Chapter 59:

Antique Collectors

"Mother...what is this?" Sadia whispered, looking towards the thugs, "Are you in trouble?"

"Go. Inside, now!" Her mother urged us, but we weren't listening.

"Mother..." Sadia cautioned, standing up.

"Ma'am," I looked towards her, then at Alana, "Please, take my niece inside. Alana, can you go with her?"

"Uncle, I-" Alana held tightly to my hand, but seeing the look I gave her, she nodded, "Please...be safe."

I gave her a reassuring smile, nodding. Reluctantly, she released my hand as Sadia's mother took Alana with her as she retreated inside. Sadia's mother gave one last look outside before closing the door behind her.

"Madam Mishra!" One of them yelled, a thick Japanese accent, "Where are you going!? We came to have a friendly talk!"

"What business do you have with my mother?" Sadia asked, a steel to her voice as she stepped up beside me.

"Oh? You're her daughter, huh?" The same one who yelled asked, "Then perhaps we can come to some...arrangement."

"Are all these people the same?" Rolling my eyes, I never thought I'd see so many cliche people in my life. I always heard stories, but to see it in the flesh was always so strange. "Do they think they're that cool?"

Looking around, I counted at least ten of them. Yuriko subtly placed herself in front of me, her one arm behind her back, the other in front of me. Looking at her lower back, I saw the familiar glint of her golden needle. "The claws have come out..." I tried my best to settle the beating of my heart as adrenaline coursed through me.

The one talking had a shaved head and tattoos all over. He wore casual clothing, but with a bomber type jacket over it. Cyberware was evident on his exposed skin and face.

"What do you want with my mother?" Sadia repeated, stepping up beside Yuriko.

"And what of you, friend?" They called to me, "Do you hide behind two women, or do you have words to say as well?"

"...They are their own people, friend," I called, feeling the tension rise, "Tell us what you want and be on your way."

"I'm afraid I can't do that," He called, holding out his arms, "Me and my friends came to retrieve something, and we can't leave until we get it."

"And what is it you want?" I asked, glancing at his approaching friends, "I'm sure we can talk this out."

"Oh, we're way past talking," He smirked, flicking his wrist as a needle like blade extended from it, "Our boss wants what Madam Mishra has. A relic of her late husband. We've offered to buy it, but she has refused our generous offers several times now."

"You really don't want to do this," I tried to caution them, Yuriko was ready to pounce, "I'm saying this for your own good, man. Don't take a step closer."

"Are you threatening me?" He laughed heartily, his friends joining in, "A prissy boy like you tries to threaten me? Ha! You're not even half the man I-"

His words were cut short, a golden needle skewered threw his open mouth. I didn't even see Yuriko move. One second, he was talking, then the next he was not. My stomach turned on itself as the man stared wide-eyed, still trying to process what had happened.

Just as quickly, Yuriko made her move before any of them realized what had happened. Knocking the man to the ground, Yuriko pulled her needle from his skull as I held back an involuntary gag.

"He is more a man than any of you," Yuriko's smile spread eerily across her face as she leapt to the next one, moving like the very wind.

They were all thrown into disarray at the sudden display. Sadia, shocked for a moment, soon joined in. Pulling her own gun as she quickly shot three of them in succession. I turned from the carnage as I felt my stomach about to spill. Collecting myself, I rested my forehead against the cool wood of a nearby post.

"You!" A voice sounded angrily from my side.

Turning towards the voice, I came face to face with an angry Japanese man. He rushed at me, hand outstretched. My eyes went wide in surprise, but he never reached me. The silhouette of Yuriko landing upon him, needle smoothly going into his neck. Blood spurting forth, barely missing me, but landing upon Yuriko's face.

He came crashing down before me, Yuriko standing up from his lifeless body, her smile brightening as she saw me. Blood splattered across her cheek.

"Yuriko protects Alex!" Her smile was so proud of herself that I couldn't help but smile in return.

"Yes, you did," I laughed, looking towards Sadia who was currently finishing off two of them, "Thank you, Yuriko."

Giggling happily, she turned her head, and I followed her gaze. One of them was running.

"Catch him, Yuriko," I told her, "I want to know why they brought ten grown ass men to harass an old lady."

"Aye! Aye!" She saluted happily, and with a fluid motion turned, throwing her needle through the air.

All I heard was a muffled scream in the distance as the needle penetrated the man's leg, causing him to fall flat on the ground. Yuriko bounding away towards him. My heart was finally calming down as Sadia made her way over to me.

"...Are you sure you even need a guard?" She asked, raising an eyebrow towards Yuriko, "If she's like that, then..."

"Cecelia thinks I do," I shrugged, looking towards Sadia, blood smeared across her cheek as well, "At the very least, I'm even better protected with both of you. Here...you have some blood on your face."

Producing a handkerchief, I always kept on hand due to Cecelia's tendencies. Instinctively, I reached up to Sadia's cheek, causing her to flinch before I caught myself. Blushing, I handed her the handkerchief instead, looking away sheepishly. "It's such a habit I almost overstepped my boundaries..."

"...Thank you," Sadia shifted awkwardly, taking the handkerchief as she wiped her face clean.

"Aaalleex!" Yuriko called, waving her arm towards me, "Yuriko caught him!"

Glancing towards her, sure enough she had caught him. I felt a bit of pity for the man, for she was dragging him back by the leg. It seemed he had attempted to resist but had given up by the time they reached us. Tears of fear staining his cheeks.

"...I've never been so humiliated," He muttered as Yuriko sat him up.

"Well...I did warn you guys," I responded sympathetically, patting him on the shoulder.

He simply slumped back, defeated, "What do you want?"
