Sitting on a tall cliff in his wolf form, Edward took in the scenery at the base of the mountain. The sky darkened until he finally crossed over the mountaintop.
There didn’t seem to be as much trouble as he expected in the dragon camp, but it did not discourage him. Once he turned into his human form, Fenrir spoke.
[They must have sent someone else to create another link with the kingdom. I can feel a new one extending from the camp to their kingdom.]
“That’s fine.” Said Edward with a smile as he looked at the position of the dragon camp, an idea slowly taking place inside his head.
Turning into his wolf form, he ran back up the mountain all the way to the edge of the volcano crater, where he turned back into a human. Looking at the bubbling lava below, Edward asked: “Can I swim inside that?”
[Azure said you should be able to protect yourself using your mana, but the further down you get, the more mana you’ll end up using, so you must be careful.]
“Can I reach the seal on the tunnel and back?”
[With over two-thirds of your mana left to spare. The lava level is not that high.]
“Perfect.”
Edward then asked for directions to the tunnel before diving into the hot mana with his wolf body protected by a layer of water. The tunnel was not that far from the surface of the lava, as Fenrir said, so he easily made it inside.
After swimming through half of the tunnel, he noticed that, because of its upward slope, there was no lava from there on. Walking the rest of the way, he was disappointed to not find a single trace of Flastrdra’s body.
Figuring the lava has burnt it until there was nothing left, Edward started clawing at the sides of the tunnel, slowly chipping away at the rock on which the seal was carved. Once he saw the seal blinking like it was about to fall apart, Seth stopped destroying the rocks and rushed back inside the volcano.
After heading in deep into the lava, he released most of his water mana. As the water evaporated and the lava started getting agitated, he rushed out of it and clawed his way out of the volcano by climbing the crater’s edge.
Once outside, he ignored the sounds and gases coming from the volcano beneath and fixed his eyes on the dragon camp.
A jet of lava rushed out of the mountain and started raining fire upon the dragon camp. Dragon after dragon transformed inside the camp and started using all sorts of spells to stop the lava.
[You know that probably none of them died to that, don’t you?] said Fenrir once Edward turned back.
“Of course, but they are definitively annoyed. Their troops keep dying, their camp is destroyed, and they even lost connection to their kingdom once. I wonder how long can they take it.”
Fenrir sighed and said nothing else as Edward returned to check on Kali. When he arrived at the cave, he found the dragon munching on a wild wolf without a care in the world. There were different wolf carcasses also littering the cave’s grounds.
Edward’s eyebrow twitched at the sight and he asked: “Didn’t you find any other beast to feed on other than wolves?”
The dragon swallowed the wolf in his mouth and shook his head, causing Edward to just sigh and sit down on a clean part of the floor. He barely had any stamina left and his mana was completely drained, so he needed to recover for now.
Edward made that cave his home for the next two months, during which he kept pestering the dragons continuously, taking every opportunity to annoy them or even kill a few dragons here and there. He even let a few ice boulders roll down the mountain as they were trying to remake their camp.
The dragons no longer even dared to sleep in their humanoid forms, resting deep in the mountains in their dragon bodies. This didn’t prove wise either as Edward just let the wolf out one night, it killing over 50 dragons before they realized something was wrong.
Whatever measure the dragons took, Edward found a way to continue messing with them. In their tries to capture Edward, they even annoyed most of the residents of the city. This ended up with their entrance into the city getting restricted and the posters with Edward’s face being taken down as well.
The deal with the city lord falling apart pushed the dragons over the edge and, two months later, they packed their bags and flew back to their kingdom. They lost the humans’ support, and they had no way of dealing with their enemy’s stealth abilities. Staying there only added more losses to their numbers.
Edward was sitting on top of a tree, watching the dragons flying north as he muttered: “I wonder if you’ll be able to afford to kill your newborn children after I’m done with you.”
[What now? Are you heading south? The girls should have also succeeded by now in case nothing went wrong.]
Edward chuckled and shook his head: “Well, they made so much trouble in my home, how could I not make the same in theirs? I also need to see if I can get Circe out of there. She has done so much for me that I can't just leave her to remain a hostage to those lizards. I’m sure Violet and Minx are just fine. Few people can deal with Minx right now.”
[Going in there is too dangerous. We don’t know what the limit of their strength is.]
“Indeed, but I still have to do it. First, I’m going to need to promote. While I can kill them if I take them by surprise in their human form, I doubt they will not use their dragon ones inside their kingdom. I need the ability to hurt them even in their dragon form.” Replied Edward as he summoned his status tablet again.
He was now level 55 and all his classes were ready for a promotion. Heaving a long sigh, he had Kali fly him toward the city once all the dragons were gone. It was time to take some risks.
In the forests outside the city, he waited for the sky to darken before sneaking back inside. He made his way through the streets of the city until he reached the tallest tower in the magician guild.
