Jonathan would have roughly one million five hundred thousand ryō remaining. He would use a third of that to buy supplies like test tubs, herbs for chemicals, lab stands and a whole lot more. The reason he needed it done within two years was because in two years, the Uchiha massacre would take place. Jonathan was by no means planning on stopping it. But he was inexplicably preparing for it.
As for why Jonathan desired a lab in the first place, it was for his more elusively designed ambitions.
Jonathan possessed a vast amount of knowledge before he entered this world. After he came, he learned even more things that would often be ignored by even the obsessive fans who religiously watched the series. One of those things was the scientific aspect of how this world functioned. Jonathan gained a high level of understanding of herbs, chemicals and other scientific materials that could change this whole world. All he needed was the right materials to work with.
Two years was a long time for Jonathan, but he had the patience. While he was waiting, he would be busy with other important matters.
Upon placing a mark in town, Jonathan teleported away. He assured Katsumi Washizawa that he would check in periodically on how construction was going. If there was a problem, Katsumi assured Jonathan he would be notified at the address he gave him in the Stone Village.
The place Jonathan teleported to was none other than the one he mainly dreaded, the Leaf Village. Using his usual method of leaving the village, Jonathan took to the skies in search of something important. While Jonathan was skimming the bingo book, he saw something that helped jog his memories. They were the Guardian Shinobi Twelve. Chiriku and Asuma Sarutobi were listed with a bounty of thirty and thirty-five million ryō. Jonathan remembered who Chiriku was and what made him so special.
The other guardians were not listed because they were dead or presumed dead. Those people were Kitane, Nauma, Tōu, and Seito. While the one presumed dead was Kazuma. He wouldn't make his appearance for another ten or so years from now. But Jonathan could care less about unfamed shinobi.
When Jonathan arrived at his location from above, he looked around to find the right area to descend. This place was known as the Fire Temple. There were other temples across the Fire country, but this one was special. Jonathan knew this was the right one on the map because it was the one closest to the collection office. That was how Kakazu and Hidan were able to find Chiriku. This temple, much like the Sand's monastery, housed monks. Chiriku was one of those months, and there were many that looked like him but none that could fight boldly like him.
Chiriku had a special ability known as the Gift of the Sages. It was not something easily attainable, but Jonathan was bent on learning that powerful technique. The gate guarding this temple was the Iron Wall Seal. To enter, one needed a special type of chakra. But Jonathan wasn't a fool. He entered from above. As the seal wasn't powerful. The gate itself could easily be destroyed with a strong punch.
Jonathan found a spot to release his smoke form before transforming into Zena. The real Zena was a child right about now and wouldn't enter the temple years from now. Jonathan looked like the older version of him. And because he wore their traditional garments, he by no means was out of place. There were many of these monks around. It wouldn't be odd if some of them hadn't completely recognized Jonathan.
They all had their heads shaven anyway, and generally resembled each other. As long as Jonathan didn't act suspicious, he could walk freely among them without worry. Every time Jonathan saw a monk, he would stop and the two would bow. While he was in the air, he observed their behaviour. It only took a few minutes for Jonathan to correctly understand their pattern of doing things here.
The Fire Temple was quite large. The stairs were long and their pillars were massive in height. Jonathan could just as easily get lost if he wasn't looking for his target. When people weren't looking, Jonathan would activate the sharingan. He could see many people praying or meditating at various locations. Some were so into their false religion that they would even be seen praying outside openly.
After half a minute of walking, Jonathan found the location he was looking for. A room was filled with highly concentrated chakra that was different than others. It wasn't like the chakra of a ninja or a tailed beast. Nor was it anything related to natural energy. This was the Gift of the Sages, a special kind of chakra only given to monks. Jonathan casually ventured to the area and found that the rooms were doorless. It was no surprise to Jonathan. They already had a giant iron, sealed door at the front. What need would they have for more security? So they thought.
Jonathan freely began reading their scrolls. If anyone saw him, they would think he was trying to clear his mind with knowledge. A few minutes was spent reading and Jonathan fully grasped the concept of how to acquire the Gift of the Sages. It was not something too easy.
Almost like training to manipulate natural energy, this sort of chakra had various steps to take. First, one had to hone their mind, body and spirit Then they had to meditate for hours throughout the day without movement. Afterwards, they would have to go without eating for several days a week. When this was done and they finally understood their bodies were nothing but mere shells to be broken out, they would have to mediate in the temple with that same resolve with low chakra in their reserves.
The whole thing was no different than what Jonathan learned about New Agers. He considered them crap.
Based on the information Jonathan had learned, he knew he didn't have to do the prerequisites. He was already in a state of understanding. What he needed to do the most was simply meditate in the temple for a long time. Without making haste, he found an area where the chakra was still present but not faint. The areas that had the most abundance of the Gift of the Sages chakra were crowded with other monks. Unlike Jonathan, who needed the sharingan, they could tell without it.
Jonathan couldn't learn it while using any techniques. In fact, his chakra had to be low enough. As such, he found a secure spot behind a large statue to lodge himself in. Placing a mark there, Jonathan released his technique and gradually drained his chakra. When he was at his lowest point, he stopped and began meditating.
