“Haha..One more week and that little girl would have probably turned the city upside down looking for you.” Ingvar’s voice entered Edward’s ears as soon as he arrived in front of the door.
Already used to Ingvar’s habit of appearing at the door before he even got the chance to knock, Edward replied: “I heard she caused you some trouble as well. Sorry about that.”
“Not a big deal. Let’s speak more inside over a cup of tea.”
Ingvar led Edward towards the dinning room where they both took a seat. Two tea cups were already placed on the table from before, making Edward wonder if Ingvar had some sort of clairvoyance abilities.
“So, what happened to you after the beast tide? There were quite a few adventurers taking on quests to look for you but none managed to find a single clue.”
“Nothing major. I just hid and waited for the chaos of the beast tide to die down.” Edward knew it was a lousy excuse, but just hoped Ingvar wouldn’t ask anymore even if he suspected Edward was avoiding the subject.
“As long as you’re alright… by the way, did you spot any trace of master while you were there?”
“Eddena? Has something happened to her?” Edward has asked Flastrdra about it, but since the dragon couldn’t speak, all he managed to find out was that she was alive and injured, nothing more about how he escaped the big explosion or where she was now.
“She’s been missing as well ever since the beast tide started. Your master also left the city to look after the two of you, but there were no news from her either.”
‘Weird. Where could Eddena be hiding and from what? Did Flastrdra scare her so hard?’
“Does that mean Circe is not in the city either? I guess I won’t be visiting her after I leave here.”
“No. She’s been searching the southern woods ever since you two went missing and we haven’t heard anything from her since then. She probably won’t return until she finds master.”
Edward would have liked to search for Eddena as well, but one more person searching wouldn’t really make a difference and he needed to start leveling up as soon as possible. Thinking up to here, Edward asked: “By the way, I need to resume leveling and I was wondering if you guys want to come. If you want to help with Eddena’s search, I can put a request with the guild and find another party to…”
“There’s no need. Kara and Echo are also quite eager to head into the dungeon again. Now that you are here, we can finally start leveling once more.” Ingvar seemed quite indifferent to his master’s disappearance, which surprised Edward slightly. Since it was not his habit to stick his nose in other people’s problems, Edward didn’t pry further.
“Good. Oh, I just remembered, I know a cleric that is looking for a party and I agreed to ask you if it was alright for her to join us as well.”
“What is her name? Maybe I know her. I’ve met with quite a few clerics while looking for one to add to the party.”
“Mya Greer.”
“Oh, that kid of the Greer family. Isn’t she quite low level?”
“She was level two the last time we spoke, but we can just slowly head towards the lower floors and let her absorb life force on the way. Since she only has a single class, it would not take too much time anyway.”
Seeing that Ingvar was hesitating but didn’t reject immediately, Edward added: “Can you accept her as favor to me? She’s a good friend and I kind of owe her my life.”
Ingvar sighed before saying: “I’ll have to ask the others first…”
“No need. Take the girl with us.” Kara’s voice sounded from behind Edward’s seat as she started coming down the stairs from the upper floor.
Edward turned around and nodded towards Kara before saying: “Long time no see, Kara.”
Kara gave Edward a perfunctory smile before saying to Ingvar: “Since she’s Edward’s friend, it will be fine. I’ll also convince Echo if she has any problem with the idea.”
Put on the spot by Kara, Ingvar could only relent and agree as well. Having completed his objective into coming here, Edward stood up and said: “Now that everything’s set, I’ll take my leave. I want to go speak to Mya before resting for a while. I haven’t sleep in what feels like a week.”
Ingvar nodded and stood up to lead Edward towards the exit. On the way, he asked: “Do you think she would be ready for us to leave tomorrow? I want to know for when to set everything up.”
“I promised Violet I’ll spend tomorrow with her. Can we leave it for the day after tomorrow at daybreak?”
“That’s fine as well, but make some time tomorrow to let me know what you’ve set up with Mya as well. Maybe she won’t be available or something.”
Edward nodded and said goodbye to Ingvar before heading towards the church to speak to Mya as well.
Kara came from inside and stood next to Ingvar as they both watched Edward disappear into the crowded streets.
“Are you sure it’s alright to have that Greer girl with us? If she finds out about Edward’s condition…” asked Ingvar without looking back.
“Since Edward trusts her I will as well, but if she shows any sign of telling that father of hers about it…” Kara let her words trail of at the end, her intention clear from the sharp tone in her voice.
“And what about you? Are you alright with her joining the party?”
“I’ll be fine. Go and let Echo know of out plans. I’m heading upstairs to make some arrangements.”
Edward didn’t have to walk long and was soon in front of the church’s gate. As he tried to step inside, two city guards blocked his path and said: “The church is closed today. Come back another time.”
Edward ignored the guards’ rude tone and just bowed as he said: “I’m just here to look for someone. Mya Greer?”
“No one is here besides the high level members of the church and some important guests from outside of city. Miss Greer is probably at her residence right now.”

