Chapter 28:
Boredom
"Aaaleeex," Yuriko called, skipping over to me, "I'm booored."
"I-I see..." Looking up from my book, I lounged on the divan in Cecelia's home office.
Today, Yuriko wore black sweatpants and crop-top. Hanging off her shoulders was a dark green sweater jacket. It was an overall very sporty style. I couldn't imagine how cold her stomach had to be as winter was soon approaching us, and it was reaching near the freezing point outside.
I was thankful that, at the very least, I was inside. As Yuriko planted herself on the floor, I had a feeling that would soon change. Resting her arms on the edge of the divan, and her head upon them, she beamed up at me.
"Dear," Cecelia spoke up, looking up from her paperwork, "Could you...Ah. Yuriko, perhaps it's best if we stay inside today?"
Cecelia had seen the look I had given her and knew right away that I didn't want to go out. Of course, I was not prepared for Yuriko's pout. I never was. Sulking in such a way I felt like she'd melt into the floor, my heartstrings being pulled.
"It's unfair how good she is at that..." Looking at her and then at Cecelia, she knew as well as I did that I had lost this battle.
"...Okaaay," Yuriko moped, turning over and spreading herself out with her head back on the divan.
She looked at the ceiling so dejected, and though I tried to return to my book, I could not stop glancing at her just laying there tracing circles with her finger on the ground. Looking to Cecelia for help did nothing. She simply smiled and shrugged.
"I thought you were supposed to help me...." Glaring in betrayal at her, I sighed.
"Alright...fine," Making sure to mark my page, I closed the book, "Yuriko...what do you want to do?"
Instantly, she perked up, spinning over like an overactive dog as she looked up at me with bright eyes.
"Really!?" She grinned, giggling slightly, "Yuriko wants to go out!"

"...Very well, let me get ready," Sitting up, I set the book down and instinctively placed a hand on top of her head.
It was without thought, and impulsive. It surprised everyone there, including Yuriko herself. Though she was the quickest to recover. Her face lit up, softening and smiling serenely. Embarrassment ran through me, and part of my brain didn't register to move my hand.
Cecelia looked on in amusement, resting her head against her propped up hand. Giving Yuriko a quick pat, I removed my hand. Hiding the blush on my face.
"Aren't you cute," Cecelia mused, teasing me, "I'm glad you get along. I'll send some guards with. So-"
"No!" Yuriko exclaimed, jumping up and wrapping her arms around mine, "Just Alex!"
She pouted angrily at her sister who raised an eyebrow towards her.
"You understand..." Cecelia's tone took on some steel, "That Alex is important to me."
"Of course!" Yuriko smiled, a sudden clarity entering her eyes, "Don't worry, Sister. I'll keep him safe."
"...I know," Cecelia nodded, relaxing, "Very well, no guards. Just have fun, alright?"
Yuriko grinned as she began to pull me up from my seat. Looking back towards Cecelia, she smiled lovingly at me, blowing me a kiss.
"Have fun, love. Thank you for indulging her," She called after me, grateful, "And Yuriko, do take it easy. You know how he is."
Yuriko waved back in acknowledgement, dismissing her concerns. Before I knew it, I was bundled up with two pairs of sweatpants, a sweater, and a scarf. I wasn't receptive to the cold. While some could be refreshing, the cold was never my friend. Entering the hovercar, we headed on our way to wherever Yuriko wanted to go.
