Jonathan's information on his targets were what made him a true shinobi amongst those in his age group. He wasn't like Naruto Uzumaki who was oblivious of the nine-tail's power. Neither was he like Sasuke Uchiha who was manipulated to be blinded by hatred.
The moment Jonathan knew he was dealing with Santa Yamanaka, he wasted no time in placing him under an illusion. Santa, at this age, had already grasped the basics of his clan's techniques. As well as have stability in his own variations. While Shitō Akimichi had a flak jacket. This signified his rank as a shinobi was more than enough to have tons of information on his clan's techniques.
What Jonathan gathered today was immense. Heading straight to the training grounds, Jonathan began to practice something that would be highly important in days to come.
In case someone happened to come by the area when Jonathan wasn't around, he'd have more than just one location to train in. The Leaf was comprised of many secluded areas, forest and abandoned buildings Jonathan was free to practice at. Jonathan had even used some of those places during those five months of training when either needed more space or felt uneasy that someone was coming by. As such, Jonathan went to a secluded forest that no one stepped foot in. This was because there was hardly any space due to the trees. But this didn't bother Jonathan in the slightest. The harder things were for him, the more rewarding his results would be.
Jonathan sat by a tree and began focusing the chakra in his mind. From what Santa Yamanaka relayed to Jonathan, his clan's signature technique, the mind transfer technique, revolved around consciousness. Rather than focusing on the physical energy, which chakra is required of to perform things like ninjutsu, this solely relied on spiritual energy.
For a moment, Jonathan focused on his own consciousness. He performed the correct hand seal after activating the sharingan and tried to release it without a target in sight. Because there was no target, Jonathan's upper body became limp. He had literally lost his mind.
This is what Jonathan desired. He didn't want to just learn the technique, he needed to understand its core. More so, he needed something to help increase his spiritual energy due to how weak it was. Jonathan's body may have been physically here, but his very mind was missing. He was no more than a mindless individual at the moment. Where his mind was, even he couldn't say. He just knew he existed and was still capable of thought. Rather than panic, he concentrated. By the time he was made aware of the nearest living thing, he finally returned to his body after a whole hour. While in that state, Jonathan wasn't trying to return to his body at first. He was trying to discover the things around him.
This wasn't a means of trying to perfect a clan's simple technique that those with good chakra control could escape from. This was Jonathan trying to learn not only the technique itself but also how to sense chakra natures.
Sensing chakra was a complicated matter. One could not just develop it overnight. It was something gifted by special individuals with the right amount of talent for it. The Yamanaka clan had a unique technique to transfer their consciousness and transmit their (or someone else's) thoughts to others on a widescale. If Jonathan could grasp the basis of that technique, he could develop his own sensing ability. That or something similar to the Yamanaka's.
When Jonathan's mind became exhausted, he stopped his training. It was not hard to execute the mind transfer technique, but because he wasn't targeting anyone else's mind (like the jutsu requires), his mind would aimlessly get lost. At one point during his training, he had not returned for several hours.
After that risky training session, Jonathan would return to his home. For it had already been late at night. Just that one session was nowhere close to enough to help him learn sensing. Something like that would take months if not years for Jonathan to develop. Not even the mind transfer technique was ready to perform in battle. When Jonathan made it back, Teuchi was already cooking for his daughter.
"Welcome home, onii-chan!" Ayame greeted.
"Yes. Welcome home, son." Jonathan hadn't returned either of their greetings. Instead, for the first time, he sat down on the table and gave an order, "Teuchi, I need you to make several dishes tonight."
"You got it, son!"
"Yay! Onii-chan is eating with us tonight!"
Jonathan hadn't cared for either of their strange behaviour. What Jonathan needed was food. Not because he was hungry or anything but because of the calorie control method he extracted from the Akimichi clan.
Jonathan was someone who planned efficiently. The Akimichi clan's technique required the user to have an abundant number of calories in their system to help convert it into chakra. Because Teuchi owned a restaurant, he had sufficient amounts of resources to cook whatever Jonathan needed.
