Chapter 35:
Crimson Snow
The awkwardness I felt after confronting those three from my past was finally winding down. As was the dynamic shift within my life as Yuriko became part of the relationship I shared with Cecelia. The first snow of the year was finally starting. The Winter Solstice was finally on its way. All the various holidays were being celebrated in a little over a month away.
Curled up in my lap was Yuriko. Her soft, shallow breathing indicated she was sleeping peacefully. A blanket covering her and warming the both of us. Her hands held under her chin was quite the adorable image.
In turn, I was rested against Cecelia. Both of us reading under the warm light of the nearby lamp. The large couch we found ourselves lounging on was quite comfortable. The deep crimson upholstery and dark wood of the room gave everything a cozy feeling.
Even in this day and age, wood was still used to build. Gave things a bit of a rustic feel, but one that gave such warmth. Cups of hot chocolate steamed on the nearby side table. Cecelia absentmindedly played with my hair, as I did the same for Yuriko.
This was our new dynamic, and while it took me a while to understand, I was finally getting a bit more comfortable. Though there were a few things I was still unsure of. Taking a break from reading I gazed upon Cecelia. Her hair was done up messily, yet still somehow felt so elegant.
Ombre strands fell and framed her face in such a way that one could mistake her for an angel. Of course, I knew what lay underneath. A killer. Then again, in some stories there are angels who kill for their beliefs. A cause that is stronger than anything else.
"To me...she is an angel," My vision turned to Yuriko, a soft smile on my lips, "They both are..."
"Everything alright, dear?" Cecelia's calm, soft voice asked.
"Yeah...just thinking," Looking back towards her, I took in her beautiful autumn eyes, "All of this...I still can't believe it, yet...I am here."
It was difficult for me to look people in the eyes for too long. I would often glance or find myself looking just slightly below them. Their nose, mouth, cheek, or sometimes chin. Using my peripherals to decipher things. Now, I was able to look into hers for a lot longer.
"Yes, you are," Her hand came up, cupping my cheek, "I hope you think of it as your home."
"Love..." Pressing my hand against hers, I felt the warmth against my cheek as I kissed her palm gently, "Anywhere you are...where both of you are, is home."
Her face lit up with satisfaction, a warm smile across her lips.
"Truly," Closing my eyes, I held her hand firmly against my face, "I never thought I'd feel this way, and you made that possible. I never thought I could love you more, and yet each day I find myself falling harder."
Opening my eyes, I saw a spectacular sight. Hiding her face behind her book, Cecelia was blushing intensely. I could tell she was smiling, for it reached her eyes even as they shifted about bashfully. After a moment, they settled on me. The obsession in them overwhelming.
"Dangerous words, my love," She teased behind the book, "Dangerous words."
"I don't mind a bit of danger..." I thought to myself, smiling in satisfaction.

The air was crisp, and I was bundled up in the warmest attire I could manage without going too overboard. Me and the cold never got along, and yet I did enjoy it. The snow on the ground and the chill in the air. I was lucky that the wind was calm.

"As they often said back home, it's not the cold that gets you, it's the wind," I smiled fondly as it was often a stereotype, but it is true. The wind chill is often the real killer when it comes to the cold. Like tiny needles digging at your skin, attacking your lungs so you can't breathe.
The slight crunch of the snow underfoot sounded in my ears. Yuriko and Cecelia walked on either side of me. Yuriko clung to my left arm while Cecelia held my right hand. A sensation I never thought I'd ever experience, and now it was the norm for me.
Of course, when walking with two such women there would always be trouble. Hoodlums of a sort. Your typical lot. Bundled for the cold, but to the smallest degree possible to appear "cool". Hooded and cybered out, the lines of tech glowing slightly among their exposed skin. With smirks on their faces, they sauntered over.
"Poor fools..." I thought, doing my best to ignore them as we walked.
"Hey, hey!" A modulated voice called out, "It's dangerous walking alone, you know."
Cutting off our path, we came to a stop before them. I counted about six of them, but that didn't matter. I could only see this ending one of two ways.
"It's a good thing we're not walking alone then," I told them, pushing through my anxiety, "So if you don't mind..."
"I don't think you understand..." The one with the modulated voice took a step forward, towards me, "I'm speaking to these two lovely ladies. You don't count for much here. This is our neighborhood."
"Ah, honestly. I never knew just how cliche people could be," Sighing, I looked towards Cecelia and Yuriko. They were as calm as ever, but I could see it. Their eyes had that glint to them. The one that said their patience was running thin.
"Dear..." Cecelia intoned soothingly, with a hint of steel, "May I?"
"Oh, you may," The modulated voice attempted to sound seductive.
"She wasn't talking to you," Rolling my eyes, I took a breath, "You have two options. I am inclined to tell you...Let us through or die. Simple options."
"Excuse me?" He snarled, not liking what he heard, "I think you have two options. Leave the girls or die."
Flicking his wrist, a blade extended from it. The sun glinted off of its metallic surface. As it came to be extended towards me, it never reached. I watched as if in slow motion as his arm became detached from the rest of him. A vibrant display of red, blue, and black liquid sprayed into the air.
Cecelia's eyes were like daggers. Her speed was great, as even I did not see how or from where the thrumming thin blade she held in her hand came from. Even the man who lost his arm had no clue what had happened. Staring at his arm as it fell to the snow-covered ground. Its liquids soaking into the pure white. What was left of his arm crackled with electricity from exposed wires and flesh.
In practiced motions both Cecelia and Yuriko took up a protective barrier around me. As they caught their bearings, the unfortunate victims chose to attack rather than run. Yuriko's needle found their marks. Each thrust was precise and calculated as she flowed among them like water.
Their weapons that came from their arms or pulled from the folds of their clothes held no purchase against them. Cecelia's blade found no resistance as she carved into their helpless selves. The snow soon became colored red from blood. Speckled with the various shades of black and blue from other liquids.
They stood like Valkyries among those defeated. Yuriko's ever smiling face serene, while Cecelia's gaze was calm, cold. Both beautiful and sights to behold. In this moment I saw the tonal difference between them in such contrast that I felt my heart ache. Beating with the desire I held for them both.
Leaving the twitching, lifeless corpses of meat and wires behind, they escorted me away. Ensuring I was safe and not seeing too much of the gore they left in their wake. My stomach churning, yet my heart was burning.
