“Fenrir, how did you know my shapeshifter class would mix? Also, are these skills only active in my wolf form?” Asked Edward once he undid his skill.
He could feel a sharp increase in his senses, which went away as soon as he canceled his wolf form.
[Because the tablet was still glowing, I figured it must be something else. I don’t know about those skills, try turning.]
Edward nodded and changed his form. In his wolf form, a sudden dizziness hit him and he felt he was about to throw up. Even with his eyes closed, just the sound of the sap flowing through the root underneath felt like it would break his eardrums.
It took him quite a while until he got used to it enough to open his eyes again.
‘Amazing…’ was the first thought that entered his mind. His vision traveled very far and he could see a lot clearer than before. Since the room was not that big, he would have to wait until he got outside to test more.
Taking one step forward, he was once again stunned. Even with his increased hearing, he didn’t hear a single sound from the root underneath his feet. As he walked slowly, he focused on all the sounds around. His body was not releasing any sort of sound, but he could hear the heartbeat and breathing of the guild leader behind the door.
Turning back to a human, a wide grin appeared on his face. “This feels so strong.”
[Don’t get over yourself. You’re still level 20. That monster behind the door could kill you by breathing on you.]
“Why must you be like this? Let me enjoy this feeling for a bit.” Said Edward back, feeling that Fenrir was too much of a party pooper.
Fenrir fell silent and Edward got ready to leave the room. Looking down at his exposed upper body and already cracked pants, he smiled wryly and picked up the trash before walking out.
The guild leader gave Edward a weird look, prompting him to explain: “My shapeshifter class mixed, so I had to turn…”
“Haha, good boy. Let’s go up. Probably the others are quite pissed with having to wait for so long.”
“How long have I been inside?” asked Edward after he started following the leader.
“Hmm… eight hours?”
Edward smiled wryly and could already imagine Violet’s reaction when he returned. After reaching upstairs, the other branch representatives besides Rave took their tokens and said their congratulations before leaving.
Edward didn’t care about Rave and said his goodbyes to the leader before walking away with Circe.
“Did your unique mix?” asked Circe while extending one hand.
“How did you know?” asked Edward back while giving her his tablet.
“Well, either that or you enjoy walking around naked, which, considering you came to my tower together with that fox…”
Edward didn’t reply, and Circe continued looking over Edward’s status. When she reached the skills list, she frowned and said: “I understand your unique class mixed into an assassin type, but how did you unlock four master assassin skills?”
“Master assassin?”
“Beginner assassins have ‘still heart’, ‘light step’, ‘dash’ and ‘enhanced senses’. Yours are already at the… oh, I get it. Nightshifter is a rank-less unique. Hehe, Ena would for sure snatch you away if she saw this.”
“I already tested them, but they all only work in my wolf form, which’s cost has also increased.”
“Makes sense. Your wolf’s level of endurance might tolerate the toll these skills put on your body. Turn. I want to see it.”
“Now?” asked Edward as he looked around, they were even some magicians around.
“Everyone who matters already knows. Just turn.”
Edward turned as she said and directly threw up. The number of sounds and smells all around hit him at once, making him barely able to resist passing out.
“Turn back. You need to get used to it.”, said Circe immediately, realizing what had just happened.
Edward turned back and used a water ball to clean his face. “Damn, it’s horrible.”
“You’ll get used to it, but did you notice you didn’t make a single sound even when throwing up? That is the effect of the deadly stillness skill, which is a default skill of the master assassin class. It keeps any sound your body makes inside, making you completely silent.”
“Shadow steps would block the sound that you would emanate as you come in direct contact with the terrain. A default master assassin skill as well.”
“As for perfect sense, I imagine it’s the result of Ena’s training, which your class upgraded to the extreme.”
As Circe was explaining, they reached her tower and found Violet waiting there with her back laying against the door.
Once she saw the state of Edward’s clothes, she quickly rushed to him and asked in worry: “Are you alright?”
Edward nodded and rubbed her head as he said: “I’m fine, don’t worry. My clothes got destroyed as I turned into a wolf. Sorry for making you wait so long.”
Violet nodded and said nothing more. After a few cautionary words, Circe excused herself and went inside her tower.
Since his clothes were now ruined, Edward walked with Violet back to her inn while answering her questions about the test. Once he got changed and they ate dinner, they went back to the forest to check on Minx.
Edward was rubbing Minx’s head as he said: “Violet, I want to practice my new skills a little. Do you mind waiting here with Minx?”
Seeing Violet agree, Edward quickly undressed, causing Violet to blush at the scene. He then closed his eyes and activated his wolf form.
After getting used to the sounds and spells, he opened his eyes again and found both Minx and Violet looking at his wolf form with worry.
Tilting his head to the side, he tried to release a questioning whimper, only to notice that no sound came out of his mouth either.
“Are you alright? Your heart is not beating…” asked Violet, to which Minx nodded as well.
‘Were these two always able to hear my heartbeat?’ wondered Edward as he nodded towards them.
