Chapter 19:

Kidnapped

The day was beautiful, and I was out with my absolutely stunning wife. The crisp autumn air was just right. It was refreshing and with my wife's arms around me, everything felt perfect.

Perhaps that should have been my sign. When things feel too perfect, you get complacent. With the guards being called off, we were alone. A feeling in the pit of my stomach was screaming at me. I ignored it because I was busy looking at my wife. Tucking her hair behind her ear as she took a whiff of yellow flowers that the florist had outside.

They were the last flowers that would be outside before winter hit. The sight was breathtaking, and the speeding car was not in my mind. A black hover-van pulled up quickly. Everything was in slow motion.

Cecelia looked back just in time to see the side of the van open, as four men quickly got out. They grabbed me, and while she was quick, she wasn't quick enough. Blood flashed before my eyes as one of the men screamed. The last view of the street was of the yellow flowers, splattered with blood.

The finality of the door closing, a bag was shoved over my head. The van zooming off before the door was even closed. My heart raced as I was tossed into the back. Letting out a grunt of pain. The sack was rough and itchy.

"What the fuck!" A man's voice exclaimed.

"Calm down!" Another ordered.

"How the hell can I calm down!" They shot back, angry, "She got the boss!"

"...Well, we have him," I felt a kick on my legs and something sharp pressed against my throat, "If she wants him in one piece...she'll bring the boss along with the money."

"Kidnappers? Really?" Panic set in as I began to hyperventilate.

Despite what I could assume was a knife against my throat I began to rock back and forth. Breathing heavily as I began to think of what was going to happen to me.

"She didn't save me, she didn't...no," I had to calm myself, though my mind was running a million miles an hour.

"What the fuck's wrong with him?" A third man called, "Ugh, careful with that damn thing. We aren't here to kill him."

"But the boss was-" The sound of someone being hit followed by silence.

"Our job is to just get the man," I wish I could see who was talking, it was hard to keep track, "We won't get paid if he's dead."

"...Sorry," The knife against my throat eased up.

"Hey," A voice addressed me, "Calm down will you."

I couldn't help it. I was rocking back and forth, my fingers tapping on my legs. I couldn't do anything to calm myself down. Cecelia wasn't around, but she would be.

"...She would be," The thought of that was comforting, and despite my doubts of calming down, I was able to relax enough to speak.

"W-Who are you?" I trembled, my adrenaline running high.

"None of your business," One of them sneered, "Just be quiet and do what you're told, and you won't get hurt."

My arms were forced behind my back as I felt them begin to wrap my wrists roughly with some kind of rope. It was itchy and caused my entire skin to crawl. Rubbing my fingers along the palm of my hands, I tried to get rid of the itchy sensation of the rope. This texture was not okay.

After a while the van came to a stop as I was shoved out of it. Falling onto the ground, it felt hard like stone, possibly concrete. I couldn't see anything with this sack over my head.

"Y-you know...You really shouldn't do this," I tried to reason with them, because I knew how this would turn out.

"Shut up!" I was shoved once more, stumbling forward, "Just keep moving."

"Well...I warned you," Thinking to myself, I sighed, trying my best to listen. There sounded to be a lot more people than in the van. Moving me through various twists and turns, there was small conversations between a couple of them.

"Hey! Where's the boss, didn't he-" An unfamiliar voice questioned.

"He's dead," One of them said grimly, "And if he isn't, he won't last long. After all, you know who we kidnapped, don't you?"

"No, since you won't tell us anything," Another responded, slightly annoyed, "So I assume just some upper echelons husband?"

"Ha. Right, yeah...upper echelon," I could hear them shaking their head by the sound of their voice, "This job was fucking stupid, but the client wanted this. Get in there."

Coming to a stop as they said this, I was pushed and fell onto the ground. It was cold, damp. The sound of a metal door closing and then locking.

"I can't believe this is actually happening," Blood pumped in my ears, anxiety was high, and I couldn't see. Everything was pitch black. The sack on my head gave no gaps for any light to get through, and the room itself was most likely dark.

"She'll come for me...she will," I told myself, trying to calm down.

I began to rock back and forth again, unable to control myself any longer. Back and forth, over and over. My breathing became ragged as the sack made it difficult to breath. There were no sounds except the blood rushing through my ears. Even the distant chatter of those who kidnapped me were garbled.

After a while, the door opened as someone walked in, "You..."

It was a female voice, angry. I didn't recognize it.

"The boss...It was your fault," I felt a sharp pain in my side as she kicked me.

Grunting in pain, I was knocked to the ground as I gasped for breath. The force behind it was great as I screamed in pain. I was kicked several more times from this woman before the sounds of a scuffle could be heard.

"Anise, stop it!" A man grunted, "If he's harmed, we won't get paid!"

"What kind of bullshit is that!" She screamed; a sudden heavy blow clocked me in the face.

My head was ringing as I fell completely to the ground.

"Roberts dead because of this!" She continued to shout.

"He chose this job! He knew the risks!" Someone told her, the screaming getting quieter.

"Get her out of here!" Another woman voice rose up, a slight Indian accent, "And you...just stay put and try not to make any trouble."

It wasn't like I could, tied up as I was. I was at their mercy, but it seemed that not everyone knew who they had just kidnapped, nor from who.
