It took another half an hour of aimlessly drifting through the streets until Edward’s muddled mind regained some semblance of peace and he noticed his wandering footsteps led him straight to Ingvar’s doorstep.
Ingvar appeared in front of him before he could knock, as usual. With a stiff smile and a small bow, he said: “Welcome, Edward. Father is waiting for you in the dinning hall.”
Edward was a bit surprised hearing Edward’s overly polite tone and mannerism, but Ingvar turned and walked inside before he could voice any question. With no other choice, Edward could only follow right after him. Entering the dinning hall, he saw that both the guild leader and Kara were already sitting down at the table and seemed to be arguing about something.
Seeing Edward enter the hall, they both stopped arguing immediately. Kara got up from her seat, bowed towards Edward with a charming smile before sitting back down without saying anything.
Edward wondered if he somehow landed in another world as he stiffly bowed back, not wishing to give the guild master a bad impression.
The guild master motioned towards one of the seats and said with a laugh: “Come on Edward, don’t stand on ceremony and take a seat. We were waiting for you.”
Both Kara and Ignvar’s eyes twitched slightly at the guild master’s words, but everyone ignored it as Edward took his seat, “Thank you, guild master.”.
“Oh, just call me Faelyn. How are you, Edward?”
Edward gave Kara who was standing straight across from him a questioning look, feeling that something was very off here, but Kara just shook her head in reply.
Edward swallowed all the questions on his mind and said: “I’m good, sir. How about you?”
“I told you to call me Faelyn, and I’m good, thank you. How was your day? Did you…”
The four of them chatted casually for quite a while before eating the dinner. Edward felt completely awkward throughout the entire dinner, but played along with it after noticing that even Ingvar and Kara were not saying anything while feeling just as awkward as he was.
Once dinner was done and the last person placed their tableware down, Faelyn said: “Now that dinner is done, it’s time to talk.”, all his polite and kind old man facade falling off in an instant, replaced by a serious look.
Edward felt like he was being put on the spot and said: “What did you wish to speak to me about, Faelyn?”. He had no idea what this crazy old man had in mind, but what the old man said next came completely unexpected.
“Are you married, Edward?” asked Faelyn in his serious voice, catching Edward completely by surprise.
Edward just shook his head and waited for him to continue, not really knowing where this was going.
Faelyn smiled once more and said: “Then, how about you marry Kara here?”
The smile on Kara’s face froze and Edward’s jaw fell so low it almost hit the table. Ingvar was the only one not having a big reaction, probably having known about this beforehand.
Both Edward and Kara were stunned for a while before Kara erupted: “Father, what is the meaning of this? Me and Edward are barely friends and are too young to speak about marriage.”
Edward also nodded, but the old man didn’t seem to care as he said: “What’s the big deal? Where are you going to find someone with so much potential and an unique class to boot. Imagine the potential your children will have if both parents were owners of unique classes.”
Edward felt the old man must just be messing around. “Faelyn, I’m…”
“You’re out of your god damn mind.” Interrupted Kara as she stood up and ran off upstairs. Faelyn seemed to not take it to hearth and turned towards Edward: “She will come around, what do you say Edward? She’s quite the catch isn’t she?”
Edward had no words to dispute his claim, but marrying Kare never actually passed through his mind. Not willing to directly reject the old man, Edward said: “Sir, we’re still young and have a lot of time. I also want to focus on increasing my level and don’t have the time to take a wife….” As his words trailed off at the end, Edward turned to look at Ingvar for help, only to see him put on a helpless expression.
“There are a lot of married couples forming parties and venturing into dungeons together….”
The two of them kept bickering, the old man finding some way to use any excuse Edward bought against him. After half an hour of back and forth, Edward promised he will think about it, just to get the old man off his back.
Once he heard that, Faelyn put on a triumphant smile and stood up: “Then it’s settled. I’ll go finish some reports. I’m expecting good news soon.”
Then, to Edward’s stupor, he headed towards the stairs while whistling a happy tune.
Edward turned towards Ingvar as soon as the old man disappeared from sight and said: “Nice help there…”
“Well, good luck convincing that old man otherwise once he placed his mind on something. Didn’t you see that even my sister ran away?” replied Ingvar with a shrug of his shoulders.
Edward sighed and said: “Whatever. It’s not going to happen either way. Do you know if Kara found out the information we spoke about?”
Ingvar shrugged once more and pointed towards the stairs with his head: “Go and ask her yourself. She went out after you left in the afternoon but didn’t tell me if she actually managed to find anything out.”
Edward nodded and stood up, only then realizing he didn’t really know where Kara’s room was. As he turned around to ask Ingvar, Kara walked down the stairs and said: “He finally left.. Come Edward, let’s go.”
As her words ended, she turned around and started walking towards the exit. Edward sped up and reached up to her. After seeing that her expression was normal, he asked: “Did what your father said not bother you?”
Kara made the same hopeless expression as her brother and said: “I learned a long time ago that it’s pointless to argue with him whenever an dumb idea comes to his mind. It’s better to ignore him.”
Edward nodded and asked with a serious expression: “Did you find out who did it? The attack on the Violet Flower inn?”