After he pacified the two wolves, he turned around and rushed into the depths of the forest. As his speed increased, he slowly worked on tuning out all the surrounding sounds. He ran for an entire hour until he finally got comfortable with his enhanced senses.
‘Time to check its combat capabilities.’ Thought Edward as he listened carefully. Hearing a soft breathing sound over one mile north, he went straight in that direction.

He rushed towards a sleeping bear, ready to attack it, but stopped right before his claw was about to hit its head.
‘Damn it really does not know…’ Finding it funny, he started running around the bear, but there was still no reaction. The bear was sleeping without a care in the world.
Sparing the poor bear, he went to look for other prey. For the next hour, Edward silently killed most low-level beasts in the surrounding area. He even used his shadow dash a few times to get used to it.
With his stamina reaching the triple digits, he started rushing back toward Minx and Violet, but as he got close to their camp, he slowed his steps.
“I don’t know Minx. Are you sure you’ll get a human form?”
“Yes. I’ve felt it once before. Something happened once before that made my soul leave my body. My soul had a human form. And that fox also said I will.”
“You can only ask him then. I really can’t tell you more.”
“But you wouldn’t mind, would you?”
“Of course not.”
Feeling it was rude to eavesdrop anymore, he turned back into a human and walked the rest of the way. Hearing Edward approach, the two stopped chatting and looked in his direction.
“How was it?” asked Violet.
“It was amazing.” Said Edward with a wide grin, “What are you two doing?”
“Nothing, just some girl talk.” Said Violet with a giggle, but Minx didn’t reply at all.
Edward started getting dressed and didn’t ask more about it. After cuddling together in Minx’s fur, the two girls went to sleep and Edward started checking on his water magic over the night.
Just from the start, he discovered he could control the form of his water ball freely. It was so natural that felt like he was using another arm. He could even turn it into an ice ball, which he found even more amazing to him.
He spent the entire night going through most of his spells and getting used to them again. Azure was right. They all felt a lot stronger now, but he had to face someone of his level to see exactly how much stronger they were.
In the morning, once the girls woke up, Edward took Violet to the adventurer guild to check on her affinities, but what he found left him stumped.
<Fighter Classes: 0>
<Magician Classes: 0>
<Rogue Classes: 0>
<Cleric Classes: 0>
<Ranger Classes: 0>
<Unknown: 1>
This showed there was a type of energy she had an affinity for, but he didn’t even know where to start to figure out what that was. With a sigh, they said goodbye to Lara and walked out of the guild.
“Don’t worry, I already knew I had no affinity.”, said Violet when she saw the frown on Edward’s face.
“That’s not it. You have an affinity for something. It’s just the guild doesn’t know what it is.”
“You mean the unknown thing? Father said that it depends on luck if I can activate it, but since it hasn’t happened until now…”
“Luck huh…” pondered Edward. If she had any other affinity, he could try filling her class slots to activate it forcefully as he did with his, but this was not an option for her.
Since he couldn’t come up with any idea, he left it for later to discuss it with Fenrir and started walking towards the beast tamers guild. He was in no mood to deal with that crazy fox, but he promised Minx he would do all he can to get her permit.
Once he stepped inside the beast tamers guild and saw that it was just Naomi’s brother there, he heaved a sigh of relief and approached his desk. Even his cat was missing, which was a great plus.
“Hi, Edward. And this is…?” said the young man as he stood up and bowed slightly towards Edward and Violet.
“Hello, I’m Violet. Nice to meet you.” Replied Violet with a small bow of her own.
“I’m Rowen. The pleasure is all mine. How can I help you two?”
Edward was quite happy this interaction allowed him to find the young man’s name as he said: “Same things as last time. I want to get a permit for my wolf.”
Rowen nodded and pointed towards the chairs in front of him before sitting back down himself and saying: “Did you arrange something with the city lord?”
“Not really, but I have someone who might set it up. I want to try it anyway.”
“You know you won’t be getting your coins back if it fails, don’t you?”
“No problem.” Replied Edward as he put the coins on the desk.
Rowen took the coins and pulled some papers from under the desk before pushing them toward Edward.
Edward took a look and was stumped. It asked about the beast’s rank, race, and so on. Looking towards Rowen, he said awkwardly: “I don’t know the answer to most of these questions. Do you mind taking a look at her yourself? You have a lot more knowledge about magic beasts.”
Rowen chuckled and nodded: “No problem, but you will have to way until Naomi comes back. I can’t leave the guild empty. She just went to buy some things from the market and should return in about an hour.”
Edward pondered for a moment before saying: “Can you come to the forest south of the city? If you go straight south from the city gate, you’ll find us.” It was not that he minded waiting here, he didn’t feel like stumbling upon that fox again.
Rowen agreed, and Edward left together with Violet. After grabbing something to eat again, they also went to where he left Minx.
It was about an hour later, as Edward and Violet were chatting casually, that a small fox appeared between them.
“Of course, you had to come as well…”
