Chapter 47:
Settling In
"Uncle, can I really ask you questions?" Alana inquired after finally calming down her giggling.
She held her hot chocolate between both hands, casually sipping it as it cooled down.
"Well, you just did," I teased, smiling playfully, "But yes, anything you want."
"Heh, thank you," Taking a sip of her drink, her eyes going between me and Yuriko, "So...are you two together?"
I felt a bit embarrassed at the sudden question, but figured it was coming. She had been looking between us for a while, and she knew that Cecelia and I were married. Looking towards Yuriko, I noticed she was hiding her head slightly against my shoulder, a slight blush to her cheeks.
"Yes, Alana," I answered, smiling warmly at Yuriko, "Though we're still figuring it all out."
"I see..." Alana contemplated a moment, "So, you're married to Cecelia, but...also dating her sister?"
"I...well, yeah, something like that," Hearing it said out loud did make it seem bad, but it was all consensual and known, "I know it might be confusing. Honestly, I'm still getting used to it."
"But you're happy?" She asked softly, her words held a hint of something I couldn't quite place, "They seem nice..."
"Alana?" Curious, I prodded her for some answers, "Is everything alright?"
"Mhm," She nodded, smiling but there was a sadness to it, "I've just been worried is all."
"Worried? Why?" Adjusting myself, Yuriko curled up closer to me.
"Well...you've always had bad people around," Her words pierced through me, "You've always been there for me. People don't treat you well, but now..."
Looking up at me, the deep blue of her eyes seemed to draw me in. I realized then just what it was I heard in her tone. Apprehension. She was worried for me. Despite everything going on with her, she was thinking of me.
"Alana..." I called her name softly, touched at her concern.
"Yes?" She responded coyly, smiling as she took another sip from her cup, "So...are you?"
"...Honestly?" I asked.
"Honestly," She nodded, shifting the cup in her hands.
"Yeah, Alana," Gazing over at Yuriko, whose amber eyes stared up at me with that serene smile on her face, I nodded, "I am happy, or at least getting there. My depression is still a bitch, but...Yeah. I'm much better than I ever was before."
Looking back towards Alana, my heart warmed at the sight I saw. She had such a warm smile on her face. A relief seemed to wash over her as she slumped back against the couch.
"Do you think..." She paused for a moment, staring up at the ceiling before she continued, "Can I also...have that?"
Freeing myself from Yuriko, I leaned over towards Alana. Reaching a hand out to her, I placed it upon her knee. Looking at me, her eyes were filled with a pleading that tore at my heart.
"For as long as I am alive," I told her, full confidence in my voice, "For as long as I am able, you can have anything you want from now on. You understand?"
"...Those words are unfair," She whispered, tears building in her eyes, "You'll make me really hope..."
"Alana," Her name came from my lips with care, "I know the feeling, and I'll tell you what Cecelia told me."

"What's that?" She asked, her interest piqued.
"Well, it's a bit modified, but..." Laughing lightly to myself, I looked her in the eyes as best as I could, "I know you may not believe it, and it's hard for you to get comfortable and have hope. This is your life now. You live with us. I hope in time you'll come to believe it."
"...Really?" She questioned, unsure of it, but I understood the feeling.
"Really, really," I told her, giving her knee a comforting pat before letting go and leaning back towards Yuriko, "Once you're done with your hot chocolate, we'll show you around. There are several rooms available. You can choose whichever one you want, right Yuriko?"
"Yep!" She agreed with me, hugging me to her, "Alex is great! You'll be okay!"
"Yeah, he really is..." Alana mumbled, smiling towards us, "Thank you, Uncle..."
"I-I don't think I'm that great," Blushing, I scratched my cheek bashfully, "I really don't understand. I just-"
Yuriko's finger pressed itself against my lips, stopping me mid-sentence.
"Celia told me to do this if you start talking bad about yourself," Yuriko's face came really close to mine, frowning as she looked me in the eyes seriously, "So shush!"
Alana giggled, and though I was going to protest, in that moment I decided not to.
"A-Alright," I mumbled, blushing even more, Yuriko removed her finger slowly, "Let's get the tour started. You can bring your hot chocolate, alright?"
Nodding, Alana held her cup to her as we stood. My life changed so quickly in the last few months; it was enough to make anyone dizzy.

Showing Alana around, she marveled at the size of the place. Truth be told, I was still in awe of everything. The penthouses were like mansions. Though Cecelia also had several of those as well. Something to do with titles and her family's bloodline. I couldn't recall everything, but I knew her family had a history.
We had to convince Alana it was truly alright to pick a room of her own. There were several empty rooms, and those that were in use could be rearranged and refurbished to fit her preferences. She was quite overwhelmed, and when she finally chose her room, she was quite shy about it.
"...C-Can I have a room close to you?" She asked, looking between me and Yuriko, "I just...don't want to be too far."
"Of course," It was not even a question as I answered, "You choose the one you want."
Alana finally decided on a room two doors down from mine and Cecelia's. Of course, Yuriko shared that room as well, even though she had a room of her own. It was awkward at first, since I often slept in the nude. We had yet to be intimate, so I didn't want to make it weird for her.
I began to wear boxer shorts to bed, but Yuriko didn't seem to mind as she wore an oversized t-shirt and her underwear to bed. I don't know how or why she felt so comfortable around me, but I was happy as long as she was. I was still getting used to the new dynamic. Cecelia seemed to be enjoying it.
After choosing her room, there was only one thing left to do. Yuriko grabbed her hand, and they took off. Alana needed some care that I couldn't give her. She was shy at first to go, but I promised her I would be here when she was done. Alana needed to wash up.
She was never well taken care of. Her hair was messy and knotted. Most likely hadn't been washed in days. She was grimy at no fault of her own. The utilities on her home had not been paid. No one had checked up on her until the police came to check after finding her mother.
Yuriko would make sure she was cleaned up, something I couldn't do. With Alana known to be arriving, Cecelia called in extra hands. So, there were a couple young maids that went along with them. As Yuriko pushed her along gently, she glanced back one more time at me. Waving to reassure her, she returned an awkward yet happy smile.
