After reaching Minx’s hiding spot, he quickly climbed on her back with a impatient expression as he said: “Minx, go search for a weak magic beast for me to hunt.”
Minx let out a small growl and started running through the forest. Not even five minutes later, Minx stopped and let out a small whimper while decreasing her size so that Edward could get down. Edward, understanding that there must be a magic beast nearby, got down, feeling a bit excited, and started heading forward slowly.
After peeking into a small clearing right ahead of him, he spotted a small boar scratching his back against the trunk of a tree. Looking at the normal looking boar, he turned towards Minx and whispered: “Are you sure that’s a magic beast? It looks like a normal animal to me.”
*Whimper* *whimper*
“Okay, okay.” Taking a deep breath, Edward channeled his mana, forming what looked like a curved water blade above his hand. Looking at the still unaware boar, he waved his hand and threw the water blade. The blade swished through the air and before the boar even had the chance to react, it got split cleanly in two.
“YES!” exclaimed Edward as he quickly brought up his status board and checked his life force amount.
<Level life force: 1/100>
Seeing the unchanged life force, his excitement died down and he showed the tablet to Minx while saying: “Explain.”
*Whimper*
Minx whimpered and lowered her head slightly.
[Don’t blame the wolf if you’re an idiot and can’t even follow simple instructions. You need to use the tablet to absorb it’s life force.]
Fenrir’s words made Edward realize that he has indeed forgotten about that. With a sigh, he patted Minx’s head as an apology and quickly approached the two halves of the boar, ignoring the blood and gore, already used to such sights.
“How do I use the tablet?” he asked, realizing that he didn’t really know what to do with it.
[Try touching the boar’s dead body with the tablet.]
Edward did as he was told. The moment the tablet came into contact with one half of the boar’s body, it started slowly transforming into some form of energy that entered the tablet. Once the boar was completely gone, Edward checked his life force once more.
<Level life force: 2/100>
“Great. 98 more and I will level up.” With an excited exclamation, he climbed Minx’s back once more to look for other pray. The two of them spent the entire day using Minx’s trustful senses to look for other weak magical beasts roaming the forest and mountains before killing them.
After the world got dark with the arrival of the night, Edward made his tablet, that now had a whooping <Level life force: 52/100> written on it disappear, took down his clothes and laid down resting his head on Minx’s soft fur.
“Hey Fenrir, how long will it be until I can go back to Earth?” asked Edward without going to sleep and just looking at the unfamiliar but still beautiful night sky.
[I don’t know. What’s gotten into you? You never seemed that attached to Earth.]
“I’m not… I pretty much hated it there, but… sigh”
[The wolf is slowly getting stronger, but if I had to guess, I would say it would be a couple of years before we are able to leave this world and we won’t have any reason to go to Earth next…there’s no way to increase the wolf’s strength on that barren world.]
“I see…” replied Edward before closing his eyes. As he appeared inside his mind, he told Azure and Fenrir that he wanted to just rest today and closed his eyes once more.
As he opened his eyes in the morning of the next day, he was greeted by the sound of a pained whimper coming from the side. Turning his head around, he saw Minx laying on the ground with blood flowing out of one of it’s hind legs.
Startled, he quickly got up and went to check on the wolf.
“Fenrir, what happened?”
[They were attacked by quite a strong magic beast. They jumped of a cliff to escape it, but Minx ended up getting bit on one of her legs before she could jump. Don’t worry, she’ll be fine. A wolf’s regeneration speed is no joke.]
Edward nodded and used magic to clean the blood around the wound, but seeing that it won’t stop bleeding he quickly went to look for anything he could use to stop it.
Since he was in a forest at the base of a cliff, the best he could do was some decently large tree leaves which he tied tightly around the wound using some grass. The blood loss didn’t stop completely, but it was a lot better than before.
“Fenrir, is that beast nearby?” asked Edward, understanding that they couldn’t have run that far with Minx’s leg injured like this.
[North west, it’s territory is atop that cliff. If you plan on fighting it, I would suggest otherwise. It’s a flying magic beast that relies on it’s high agility to hunt pray from the sky. You’ve also never fought a flying enemy before.]
“It will be fine. If I can’t win, I’ll just retreat.” Replied Edward as he spent a few more minutes observing Minx’s wound. Seeing that the blood loss has stopped, he told the wolf to wait for him here and started looking for a way to get up that cliff while ignoring Fenrir’s words of protest.

After almost half an hour of looking around, he finally found a way up the cliff and went to see what that beast was about. Staying low and moving from bush to bush, he slowly approached the area Fenrir said they encountered it.
Once there, he stopped and looked around, but there was no sign of any magic beast. Taking a deep breath, he got out of the bush he was hiding in and moved forward once more.
