yami’s initiative.
The moment when Yami finds an opening, it will be Morgen’s end. In the heat of the battle, Morgen made a mistake in his judgment— he is fighting too long, and he has become too tired. Maintaining a battle of attrition despite knowing that you are on the losing end is Morgen’s mistake.
Like in my speculations, Yami viciously pursues the opening after Morgen summons too few light orbs short of suppressing Yami. Ignoring the light orbs that pass by him, Yami rushes with vigor. “Dark Cloaked Black Blade.”
Stretching the stick in his grip to Morgen’s neck, Yami coolly smiles at his victory. Morgen sighs in regret for his defeat, but it is a wonderful fight nonetheless.

The fight of two opposing attributes earns massive applause from the crowd and the magic knight captains, all of them standing in ovation. The applause and cheering didn’t stop as the next duelists come to the center of the arena.
Speaking of the next contenders, then that would be me and Neren Alviore.
Neren Alviore has dark hair and is handsome. I remember the guy quite vividly for two reasons. First is this guy’s proclamation of becoming the strongest shadow magic user, and second, this guy reminds me a lot of my bullies. Pompous, rich ass who doesn’t know the difference between heaven and earth. Basically, ignorant A-holes.
“I am…” Neren stretches his arms to the sky and with a powerful burst of mana, he announces himself to the world. “Neren Alviore! The future Shadow General!”
Fuuuuckk~ I want to kill him.
We stand face to face each other. As per the duelist’s courtesy, I also introduce myself. “Aaron Jester, your challenger.”
My gaze momentarily lands on Sabrina. A smile creeps from my lips. I just had a nasty thought. Sabrina is screwing with me. She is blackmailing me, and it looks like I have no choice but to follow her instructions. That may be true, but the option of disobeying is always there.
What if Sabrina really does involve the kingdom in pursuing me for a crime I didn’t commit? I am not the victimizer, I am the victim! Sabrina’s threats are real, but the consequences she is telling me are too exaggerated.
Oho. It looks like I have a way out. “Neren, don’t die on me.” Instead of following Sabrina’s instructions, I should do the opposite of what she is asking.
At Acier’s signaling word. “Fight,” I immediately rouse my mana.
Still holding my broom, I cast and shout my magic “Singularity Divide” to it. From the tip of my broom, a dark line stretches in front of me.
A broom is a magic tool. Even if it weren’t for the usage of offensive magic, that doesn’t stop me from casting offensive magic on it. Because the effects of a magic broom are to ascend, descend, and fly, the propulsion of my [Singularity Divide] has become intensely explosive.
It only took an instant for the magic to mercilessly reach Neren.
Plop~
The sound of something dropping resounds in the arena. Neren’s right arm up to his shoulder drops on the cold stone pavement.
Dreadful silence permeates the surroundings.