Kara nodded and said: “I did. It was indeed some low level thugs belonging to the Swarm. I looked into them and they seem to have gotten drunk on power, making it a habit out of torturing people who are late with their protection payments. That ones that tortured your friend were three in number and are barely level 2.”
“Perfect.” Said Edward with a cold look on his face, already imagining how he’s going to torture them to death.
Kara could guess what he was thinking and said: “Calm down. Even if they are not that strong, getting to them is not going to be easy.”
“Why is that?”

“Their group usually spends the nights in the pleasure district, in some brothel owned by the Swarm. We won’t be able to attack them inside the brothel, there being to many guards for protection, so we’ll have to wait for them to come out.”
Edward nodded, not minding waiting the whole night if it meant he would get his hands on the thugs.
The two of them made their way towards the pleasure district, paid the entry tax and started heading towards the Swarm’s brothel. As they walked through the streets of the pleasure district, Kara exclaimed: “What a disgusting place…”
Edward nodded in agreement, the image of that little slave girl appearing in his mind. Once they reached a five story place with a large plaque at the entrance: <Dungeon of Delight>, Kara said: “This is the place.”
Edward looked at the name of the brothel and raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment about it and asked Kara: “So, do we just wait here until they come out? Do you know how they look?”
Kara nodded and rested with her back against a lamp pillar in the street as she said: “I have a description so I should be able to easily recognize them.”
Edward nodded and murmured: “Let’s hope the bastards don’t waste our entire night…”
After spending a minute in silence, Edward found the atmosphere quite awkward and said: “Thanks for the help, Kara.”.
Kara nodded with her eyes fixed on the brothel’s entrance and said: “I’m not doing it for you. I already found out what the beasts did inside that inn and much more. They deserve their fate.”
“It still means a lot to me, no matter the reason you did it.” Said Edward in a honest tone.
Kara didn’t say anything in reply for a while before eventually asking: “I’m curious, what is your relationship with that innkeeper? Is she your girlfriend or something?”
Edward sighed at her question and said: “I don’t know what our relationship is anymore. We used to get along well with each other, and to say I didn’t like her would be a lie, but now, I don’t really know where we stand…”
Hearing Edward’s downcast tone, Kara turned to look at him and asked: “Did something happen? Is it because of the Swarm?”
“Well, yes and no… it started because of them, but I was the one to fuck it up in the end.”
Kara got curious and gave him an inquisitive look, prompting Edward to say with a sigh: “I lost control of myself in my anger and turned in front of her….”
Kara’s expression changed: “Did you attack her?”
Edward shook his head and said: “No, no, God no. I just activated my wolf form in my rage, same way I did when Echo was injured by the lizards….”
“And what happened next?”
“What do you think? She was terrified… I turned back immediately and tried to explain it to her, but she was in shock and… let’s just say it didn’t go so well. In the end I could do nothing but apologize and leave… sigh..”
“I see… it took me a while to get used to it and she’s just a simple girl…” said Kara with a sigh as well.
“Do you think she will forgive me? Would you?”
Kara pondered for a moment and said: “I don’t know… You can…”
Kara’s words were interrupted as she was approached by a drunken middle-aged man that was moving wobbly towards her: “Hey hottie? How much for a round?”
Kara’s face turned completely black as she heard the man’s words, but Edward quickly said to stop her from killing the idiot: “She’s taken buddy. Back off.”
“Fuck it.” Swore the old man as he turned around and kept mumbling as he walked away: “Those long legs would have looked so good around my shoulders…”
Hearing the drunkard’s words as he walked away, Kara moved her hand to her back to grab for her bow, only to be stopped by Edward: “Please don’t forget why we’re here. If we cause a commotion we might scare those guys away.”
Kara snorted and stopped reaching for her bow, crossing her arms under her average sized chest with an angry look on her face.
Edward made a helpless expression and asked: “What were you saying before?”
“Fix your problem by yourself.” replied Kara angrily and refused to continue talking to Edward.
‘What did I do wrong now?’ Edward asked himself as he also turned his eyes on the brothel’s entrance.
They stayed and waited in silence for around half an hour when they noticed a drunken man walking out of the inn, barely managing to keep himself on his feet.
“That should be one of them.” Said Kara as she turned towards Edward and asked: “How do we do this? I didn’t expect them to leave separately.”
Edward pondered for a moment as he fixed his bloodthirsty eyes on the man and said: “You stay here and keep watch over the place while I take care of this one. If any other one gets out, try to keep him in place for a while.”
“Ha? How am I supposed to do that?” asked Kara with a questioning look, prompting Edward to fix his eyes on the lower parts of her body.
Kara realized what he meant and her face turned black once more as she looked at Edward like a cat looking at a mice. Edward noticed that the man was leaving and wasn’t in the mood to argue as he said: “Do whatever you want. I’m going to follow him and wait for my chance to take action.”, before walking away.
Kara looked at Edward’s leaving back and said under her breath: “Bastard…”, before fixing her eyes on the brothel once more.
Edward continued following the man out of the pleasure district and, after half an hour or so, saw him walking the a dark empty alleyway.
“My chance is finally here…” murmured Edward as his body started showing signs of turning.
