"Huh?"
When Yamato looked at his surrounding, he felt a little confused as though he lost track of time.
"That's right," he said aloud. "I need to head to my mission." Yamato looked around to see if anyone was nearby. There was no one. Not even an indication that someone had been near Yamato. By the time Yamato left the area, someone from a tree dropped down softly. That person was Jonathan. He lifted his head towards Yamato's direction. An expressionless look could be seen on his face.
A few minutes ago, Jonathan had used sharingan genjutsu to not only extract information from Yamato but also to erase his memories. Yamato could hardly remember the events that took place not too long ago. To keep him from guessing, he moved Yamato away from the scene before releasing the technique. And while Yamato was under his control, he gathered more than enough information needed. Not about Yamato himself but who Yamato was working under: Root.
In the entirety of Naruto, Root's location was never revealed. But now Jonathan knew their exact whereabouts and its many entrances. Not only that, he knew of Yamato's daily pattern.
Jonathan hadn't chosen to fight Yamato without reason. Around this time, both him and Kakashi would lead this part of the story. Yet, there were many unanswered questions and unfilled events that left Jonathan puzzled. He had been planning these last five months on what he would do once he gained that information; but, for him to do so he had to get stronger.
Having only been in one real fight in his entire time being in this world, Jonathan couldn't determine where he stood in the rankings. Sparring with others under the transformation technique was not an option. And going outside the village to attack random citizens or shinobi would only cause security measures to increase. Plus, if that ninja was too weak, Jonathan wouldn't be able to accurately measure his own strength. What Jonathan needed was a scapegoat. That same scapegoat just so happened to be the one to play a major role here.
Yamato was at least at the level of a Chūnin. Combine that with his kekkei genkai and he could rival a Jōnin. The moment Jonathan gazed at Yamato from the Leaf, even he could tell that Yamato's movements were only a little behind his own. Jonathan hadn't won that fight because he had the sharingan at his disposal. He won because he knew about Yamato. Because Jonathan had all the information on Yamato and how he fought, but Yamato knew nothing about Jonathan, Yamato would more than just lose. He was made Jonathan's plaything.
Had the fight dragged on any further, Jonathan speculated he'd last three maybe four more rounds till his chakra reserves completely depleted. This was because of the extra amount he forced into that last fireball technique. Jonathan knew doing something like that again would be costly, so he baited the inexperienced Yamato into kenjutsu.
The information gathered from Yamato was saliently valuable. And the way he collected it was by no means ordinary. All Root members had a seal, a binding technique, located on their tongue that prevented them from talking about Danzō Shimura and Root itself. What Jonathan understood about this seal was that the member could not physically talk about it. Because of illusions, Jonathan extracted that information completely different.
This is what made Jonathan the deadliest person in this world.
After discovering Root's location as well as understanding not only its members but their recent missions Danzō gave them, Jonathan was confident in knowing when the next event would likely occur.
His target wasn't Danzō Shimura, nor was it Orochimaru. As strong as Jonathan had grown, even he knew he was no match for shinobi of their caliber. Danzō had implanted sharingan in his right eye and in his arms. He was especially dangerous despite his age. While Orochimaru was regarded as a legendary fighter who partook in two ninja wars. His prestige was one thing, but it was his vast skill set that would be troubling.
Jonathan departed back the secret location he followed Yamato from. His hands in his pockets, he walked expressionless.