Turning back to a human, he covered his lower body using a screen of water and knocked on the tower’s entrance.
The door opened two minutes later and the guild leader looked at Edward with a frown.
“Give me one reason I shouldn’t kill you right here and now.”

“Because I want to save Circe, but for that, I need to promote.” Replied Edward with a serious expression, but his back was already drenched in a cold sweat. Even at level 55, this man felt like a mountain he could never hope to surpass.
With the heat coming from his arm, Fenrir also confirmed that he was still no match for this old man in front of him.
“That’s the best joke I’ve heard in a long time. Not even I would dare to say I can walk into that dungeon and back out in one piece. What makes you think you can do it?”
Edward summoned his tablet and showed it to the leader: “I don’t plan on charging in, but I’m sure I can sneak around those lizards. Once I confirm Circe’s situation, I’ll see if I can get her out. Who do you think sent them all back home?”
The guild leader looked at the status tablet before sighing and moving to the side to let Edward walk in.
Edward raised an eyebrow and didn’t take a single step in. Outside, he still had a chance to run, but once he got in…
Seeing Edward’s hesitation, the guild master took a note from the pocket of his robe and threw it to him.
Edward picked up the note and unfolded it.
‘Old man, once that useless disciple of mine returns to the city, let him promote. Also, he might bring a dragon with him; allow them to summon a spirit for it as well. Don’t stir the dragon nest for me. You know I’ll be fine.’
“She handed me that note before the dragons took her away.” Said the old man with a sigh and Edward finally stepped inside.
Edward frowned as he looked once more at the note and asked: “What does she mean by ‘you know I’ll be fine.’?”
“She didn’t tell you?” asked the guild leader with a raised eyebrow.
Seeing Edward shake his head, he continued: “Then she must have her reasons. You can ask her yourself when you see her again.”
Edward nodded and asked: “Why are you doing this? You must know by now about the prophecy.”
“I know, but Circe’s father was my best friend and saved my life more times than I could count when I was just a young mage. How could I betray her trust for a prophecy that no one can confirm came from the mother tree? No matter that, I can help you promote, but I still don’t think you should head there. Circe will be fine there even if you take more time increasing your strength.”
Edward nodded and said: “I still have to check the place out. What about my dragon? I left it outside the city in the forest.”
“Hmm, I’ll have to gather the other tokens to open the gate to the roots. I have Circe’s and Rave’s here, but I still need the other two to open the seal. Bring it here while I take care of that.”
“Won’t that create more trouble? I’m still a wanted criminal. Not to mention that bringing a full-blown dragon inside the city…”
“Fly high and only land on top of my tower. I’ll let you in from the roof. This way, most people won’t notice and I’ll just tell the others it’s a dragon messenger from their kingdom.”
Edward nodded and went to pick up Kali before flying on top of the leader’s magic tower. The guild leader was already there and threw the tokens to Edward: “You already know what to do. I’ll take care of checking the dragon’s affinities and summoning his spirit. We need to hurry before we raise too much suspicion. Your promotion to master level mage will also take a lot since you will have to skip the advanced mage class.”
Edward nodded and told Kali to listen to the old man before rushing down the circular stairs of the tower. Once he reached the roots room where he was promoted the last time, he opened the sealed door using the tokens and went straight to the indentation in the middle where he placed the tablet.
The room was once more flooded with water, but this time the pressure was too much for him to take.
Feeling his body was about to burst from the pure pressure, Edward had no choice but to take his wolf form to resist it. His wolf form fared better, but his body was still slowly getting crushed by the pressure. He could feel water seeping slowly through the pores of his skin. Edward didn’t know what was going on, but he couldn’t turn back to his human form and ask Fenrir about it since he was sure the pressure would pulverize him in an instant if he did that.
Doing his best not to pass out from the pain of his body getting crushed, Edward held on for what felt like an eternity.
Eventually, once his pain passed, he changed into his human form and threw up directly on the roots beneath.
Wincing in pain, Edward stood up and asked: “Fenrir, how long did the promotion take?”
[Twenty-seven hours. You went through four promotions at the same time. That’s the reason for the horrible pain you had to go through. That and integrating water mana into your body for the master mage class.]
Edward didn’t even check his tablet as he transported it inside his soul and rushed out. He found the guild leader sitting in the examination room, sipping on a cup of tea.
Seeing Edward finally walk out, the guild leader smiled and said: “Congratulations on your promotion. I sent your dragon away after it summoned an elemental spirit and told it to hide in the forest. You should hurry before others spot it and more trouble arises. ”
Edward nodded and threw the tokens back to the leader before saying: “I already lost too much time here, anyway. Thank you so much for your help.”
The guild leader caught the tokens and nodded toward Edward while watching him rush towards the exit.
Once Edward was gone, the smile disappeared from his face and he grunted in pain while falling to his knees, a trace of blood flowing out of the corner of his lips.
