Did he just hear that correctly?

The blond-haired man was still in shock.

‘He’s not including me in that lunacy, is he?’ Henry thought in his head and reached for some water. At this moment, his throat felt completely parched in the face of Milo’s prior statement.

If only his fiance would have never brought this guy over.

Pondering for a moment, he soon shook his head in defeat. There was nothing he could do at this point other than persevere to the end. Meanwhile, the demon was already further ahead with his mind.

He pulled out a small tablet and opened a document before giving it to his friend. After taking a look, Henry was astounded. There was nothing left of his former despair.

What appeared on the touchscreen was a picture of Milo himself.

No.

It was a picture of someone looking nearly identical to the ridiculous demon in front of him. Although Milo mentioned it before, Henry was still surprised after seeing the truth for himself. Their faces contained identical features but there was something different about their aura.

Whereas Milo was easy-going and carefree, his human version seemed more mature and reliable. Yet, there was something deeper in his confident gaze, as if he would judge everyone falling into his sight.

“This person is Milo Hayes. My human counterpart and our target. Due to his outstanding comprehension and magical talent, he’s the person most likely to be appointed as heir of the Spirit Tower. Also, he’s currently studying at Gaia as one of the most valuable and important students at the age of eighteen. They say he’s close to being the greatest genius in the last three centuries.”

Henry was shocked. Not because of this guy’s over-the-top resume but also because of the fact that Milo wants to scheme against him. Although his friend had great confidence in those prophetic dreams of his, Henry remained skeptical.

In theory, the average demon doesn’t have to fear humans because they’re simply in a different league than regular mortals but Milo, at his best, was merely on the level of a strong human.

His counterpart, however, could be considered to be the best of the best. The absolute elite. For Milo to have a soul connection with someone like that is straight-up nuts.

“How come your human version is the complete opposite of you? Is it to balance the difference between him and your pathetic self?”

Henry’s mocking tone made Milo bite his tongue. Does he need to say it like that?

“Can I continue now?” Milo asked with grudges in his heart.

Henry just smiled and leaned back in his chair. “Don’t let me stop you.”

Shaking his head, the demon clicked his tongue and thought back to what he wanted to say.

“Anyway, the point is that he’s a variable that will strongly influence the world in the future…but not in a good way.”

“What do you mean by that?”

At that question, Milo leaned back against the wall and crossed his arms.

“In the eyes of the public, Milo Hayes is an outstanding genius with a bright future. However, the real him is cruel and heartless. A selfish creature that does everything for power and authority. He doesn’t shy away from murder or blackmail and is corrupted by heart.”

Hearing this, Henry nodded in understanding.

The druid is aware that demons are different from what they appear on the surface. Otherwise, he wouldn’t associate with Milo in the first place.

To put it simply, there is a phenomenon called Cosmic Laws that keeps the balance of the world. Still, they only exert their influence when absolutely necessary. For general matters, special beings exist to interfere in their place. An example of this is demons and angels.

As incarnations of Chaos and Order, they influence the world and their inhabitants, similar to a chore or a job. Demons, in particular, are responsible for sinners and give them the final push.

Of course, there are demons who are better and worse on the job. Milo could be said to have reached rock bottom without a single success. All his schemes ended up in failure.

That’s why Henry just couldn’t help but tease his friend times again.

“I must say, your counterpart’s personality is so rotten, he’s more of a demon than you are! He basically achieved everything you always wanted, right?” Henry laughed, causing Milo to narrow his eyes in displeasure.

“I’m being serious here, you idiot.”

“Sure, sure, whatever.”

Rubbing the space between his eyebrows, Milo let out a long sigh. Meanwhile, Henry, after calming down, turned serious and put the tablet on his desk.

“I don’t know, man. For all it's worth, this doesn’t seem like the right job for you. Not only is he on a different level compared to you but also a protected asset by the Spirit Tower and the Academy. I think it’s better you just focus and some street scammers and do some easy tasks.”

Henry tried convincing his friend but Milo bit his lip and shook his head with conflicted emotions.