He didn’t even manage to take a single step when a loud and anxious voice sounded from the bite mark on his right arm: “Watch out!”
Too bad that Edward’s reflexes were not really top notch. Instead of immediately dodging, he turned around only to see a human sized bird clawing one of his shoulders and throwing him spinning through the air. Edward’s body stopped flying when his back hit a large tree, but the bird didn’t plan on letting him have the time to breathe as it launched another attack.
Edward grunted and ignored his now dangling right arm as he, in a fit of panic, quickly summoned a water ball and threw it forward. The bird easily dodged the water ball, which was even slightly off target and pierced one of it’s sharp talons into his stomach before bringing his beak down trying to take a bite out of his head. Edward somehow managed to move his head away from the beak, but it still hit his other shoulder, making him unable to use any of his arms.
Just as he thought he was dead, he was surprised to see Minx appearing from the side and ramming it’s medium sized body into the bird.
Minx’s attack threw the bird a couple of meters away, but it also removed it’s talon from Edward’s belly, causing a spurt of blood to jet out, causing Edward to finally lose consciousness and pass out.
Minx didn’t waste any time and increased her size before grabbing Edward’s whole body into her mouth and running towards the cliff. Since one of her hind legs was not fully recovered yet, her speed was not that great and the bird kept slashing at her enormous body using her beak and talons.
Eventually, Minx finally made it to the cliff and jumped off. Since she was in such a sorry state, with her back covered in bite and slash marks with blood flowing freely, she was unable to maintain her balance and just rolled down the cliff, hitting every protruding rock and branch on the way down, making her situation even worse, but no matter what, she didn’t let her mouth open.
As she finally hit the bottom of the cliff with a thud, she opened her mouth at last to let out Edward, who was now in wolf form, but his wounds were still too heavy for him to even move.
As the two injured wolves were laying down at the bottom of the cliff, Edward was now inside his mind listening to Fenrir recount everything that was going on outside.
“They appear to have gotten away since the bird doesn’t want to leave the top of the cliff, but both your body and Minx are heavily injured. You will be fine since the wolf’s regenerative capabilities as quite good, but Minx might end up not making it. She’s still a low ranked magic beast and while her recovery speed is great, the amount of injuries on her body are still too many.”
Edward felt his chest tightening and asked: “How long until I can return to my body? I need to take her to the city and see if they can heal her.”
“You can only return once your body gets healed by the wolf and that might take a while.”
“Damn it!” cursed Edward before turning towards Azure who was silently observing the situation from the side and asking: “Azure, can’t water magic heal someone?”.
“It can’t. You can do simple stuff like stopping the blood loss, but not heal someone.”
“I don’t even know if she’ll still be alive when I take control of my body back…” muttered Edward with a defeated expression.
Fenrir looked like she wanted to say something but abstained and just waited together with Azure and Edward in silence. It took a total of eight hours until Edward woke up once more in the real world. As soon as he got control of his body, he quickly got up and moved to Minx’s side.
Minx was unconscious but still breathing, albeit very weekly. Seeing her back that appeared to have gone through a meat grinder and remembering all of it happened because she tried to save him, a deep sense of guilt, pain and loss overcame him.
“I can’t lose you too…” muttered Edward under his breath as he opened her mouth with trembling hands and used magic to slowly create some water before making her drink it.
That was the best he could do right now.
“You’re a strong girl, Minx. Please come back to me.” Edward kept muttering under his breath as he kept checking her condition. He’s grown quite attacked to this faithful wolf during the time they spend together ever since coming to this world and he couldn’t bear to lose her, especially since it was all his fault.
It seemed that fate also decided to have mercy on him, as by the end of the day, Minx’s breathing finally stabilized and her condition appearing to be heading for the better.
Edward forced himself awake, refusing to go to sleep and let the wolf take over until the morning of the next day when Minx’s ears twitched slightly and she slowly opened her eyes.
Seeing Edward there, looking at her with a worried expression, Minx tried to open her mouth but Edward stopped her and said: “Shh, I understand. Just rest. I’m sorry Minx.”. He felt like a heavy stone was lifted of his heart the moment she opened her eyes.
Minx also looked at him and didn’t let out a single sound for quite a while before closing her eyes to sleep once more.
[You should sleep as well, Ed.] said Fenrir in a soft tone.
“I can’t. What if that stupid wolf will leave her and she gets attack by something. I can’t.”
[It won’t. She’s still a member of his pack after all. You need your rest as well.]
Minx kept insisting, but Edward didn’t relent and spend one more day and night sitting by Minx side. On the morning of the next day, Edward looked no different than a zombie, being both hungry and tired , but to his surprise, Minx actually managed to slowly stand up. The scabbing that appeared over her wounds also showed signs of falling off.
“Good girl…” muttered Edward as he finally couldn’t hold on anymore and passed out.
