Chapter 53:
Purging the Streets
With Derek and his accomplices in our custody, it wasn't long before the rest of those involved were discovered. Their tongues wagged freely, thinking it would save them from the worst of it. They were taken, hidden deep in an Ishikawa-Alden black site. They would not escape.
The drug they used was called "Euphoria". It was discovered in the Middle East after the Eco-Conversion helped new plants flourish. It wasn't discovered right away, but created through trial and error. It soon replaced Ecstasy as a powerful aphrodisiac and suppressant. It was highly addictive.
The Nile was where the plants were born, and the organization that created the drug took its name after the famous river. I watched, as over the next few days the Ishikawa-Alden Corp, in coordination with the Free States of the Middle East banded together in purging The Nile from their lands. They found no solace in the New European Union who followed closely behind in its crackdown on the drug.
Even the Asian Market, infamous for its black markets, refused the drug. For their survival, The Nile would have to abandon its production. Euphoria was now a Class 1 Offense worldwide. No one knew what pushed this crackdown, and I was content in that. I only cared for the safety of those who were being abused with it, and the fact that it would, hopefully, never be seen again.
Of course, I knew the way of the world. It would resurface in the darkest dens of the world, but for now it would be quiet. Cecelia informed me of all of this. What the projected results would be. She predicted everything down to every last detail. "Damn...she's a force to be reckoned with."
My admiration for her only grew. Her agents swept through the districts of the Twin Cities, procuring all those on the list of names Derek and his two goons gave up. I met each and every one of them. I wasn't going to distance myself. I couldn't, as much as Cecelia wanted to keep me from it, she understood.
Their confessions came as they screamed from the searing blade cut into their flesh. Cecelia, her eyes cold as she carved their flesh. My jaw clenched at the sounds, my stomach churning, but I persevered. Even Sadia participated in their capture and torture. When she heard of the story I had to tell, any apprehension she held disappeared.
I felt guilty for bringing her into this, but she simply waved my concerns away. Stating that she has done worse in her time as a mercenary. She's had to in order to survive. When Rosa's father abandoned them, she was left to fend for herself. She was young and alone. Yet, with skills that could be used.
She killed, kidnapped, and stole to support herself and her daughter. Seeing these men reminded her of the useless bastard that abandoned her and their child. She learned later on that she dodged a bullet. He had planned on selling both her and her child into the sex trade. He ran because the authorities were close on his tail.
She was only 17-years old at the time Rosa was born. She saw the world in him, but it all came crashing down. Later in life, she found him and killed him. Killing was no issue for Sadia. Rosa, she said, was better off without him in her life. I could understand that sentiment.
Alana's father, Braden, disappeared and has never once made an effort to be in her life. Part of me wondered if Cecelia had anything to do with that, but I didn't think long on it. What mattered was that Alana was finally safe. Now that I had the ability, I would make sure she was taken care of.
I felt like I bonded with Sadia as I listened to her, speaking of my own family with her. She was receptive, listening with attentiveness. It was strange being this close with her after all this time. She was with those who kidnapped me, but I held no animosity towards her.
With the job done, and her daughter safe, she seemed to be more relaxed now. Her brisk demeanor nearly melted away, but I could tell she was still a professional. The way she carried herself had purpose. I was grateful Cecelia had taken the chance to employ her.
"I wanted to keep an eye on her," Cecelia told me, washing her hands clean of the blood she had from the recent confession.
We were alone in the room. It was a break room complete with everything a lounge and kitchen would have. I had asked about Sadia, and that was the response Cecelia gave me.
"I just...guess I'm worried," I told her honestly, leaning on the countertop divider, "She has a child, and was just working to provide for her..."
"I know," Cecelia smiled warmly as she dried her hands, "You've a soft heart, and I'd not harm someone you've asked me not to. Well, unless they harm you."

She gave a wry, dangerous smile then. Laughing lightly to myself, I found myself amused.
"Honestly, you amaze me," I muttered, watching as she made her way around to me, "I'm just surprised. I expected you to keep them at a distance after my kidnapping."
Cecelia's hands found my shoulders, and with purposeful intent began to work at the knots in my flesh. Letting out a groan of satisfaction, I melted at her touch.
"My love," She spoke quietly, a tenderness to her tone, "If she was a threat, I would have silenced her and her daughter. You'd never be the wiser, but..."
Trailing off, she found the right knots, not giving me a chance to respond to her threat against them. She knew me too well. She knew just how to shut me up before I could argue. Falling to moans of satisfaction as she continued speaking.
"You asked me not to," Her words were matter of fact, "They did not harm you, and they only followed my foolish brother's orders."
"Mhm," It was the only word I could get out, lost to her massage as I was.
"Feeling good?" She teased, leaning in close, her breasts pressing against my back, "There are only a few more left to catch. Once we are done here, the streets will be cleaner."
Her fingers slowed as she ended her massage, wrapping her arms around me. Pulling me in close, she kissed me gently on the cheek. The lingering scent of lilac entered my nose, a slight citrus undertone hidden among the smell. It was ever so light, but masked the smell of blood just enough.
"I hope we finish soon," I mumbled, holding her arms to me, "I am tired of this..."
"You've done well, dear," She praised, her hold on me tightening, "I'm proud of you. We'll make sure they never harm anyone again and will pay for their transgressions."
I nodded, feeling empty as the last remaining embers of my anger began to fade away. I would forever resent those who harmed my sister, but I had more important things to deal with. I couldn't dwell on them forever. With Cecelia's help, the drug would be off the streets and the world would be a slightly better place.
"I just want to get back home..." My thoughts turned to Alana, who was waiting for us. It has been days since I last saw her. She had messaged me a few times, asking where I was and if I was safe. It broke my heart having to tell her that I wasn't going to be home for a while.
The last thing I wanted was for her to think I was her mother. Someone who disappeared for days and never said anything. I made sure to keep in contact, hoping that would alleviate her worries. Even though she was with Yuriko and Julius, I felt guilty.
Pushing myself up from the counter, Cecelia and I left to finish what was the left of the list. I had to see this through, for my own sake as much as my families.