“Can you please tell me where her residence is located? I’ve always met with her here or at the adventurer guild.”
“Ask about the Greer family in the noble quarter and someone will probably point you in the right direction.”
Edward nodded and returned to the residential district of the city. After arriving in the noble quarter, easily identifiable by the increased size of the houses there, he asked a few people on the way and arrived in front of a huge mansion. It was quite large even when compared with the other houses in the noble quarter. He was quite surprised, not expecting her to be from such a well off family, but walked forward and knocked on the door nonetheless. He wanted to finish everything he had planned quickly and head back.
A relatively young woman opened the door and bowed politely towards Edward before saying: “Welcome to the Greer residence, young lord. Anything I can help you with?”
Edward was about to answer when he felt the mark on his arm starting to heat up. Knowing this was Fenrir’s way of warning him about something, Edward looked closely at the maid in front of him one more time but couldn’t find anything suspicious.
Keeping Fenrir’s warning in mind, he bowed back and said: “Please pardon the intrusion. Is miss Mya Greer at home?”
“Yes, she is. Can I ask who is looking for her?”
“A friend. Edward Black.”
“Follow me into the guest room where you can wait while I go inform Miss Greer about your visit.” Said the maid as she turned around and started walking deeper inside the mansion.
Edward followed after her and soon arrived at a spacious looking guest room. Motioning for Edward to take a seat on the couch, the maid bowed once more and started heading even deeper inside the manor.
Being left alone, Edward asked softly: “Anything wrong?”
The question was obviously addressed to Fenrir, but the only answer he got was his mark heating up once again. Frowning slightly, Edward understood Fenrir must have a reason for not speaking and decided to just wait in silence for Mya to arrive.
Around five minutes later, Mya accompanied by the same maid walked inside the guest room. Seeing that it was indeed Edward, Mya turned towards the maid and said: “Thank you for letting me know, Ashe. You can return to your work.”
The maid bowed and left the guest room. After being left alone with Edward, Mya broke into a forced smile and took a seat in front of Edward.
Edward smiled back and looked around the room before saying: “Hi Mya. I had no idea your family was so rich.”
The smile on Mya’s face stiffened for a moment before returning to normal. She then completely ignored Edward’s remark as she asked: “How are you, Edward?”
Edward, of course, noticed her brief change of expression and didn’t press the subject as he said: “I’m alright. Sorry I didn’t have time to visit for so long. I’ve been a little busy lately. What about you? Are you alright?”
“I’m doing fine. Thank you for asking. Why did you come here?”
“I passed by the church but they told me you are at home. After asking around, I found out where you live and came here. Did I bother you?” noticing that Mya was slightly uncomfortable and was speaking in a formal manner, which was quite unusual for her, Edward decided to play along. There were too many strange things happening ever since he arrived at her house.
“Oh, is there something you need from me?”
Edward nodded and said: “I’ve spoken with the others and they agreed for you to join us. I know it’s a bit late, but do are you still interested?”
“Of course. Are we leaving soon?” replied Mya in an indifferent tone, same forced smile plastered on her face.
“Hmm, how about in the morning of the day after tomorrow? Is that alright with you?”
“Mhm. I’ll be ready by then.”
After Mya’s reply, the two fell into an awkward silence. Finding the situation quite strange, Edward decided to ask Mya about it the next time they met and sat up: “Good. That’s settled then. I’ll come pick you up the day after tomorrow.”
“No need. I’ll just meet you in front of the adventurer guild at daybreak.”
Edward nodded and started heading towards the exit with Mya accompanying him. Once they reached the door, the two said their goodbyes and Edward started walking towards the forest outside the city.
Once he exited the city gate, Fenrir finally spoke: [Try not to go near that place again.]
“What happened?” asked Edward, finding both Mya and Fenrir’s behavior quite strange.
[That maid, the aura of death on her was even stronger than the one I felt on Eddena and both those assassins that attacked you. There were also people hidden all over the place, all of them carrying some sort of death aura. If I had to guess, I would say you just walked out of the assassin guild or something similar.]
“That is even stranger. How would Mya, a cleric of the church, live in a house full of assassins?”
[I don’t know, but I really think you should avoid ever going back there. From what I could see, even the girl seemed uncomfortable. As a member of the church, she should also be sensible towards the aura of death…]
“I guess I can only wait to ask her the next time we meet. Let’s hope I didn’t bring her any trouble by going there.”
As he was speaking with Fenrir, Edward finally arrived at the place Minx was waiting for him. Removing all his clothes before laying down his head on Minx’s soft fur, Edward started practicing magic to consume the mana he had left as was his habit before letting the wolf take over.
Once his mana reached close to zero, he finally closed his eyes and went to sleep. It was still quite early, just an hour or two after noon, but he was completely exhausted by now.
Early morning of the next day, Edward spend some time until sunrise just talking with Minx before getting dressed and heading into the city, destination, Violet Flower Inn.
