Chapter 29: Shocking revelation

"Well anyway sid this is marin the head of the third fleet that had apparently been grounded here after a monster broke a fundamental part in their airship. marin this is obsidian the guardian dragon and well known prankster." the field leader made official introductions. "you mean he has done similar things in the past?" marin asked in disbelief. the field leader just laughed " oh yeah , there was this one time he spiked three barrels of ale with chilies and excite shrooms and watched as some riley hunters set their mouths blazing while the excite shroom increased their sensitivity making it so much worse." he said with a chuckle.

Marin giggled at the mental image "so i take it that means he's docile?" she asked seriously. the field leader shook his head " quite the opposite actually , i once had the opportunity to watch him hunt a rathian in the wildspire waste and he literally choked the life out of it. most terrifying thing i've ever seen." he said seriously and she suddenly looked much more uncomfortable. "thankfully we have a working relationship of mutual respect that makes things pretty peaceful so long as we don't purposefully test his limits." the field leader added after seeing her reaction letting her calm down again. 

"The only person that sid might actually be friendly towards is the admiral and even he knows better than to disrespect sid. other than that anomaly of a man the only person who has no problem acting in an even slightly testing manner is the handler of the fifth fleet head. she actually managed to get sid to share his kills with her. by no way is this anything short of a grand accomplishment since sid guards his food strictly." the field leader said honestly.

"Has he ever attacked anyone for any reason?" marin asked cautiously. "that's the only odd thing about sid , despite there being a few times that would have justified an attack he never goes much further than growling at you to warn against certain actions. and that's enough for us to get the message and prevent any accidents. the closest i think we ever got to an attack was when sid got done shedding his scales. someone found his treasure in his nest and tried to walk off with it and sid physically stopped the man while glaring at him before telling him to drop it." he said honestly.

Alex just sat there calmly while the field leader explained all he could while answering marin's questions about alex. the most recent one however needed alex's input however as it was about other members of his race. alex had growled to get their attention before pointing at himself and raising a single claw. "you are the only one left?" the field team leader tried to interpret but he was worse at it than his dad and failed. alex drew a circle with his claw and covered it in small child like scribbles of people and animals.

"The world?" marin guessed and alex nodded before repeating his first action. "the only one in the world?" she asked and alex nodded. the field leader and marin looked shocked at this revelation especially the field leader who understood what that meant. "this explains why we have no records of your race nor could we find any others. did you all die out somehow or were you hunted to near extinction?" the field leader asked seriously. but alex just shook his head and pointed at the circle again and drew a single line with an equal sign followed by an infinity sign.

"You are the only one of your kind EVER?!" marin asked in astonishment when she figured out what alex meant. alex nodded and the field leader immediately excused himself since he needed to report this news immediately because it meant that alex was way more special than anyone had even thought. this information sent waves through the whole of astera as it meant that alex wasn't just unique in his attitude towards people by rather entirely unique as the only member of his race to ever exist.

Alex had revealed this on purpose solely to ensure that the people of the world didn't go trying to take over the world by looking for more like him. while this made his importance greater it also made the usefulness of his race far lower since an individual is elder dragon is not capable of changing the entire worlds balance. if not for the system alex might have agreed with this assumption however thanks to the system he merely needed to accumulate points over time to do exactly that. if he saved enough points to make himself stop aging he could literally accumulate power forever theoretically.

For those wondering why i have only been posting a single chapter or at most two a day , it was so i didn't just burn through this story super fast. at three or four chapters a day the story would quickly reach the end and i wanted to draw it out a little more than that hence i showed down.
