Chapter 84:
New Year, New Worries
Rosa held the panda for the rest of the evening. Alana stayed with her as they enjoyed the festival together. Scarlett watching over them, they all seemed to get along really well. The evening was winding down, and midnight fast approaching.
Cecelia and I locked arms as we sat on a nearby bench. The sky-top park was vast, situated on a rather large building. Trees lined the area, creating small, wooded patches throughout. Bushes and pathway lights line the walkways. People made their way by, but this area of the park was a bit less crowded.
"A new year," I muttered, looking towards the sky, "I really made it another year..."
"And you'll make it for more to come," Cecelia smiled, "You aren't going anywhere now that I have a hold of you."
Her arms tightened around mine. Leaning my head against her, I closed my eyes to take in the atmosphere.
"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," I told her, "You've changed my life. I don't know how I got so lucky. I really don't understand it. I feel like at any moment it's going to crack, and then...poof. You'll disappear."
Cecelia listened to me quietly. I was grateful she didn't interrupt. I needed to get this out. When she finally spoke, her words held gravity.
"Then...hold on tight," She said, wrapping an arm around me, "Hold on...and don't let go. I don't plan on going anywhere. I won't go anywhere. I know these words won't make you feel better, but just maybe-"
Her words reached deep into my heart, and without a second thought, I kissed her. Reaching my face up to hers, I silenced those beautiful words she spoke with the only gesture of my love I could express in that moment. My arms tightening around hers as she pulled me firmly against her.
Our breath filling the air as we parted. Breathing heavily as I smiled.
"What was that you said before?" I whispered to her playfully, "That you won't let me go? Well...After all you've done, do you really think I'd let you go?"
A self-satisfied smirk curled her lips. Reaching up to my face, her hand caressed my cheek lovingly. The adoration and obsession evident in her eyes. This moment was perfect, which meant that something was bound to ruin it.
The sound of a phone ringing from within Cecelia's pocket. A look of irritation crossed her face as she reached for her phone. Looking at the screen, her eyes sharpened like daggers.
"...This better be important," Her words were steel.
I watched as she listened to whoever was on the other end. The look of irritation growing the longer she listened.
"And you're unable to handle it because...?" Venom laced her tongue, "...I see. Very well. I hope you're willing to bear the consequences."
With that, the call was over, placing the phone back into her pocket. Taking a deep breath, Cecelia's expression softened as she looked towards me, her hand returning to my face.
"I have to deal with something," She told me, sorrow in her words, "I should be back before the fireworks start, but if I'm not you stay close to Sadia and Scarlett, understood?"
"...Where do you have to go?" I couldn't help but ask, worry filled my heart.
"Someone made a blunder," She told me, sighing in frustration, "It's one they apparently can't fix themselves...So, I must go clean their mess."
Looking into her eyes, it felt like she wasn't telling me something. "Does she not want me to worry?" Sighing, I couldn't help but feel frustrated.
"Will you be alright?" I took her hand in mine, holding it firmly.
Placing her hand over mine, she nodded.
"Of course," She smiled that smile I knew all too well.
"Fuck...I really can't compete with that," With nothing else left to do, I leaned in for another kiss, "Hurry back."
"Well, since you've asked..." She smiled, standing as she reluctantly let go of my hand, "Sadia, stay close to him. Scarlett, watch the kids."
"Kaaay~" Scarlett waved, smiling.
"Understood," Sadia saluted, walking over to me.
I could only sit there and stare as she moved quickly away. Looking up at Sadia, she gave me a sympathetic smile. "Why today of all days?"

I couldn't shake the feeling I had as we made our way to the spot we reserved to watch the fireworks. A secluded part of the park. With how the buildings all connected, hills could be built to allow gentle pathways up and down. It was on top of one of these that we found ourselves.
"The fireworks are about to start..." I muttered, looking around anxiously.
"She'll make, I'm sure," Sadia reassured me, but her words fell flat.
"Uncle?" Alana's hand on my arm drew my attention, "It'll be okay."
"I just...I feel something is wrong," I couldn't shake the feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Alana seemed conflicted, her face twisting in uncertainty.
"I'll be okay," I told her, hugging her tightly, "I'm sorry for worrying you."
"I just...I don't want you to not enjoy yourself," She whispered, reluctantly releasing me.
"Go, you should also enjoy yourself," I smiled knowing, giving her a wink.
Laughing lightly, she moved her way over to Rosa, nudging her as they sat together, waiting. Scarlett sat with them, rocking happily back and forth.
"Sadia..." I called to her as she stood next to me, "Do you know something?"
Glancing at her, I couldn't tell if she was hiding something or not, but I felt like there was a bit of hesitation in her response time.
"I am not aware of-" Sadia began to tell me.
"Sadia," I interrupted, steel in my voice and face, "If my family, and those I love are in danger...if there is something I must know...Tell me."
"I..." Before she got another word out, Scarlett perked up, and Sadia was pulling me to her.
Everything happened in a mere moment. Sadia opened her mouth to speak, her eyes darting to the side as she grabbed my wrist. Pulling me into her as I felt something whiz by my head.
I felt her body against mine, and as I looked up at her in surprise, her eyes were honed in. In the light of the neon lights, and softly falling snow, her eyes shone deadly. My heart stopped in my chest as I felt my mind go blank.
Held to Sadia, she kept me close as she pulled her gun. I felt every shot she took as it reverberated through her. She kept her ground, planted like a bastion in the night. In her arms, I felt safe. A familiar feeling, I got once from Cecelia. "Shit...I really am into this."
All I could see were bodies dropping as people in black suits from head to toe made their way towards us. Sadia moved fluidly, even as she held me close. I could feel her steady breathing, the rate of her heart. It was slow, despite the circumstances. Mine, however, was trying to compete in a triathlon.
"A-Alana! Rosa?" I called, my mind finally coming back to me, "Where are they?"
"Safe," Sadia answered, "Scarlett is with them."
Sure enough, as I turned my head to where they last were, Scarlett was there. Bodies on the ground before her, Alana was terrified. "She may be a Yandere...but that trauma doesn't go away." My heart was eased as I saw Rosa, her arms around Alana's head, holding her close. Her gaze was like a razor as she stared down those that came near them, only for Scarlett to take them down.
"She's in good hands...as am I." Though I knew I was safe in her hands, there were so many of them. Sadia had taken cover behind a large rock placed in the park, and Scarlett made her way with Rosa Leading Alana to a nearby building. "There's this many then..."
"Cecelia!" Fear tore at my heart as I broke free from Sadia.
"Alex, wait!" She called after me, but I wasn't listening.
"Protect the girls!" I yelled and order, my focus narrowing.