“No, Henry. Every time I sleep, I see what he has done and will do in my dreams. It’s like they’re telling me to do something, compelling me to act. This is something I have to do and I won’t compromise at any cost. I wouldn’t have tried escaping from heaven if not for this.”

Seeing Milo’s firm will, Henry shook his head wryly.

“Alright, I understand. I will help you...for old time’s sake. Tell me what you need and I’ll try my best to make it work,” the blond-haired man answered, putting a bright smile on the young demon’s face.

“Wonderful! In that case, I was hoping you could make something that might be a little difficult.”

‘A little difficult?’ Henry’s thoughts strayed away as Milo got embarrassed.

The druid already had a bad premonition seeing his friend’s weird behavior, making him impatient.

“Spit it out, what is it?”

Milo grinned innocently. “Oh, nothing much. Just a bottle or two of some unblemished Life Elixir.”

Rubbing his ears, Henry almost thought he heard wrong. He knew that he was really trying his luck today but this request undoubtedly crossed the line.

Normal medicinal potions can be purchased commercially as long as one has the money. They’re expensive, sure, but it’s better than losing your life. They’re made out of precious herbs infused with concentrated mana and purified beast blood.

But what is Life Elixir?

Clearly, they’re in a league of their own. Elixirs simply can’t be categorized as potent medicines. Consuming one of them is like undergoing a rebirth. Even a ripped-out heart could be regenerated as long as the patient still has a drop of life left.

The problem, though, is that they’re almost impossible to make. Ignoring the fact that they can’t be bought with money, the ingredients alone are as rare as finding a dragon’s egg. Some are even rumored to be extinct. For diluted elixirs, it might still be possible but for the unblemished state - it's crazy!

Henrick was utterly flabbergasted and shocked to the core.

“You’re…kidding, right?”

“Absolutely serious. I know it’s hard but I need it.”

Hard my ass!! Henrick was close to losing his mind. How much longer does he need to endure this? Can’t he just get a break, already?

“Milo, do you even know what you're asking for? You’re aware this elixir is not something used for normal flesh wounds, right?”

“Yes, I know, but the elixir is necessary to save a key figure later down the line. You could say it’s the variable that decides the success or failure of the plan.”

“What plan exactly, if I may ask?” Henry raised an eyebrow.

“Well, I’m still working out the details but don’t worry, I will tell you sometime later~.”

‘Or never.’ The druid already knew it was a lost cause asking him for details. However, in some way, he felt more at ease without knowing what Milo was planning to do.

After all, Ignorance is Bliss.

Plus, it may be easier to get the ingredients for the elixir with Milo’s help. Although he was an idiot, Milo had connections that normal humans couldn’t even dream of. That way, it might actually be possible.

Chuckling helplessly, Henry turned toward Milo in defeat.

“You’re a madman, truly. We can try but there is no guarantee it will succeed. Even then, you’re going to get the ingredients on your own!”

“That works out!” Milo answered with a haughty smirk. As long as his friend would help him brew the stuff, he could do the rest on his own.

Walking to the window, Milo opened it and wanted to jump when he suddenly remembered something. He looked back and smiled.

Seeing his actions, Henry’s face distorted. “What now?”

“...Is there a way you could get your hands on the list of students this year? The freshmen, specifically.” Milo asked casually, making Henrik frown.

“Are you going to do something stupid?”

“No?”

Are you going to do something nasty?”

“...Maybe not.”

“...”

“...”

Sighing heavily, Henry shook his head and waved his hand. “I will send it to your email later.”

Milo just smiled and jumped headfirst out of the window before his body dissolved into a swarm of flies that headed toward the horizon.

Meanwhile, the office was silent. Exhausted, Henrik pushed a hand through his styled hair and bit his lip.

He had a feeling he couldn’t describe in his stomach. The bad kind that kept him thinking without results.

Maybe it was the strange nature of Milo’s newest plans but he felt like there was more behind it.

“I need to make a call…” The druid mumbled to himself before looking at the open window.

He stared for some time and thought back to the moment Milo’s body turned into flies.

Shuddering visibly, he took the disinfection spray and frantically started wiping the whole frame many times over.
