Chapter 60:
Relic Hunt
"I-I told you all I know..." The man begged, Yuriko's needle digging into his hand, "Please...let me go."
"Yuriko..." I called to her, holding my hand in empathy with the guy.
Looking back at me, her smile innocent as she took her needle out of the man's hand. Blood spurted forth before it began to pour out. His leg was bandaged to stop him from prematurely bleeding out. Holding his hand to his chest, he attempted to stop the bleeding.
"So...you came here to steal an heirloom?" I asked for clarification, "One that Sadia's father had before he died, and your boss wants it for...?"
"Agh...he's interested in the relic," The man told me through the pain, "That's all I know, really. He just collects relics of the past. Especially relating to the old religions."
"They aren't really old, are they?" I asked, thinking to the religions still present in the world.
"This relic is," The man winced, breathing heavily, "Apparently it dates back before the Eco-Conversion. I've heard...that the current bosses are fighting. This relic...it'll give our boss some respect. That's all I know. Honest."
Looking towards Sadia, she simply shrugged as she had no idea about the relic.
"First time I've heard of it," She said, but turned towards the man, "Still, that doesn't mean you should come to attack her."
"B-Bosses orders..." He grunted, adjusting himself, "If you don't obey, you die, or worse. Your family dies. The boss is...is not lenient."
Breathing heavily, the man was sweating a lot. "He's badly injured...he did lose a lot of blood." I knew he most likely wouldn't last, but something in his words hit me. "He has a family..."
"Who is your boss?" Sadia inquired, steel to her words, "Tell me where I can find them."
"Ha...that's..." Looking around, he made a decision in that moment, "I'll tell you, I'll be dead soon anyways."
"We can help," I said, my bleeding heart reaching out to him, "Just hold on. We'll get you help and-"
"No," He shook his head, interrupting me, "Too much blood loss...My family..."
With a bloody hand, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a wallet with a photo.
"It's old school, but I keep it on me always," He pushed the picture into my hand, "Please...make sure they're safe."
Taking the photo from him, I looked at it. Though a bit of blood smeared it, I saw a happy couple with small baby held between them. The two men looked happy together, one of them was the man before me.
"This..." Looking up at him, my heart ached, "Yuriko...can trauma make it?"
"N-No," The man shook his head, "I can't-"
Yuriko swiftly hit him in the neck, knocking him out. Smiling towards me, she looked satisfied with herself.
"He was wasting too much energy," She said, motioning to a bracelet on her wrist, "Trauma is on their way. Thirty seconds. Alex wanted him saved, right?"
"Yes, thank you," Smiling, I placed my hand on her head, patting it as she beamed up at me.
"That's great and all, but..." Sadia seemed conflicted, but sighed, "I guess we can get the information after he's conscious."
"We will," I nodded, looking towards her, "For now, it's important to ensure your mother and daughters safety."
Sadia nodded in agreement as Trauma arrived. They were well trained as they moved among the bodies, straight to us. Upon arrival, they quickly verified who we were and proceeded accordingly. With our orders, they stabilized the man and took him away. I placed the photo of his loved ones in his hand. "It's something he should hold onto..."

Alana immediately ran to me as I entered Miss Mishra's home. Sadia's mother greeted us inside.

"I heard the fighting...are you alright?" She asked, looking concerned.
"Yes, mother," Sadia reassured her, "What about Rosa?"
"She isn't here," Miss Mishra ushered us inside, "Come, let us talk."
"Mother...where is Rosa?" Sadia's voice became panicked, but her mother reassured her.
"She is fine," Miss Mishra led us further into the home, "She is visiting her grandfather's grave right now....Praying for your safety."
I saw the mixture of pain and love on Sadia's face, feeling a bit of what she felt. "That's sweet of Rosa...she really loves her mother, but...She worries for her." I made sure not to touch Alana with my bloody hand as we came to a sitting room.
"Ma'am," I called, a bit anxious, "Is it possible...for them to wash up first? I also need to wash my hand. I would have preferred if Alana hadn't seen them..."
Looking towards Yuriko and Sadia, they weren't exactly covered in blood, but they weren't spotless either. I tried my best to keep Alana from seeing, but there was no doubt that she had.
"I-It's alright, Uncle," She muttered, her hands clenching my clothing, "I've seen blood before..."
"Alana..." Kneeling down to her, I smiled as I cupped her cheek with my clean hand, "That may be, but that doesn't mean I want you to see it..."
Nodding in understanding, she smiled half-heartedly.
"You two...please, get cleaned up," Sighing, I stood and looked towards Miss Mishra, "I'm sorry for intruding."
"Nonsense," She dismissed, watching me with a keen eye, "You know my daughter, so you're welcome here as long as you're friends."
"...He's my employer, actually," Sadia spoke up, Yuriko tugging at her sleeve to go wash up, "I'm to be his attendant."
"Nothing says we can't be friends as well," I added, "But yes, she was hired by my wife as a guard and attendant."
"Your wife, huh?" Her gaze was piercing, looking between me and Sadia, "Shame...you seem like a nice man."
"Thank you, Miss Mishra," I smiled, feeling embarrassed, "But...I don't know what mean. Why is it a shame?"
I looked towards Sadia who gave me no help as Yuriko was pulling her away, hearing nothing of our conversation. Alana said nothing, and neither did Miss Mishra. I was completely lost.
"Don't worry about it," She waved her hand, "And please, Padma. Miss Mishra sounds...old and too formal. You're my daughter's employer, I'll not have you call me by honorifics."
"Very well, then please just call me Alex," I smiled, nodding to her.
"Alright, Alex," She waved for me to follow, "Come, wash up your hands. I'll prepare a snack...and Alana, is it?"
"Mhm..." Alana hid shyly next to me.
"Let's get you something that'll fit better," Padma smiled kindly, "It may not be what you're used to, but you look like you need something better than those."
"I'd appreciate it," I told her, looking down at Alana, "Circumstances haven't given us the chance to get her new clothes lately."
"You can tell me all about it over a cup of chai tea," Padma ushered us into another room to wash my hand; Taking Alana to change in the meantime.
