Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Why She’s So Valuable

This was a heavily awaited moment for Jonathan. He had been preparing for it those last three months. The moment he exited Root's underground facility, he found the secret village exit. Not a moment too soon and he would have missed the direction Yamato ventured off to.

Keeping his movements well concealed, he trailed Yamato for several miles. Jonathan's movements and ability to suppress his chakra played a grand role in his tracking. Even if Yamato found him, Jonathan would have placed him under a sharingan genjutsu again and extract the location personally.

Just as Jonathan analyzed, Yamato stopped by a large tree with an open cavern. He quickly hid in a remote area and kept his chakra suppressed. If the story was following exactly as he had remembered, Kakashi Hatake would by chance find this area.

Where was Jonathan exactly?

He was somewhere deep within the side at one of Orochimaru's many hideouts. This hideout in particular housed a certain group of people. And these people were special. They had a unique kekkei genkai that Jonathan desired for himself.

If there's one thing Jonathan had, it was patience. He waited several moments in a concealed spot. With his eyes closed, he began to contemplate things.

'Their kekkei genkai never had a name. If I can succeed in acquiring that kekkei genkai, I'll be the only person in this world it.'

But Jonathan knew that he couldn't just gain the technique. He had to harness it for himself and make it permanent like with Hazuki's sharingan. The amount of cells Jonathan extracted from Hazuki Uchiha that night merged with his own. Thanks to Jonathan's efficiency in his medical techniques, these newly formed, combined cells were recognized by Jonathan's body. Had he not been compatible, however, Hazuki's eyes would have easily rejected Jonathan.

By the time Jonathan finished planning, he heard weapons clashing. Leaping to the direction where the sounds was coming from, he saw exactly what was supposed to happen.

Kakashi was fighting one of those people from inside the hideout. From what Jonathan recalled, that man's name was Gotta Iburi. The first time Kakashi fought him, he could have died. This was now their second encounter. Jonathan activated his sharingan and watched Kakashi intently. A few exchanges and Jonathan began analyzing not just Gotta's kekkei genkai, an ability that allowed him to transform into smoke, but also Kakashi's performance. He had unleashed the one thing Jonathan knew how to do but would take time to perfect: the chidori. Watching him perform that technique gave him more of a chance to learn it.

Their fight ended when the wind blew causing Gotta to lose his physical form. This was the downside to the Iburi clan's kekkei genkai. They were highly susceptible to the wind. If they ever made contact with the wind, their smokey bodies would disperse. And even if they weren't in their smoke from, they would still die after dispersion.

The only person who could combat against this weakness was a young child from their clan. Her name was Yukimi and she was who Jonathan had been waiting for.

One of Orochimaru's plans to escape the country was to use Yukimi's blood and temporarily transform himself into smoke to slip through the boarders. Thanks to Kakashi and Yamato, his plan failed in the original timeline. Jonathan witnessed Gotta fade away as the wind blew by. He felt no remorse. Since everything was going as scripted, Jonathan knew what would happen next. This part would be crucial. Jonathan furthered his distance from the scene. Because the next person to come to this area was none other than Orochimaru.

Jonathan didn't dare try making any mistakes at this point. Now further way, he began prepping the materials he brought from the Leaf. From his weapon's pouch, Jonathan took out an array of medical supplies. He had been storing this particular bag at Teuchi's house for months, awaiting the time to use it. Inside were scalpels, medical bags, syringes, needles, and even bandages. Jonathan, in his spare time, wasn't just training his techniques. He was also reading up on more advanced medical books. With the profit he'd been earning from the ramen shop, he had Teuchi purchase anything and everything he needed.

Jonathan's medical knowledge was only substandard on earth, but after spending more than a year here, his knowledge had become equivalent to that of a reputable resident at a renowned hospital.

One could say he was far above the level of Kabuto Yakushi in his prime by now. Had he had abilities to perform nature and shape manipulation, he could have surpassed Orochimaru.

A few moments had passed as Jonathan was finishing up his preparations. By the time he heard the earth rumbling, he knew it was the hideout collapsing. Orochimaru, Yamato and Kakashi had finished their little skirmish. Now was the time Jonathan had to act. He performed the transformation technique and ran towards the hideout. Just like Jonathan had believed, Kakashi, Yamato and Yukimi were already exiting the now destroyed hideout. Jonathan remembered what had likely happened while they were inside. Yukimi Iburi was to die but was saved by her fallen clansmen.

Jonathan trailed the three until they stopped by a three-way crossing. They exchanged heartfelt words which Jonathan knew was pointless. After this moment, Yukimi Iburi was never heard from again. Why? This was because she a filler character. She had no apparent role in the story itself.

This is why Jonathan deemed her so valuable!
