Chapter 28: Clear mind

Alex ate the odogaron which was very stringy and got caught in his teeth easily which was annoying. the taste wasn't that great either but considering it's normal diet he wasn't that surprised about it tasting a little bland and flavorless. he got a hundred thousand points for it which meant it was roughly equal to the anjanath on the food chain. after finding a good spot to lay low for a few days while he waits for the third fleet to reconnect with the other fleets and get updated on alex before he showed up.

He knows that on foot it was a two day trip at the least so he had time to design an item or ability to keep his thoughts clear even in an enraged state. alex had so many premade options he could use from various different medias it wasn't hard to find one. the best one in his opinion was the dual mind ability that legion from marvel had that made it so that despite his multiple personalities he functioned completely normally. alex was going to tweak it a bit so that his logical thoughts were not overshadowed by his bodies instinctual rage if he entered such a state.

This wasn't to be confused with his logic being separated from his emotions since he knew enough to realize how that direction could end up with him as little more than robotic. he created this ability and carefully placed the description to avoid any crazy changes from taking place. this ability was actually very cheap since with enough time alex could train himself to this point but that would take years that he couldn't risk. the entire story of the game only took around two and a half years at most and could be even less thanks to alex's presence.

The monsters got progressively more powerful as the story went on and they hadn't even hit the point that the high rank monsters started to show up. that wouldn't happen until it was time to send zorah out into the sea to die harmlessly. around a similar time was when the first actual elder dragon hunt became available in the game against the kirin. alex already knew that the kirin was basically helpless against him since he was immune to thunder damage. the kirin was an elder dragon that relied on it's naturally huge amount of power to go unchallenged.

But if another elder with immunity to thunder and a strong body showed up it was hopeless against them. this was shown with how easily the rajang species snapped the horns of kirins to eat as a snack that gave their fighting prowess a huge boost for a time. none of that mattered yet however as alex saved the new ability and felt a slight headache but that was the only difference at the moment. the ability itself only cost him five thousand points so he barely even noticed the drop in his savings as a result.

Alex kept an eye out on the third fleets base over the next three days while hunting the poalumu and tzitzi ya ku as his normal prey. it was while he was out flying around the coral highlands when he heard the whistle that the fleet commander used as a signal. looking at the source of the sound alex wasn't surprised to see the field leader waving his hands to get alex's attention. next to the field leader was the head of the third fleet who looked very nervous about meeting alex.

Alex dove down towards them causing the third fleet head to hide behind the field leader like a frightened child. alex didn't blame her as he was very aware of how terrifying he looked with all of the little details he had done over time to streamline his hunting prowess. he kicked up a small dust cloud from the air moved by his wings as he landed in front of the field leader. just to ease the third fleet head into a comfortable state of mind alex soaked the two people in water leaving them sputtering and complaining.

It worked too as the third fleet head didn't even notice when her fear of alex melted away into her anger at getting soaked. she complained loudly and even glared at alex who merely huffed at her like he was laughing. the field leader also complained but gave alex a thankful nod for breaking the tension. "so you've been hanging out out here this whole time huh? had folks back at astera worried something had happened to you." the field leader said honestly. alex just snorted and the field leader laughed "yeah that's what pops thought as well 'if something was strong enough to get obsidian we had better be damn worried' were his exact words on the subject." the field leader said mimicking his dad.
