Chapter 108: Ambushed

The next morning after eating the gobul Alex stretched when he awoke in his temporary nest with a bit of excitement. If the fleet commander hadn't exaggerated then today would be the day when he could finally move into his new nest since it's construction was supposed to be wrapped up today. The people of astera had really wanted to make Alex's nest special rather than just a simple hut like his temporary nest was and had started to dig into the cliff behind the canteen. Apparently the nest was supposed to be a huge cavern with its own water pool that was piped in from the waterfall.

Digging out the cavern and working the water in such a way as to prevent it from over filling and flooding the cavern had taken from the day he reached his current size till now so about three days. The only reason it took so little time was that before the fifth arrived the whole of astera had pitched in to help with the work. Funnily enough Alex had actually been chased off when he came to help since everyone wanted to collectively do something they personally helped create just for him.

'Good people all around me indeed old man.' Alex thought fondly of the family he had been adopted into. There was no doubt at all that the people of astera may not be related by blood (most of the time) but they were as close as kin despite that. After spending months cohabitating with Alex the entirety of astera had somehow managed to adopt him without any issues into their community. It was a strange and unusual group of people joined under strange and unusual circumstances but Alex wouldn't trade a damn thing.

Alex left his temporary nest and nodded at the guards outside astera who waved at him with smiles before he flapped his wings and took off into the air. Today he was headed over to the ancient forest to hunt wing drakes since he only needed three more in order to unlock the [dense muscles] trait. It had taken him a good while to collect enough when he was much smaller but now that he was his current size it would be easy to both catch and devour the wyverns. Today was a slightly windy but otherwise clear day as Alex soared high above the ground at a good pace.

Thanks to flying being much faster than walking in the case of long distances such as the several mile difference between astera and the center of the forest Alex arrived over that area in close to ten minutes. Swooping down silently was a tricky skill that Alex had put in the effort to learn since his wings weren't naturally designed with it in mind. This didn't mean they weren't a perfect set for him since the entirety of astera would argue if someone said they weren't , it simply was the way of them was all.

Still Alex made no sound at all as he dived down at a group of four wingdrakes resting on the tree with his front claws spread open to grab them all. The only warning the small wyverns got before Alex had them trapped in his claws was a huge shadow covering them. They did not even get a chance to scream before Alex ripped off their heads with a single snap of his powerful jaws. Alex ignored the fountains of blood that covered his face and chest as he started to devour the still twitching bodies.

While Alex had the habit of eating his food cooked along with his daily doses of max potions that he was totally not addicted to (cough) he still ate some things raw if it was more convenient. Alex smiled at the notification from the system before dismissing it and looking around to see if there was any interesting things nearby. Alex didn't even realize it until it hit him that a pukei pukei was nearby and had taken exception of his active hunting on it's turf. By "hit him" i am of course referring to a huge glob of purple poison spat at him.
