'Rustle'

Three men were roaming the outer parts of Firalos.

While walking, one of them looked at the trees and saw the black leaves swaying along the wind.

"Are these edible?"

James asked as he took a fallen leaf on the ground.

"You must be really hungry, huh? That's a fucking leaf, you know?"

His fellow friend, Kelvin, raised his eyebrow at him.

"It's poisonous. I tested it on Greenhorns before."

Lucas calmly said while taking some of the leaves.

"If you crush them, some mucus comes out and you can use it to kill monsters more efficiently."

He crushed the obsidian leaves and spread the liquid on his weapon.

"Oh? Why didn't you use it earlier?"

Kelvin was confused about why Lucas didn't use them when fighting against the Yigak.

"It wasn't necessary and I don't know if it will work on the other monsters."

Lucas responded with a calm expression.

Suddenly, he felt two presences in the jungle sprinting straight at them.

His expression became serious while his whole body tensed to prepare for a fight.

The two men in his group saw his face and understood what it implied.

“It’s coming. Two of them.”

Lucas said shortly while pointing north to them.

Waiting for a moment, all of them stared ahead.

‘Crash’ ‘Crash’

Two Yigaks showed up rushing at their group.

Lucas managed to dodge easily given his speed.

However, the other two guys were almost stomped to death by the massive white boars.

‘Bang’ ‘Bang’

Deafening echoes of gunfires were heard across the enormous jungle.

These monsters came from hearing shots from the pistols during their previous fight.

It rushed straight here to check the place where the unknown loud sound came from.

At the present, Lucas shouted at the two men.

“Hold out for a while!

He coated his weapon with mana and was focused on the Yigak rushing back at him like a bull.

The moment when they were about to get into a collision, Lucas jumped and rode on its back.

He then stabbed its head while the boar was flailing around the surroundings.

It stopped moving and mindlessly laid on the soil.

Lucas then looked at his two fellows from afar.

They were still alive and running around the place.

Kelvin was being chased alone by the boar.

He went down on the ground to help them.

“Shit. I’m gonna go deaf someday from firing without hearing protection. My ears are ringing.”

James shot another bullet using his pistol.

The policeman didn’t bother covering his ears because of the urgency of the crisis.

Right at this moment, Lucas arrived and immediately jumped to strike.

He beheaded the monster in four seconds.

It took him longer this time as the white boar was moving around a lot.

“Haaa... You’re a lifesaver, Lucas.”

Kelvin was sweating hard from all the running.

“I think we should stop using guns. I’m certain that these boars heard the gunfire and went here.”

The man told his opinion while panting hard.

“You’re right. Look at Lucas. All he has is a sword and didn’t even need the poison.”

James came up to them and said in consecutive.

Lucas answered with a nod and ran toward the location where they heard the sound.

The two policemen followed him in the back.

After a few seconds, Lucas arrived at the destination and tried to verify the situation.

In front of his eyes, five humans were currently being assaulted by a huge carnivorous plant.

The plant was moving around and it had already captured a kid from the group with its lengthy vines at the time Lucas just entered the scene.

"Ivan! No!"

"Mama!"

A woman reached out her hand at her child.

Unfortunately, she was too late to react and only managed to grab the air.

The mother wanted to dash right away and rescue her son but was halted by a hand.

It was her husband that stopped the woman.

Even though the man was scared, he still mustered some courage to save their child.

At the moment, the kid was about to get eaten by the moving plant and everyone's faces were ashen when they saw this.

"Wait!"

Lucas shouted at the monster, but obviously, a beast only listens to its instincts.

'Crunch' 'Crunch'

The kid was eaten alive by the dozens of sharp teeth inside the carnivorous plant's mouth.

"Nooo!"

The mother wailed as she kneeled on the ground.

The father was speechless while standing seemingly frozen in shock.

Lucas dashed off in anger to kill the abomination.

He already used mana on his sword and for some reason, it felt more dangerous than ever.

Countless thorny vines attacked him from all sides.

He was grazed from the sides, but no fatal damage was given to his body.

After some time, the man reached the plant and slashed it from the left side of its stomach.

Even though it was a plant, its body was way tougher than the white boar.

His blade took six seconds to completely slice off the monster in two.

Its upper body fell to the ground with a thud.

Lucas quickly opened the monster's mouth while hoping that the child was still alive.

What he saw was traumatizing to the soul.

The entire body of the kid was filled with holes.

Blood was all over the place with the head being unrecognizable due to the monster's bite.

At this time, the two policemen were panting hard and had just arrived to witness the brutal event.

"In what world happened here?"

Their eyes were wide open when they saw the pool of blood flowing out of the carnivorous plant.

"Ivan! Ivan!"

The mother ran next to Lucas and took her son's body parts out of the monster's mouth.

She was shedding tears while holding the bloody arm of her child.

The expressions of the two other humans in their group were aghast.

Even though none of them knew each other personally, they felt the pain of the mother.

Anyone would feel the same thing if they witnessed someone's child dying in front of their parents.

"I was too late. Forgive me."

Lucas felt awful to his very core.

The mother only continued crying and didn't respond as she felt too much sorrow.

He felt even more terrible when he realized this.

"It wasn't your fault. Don't blame yourself."

Behind him, A melancholic voice was heard.

The father walked to his wife and hugged her while crying along.

"I should be the one blamed. I was too weak to protect my son."

He said with the weak voice left in him.

"What just happened here? Are you okay, Lucas?

Kelvin approached them along with James while looking at the plant's bisected corpse.

"I'm fine. It's just scratches. They were attacked by a monster. I couldn't save the child on time."

Lucas responded in a bitter tone.

Then, the two policemen saw the countless small limbs on the ground as they imagined the previous event that had just occurred.

"What should we do now?"

James asked Lucas and waited for his answer.

Then, the man with the sword responded.

"Let's stay here for a bit. Some monsters might come here due to the noises."

The black person agreed with him and sat down.

Thirty minutes later, the parents had finally regained their composure.

They dug a small grave for their beloved child.

Both of them were kneeling as they prayed close to the grave with proof of shed tears on their face.

After a while, the father went up to Lucas and said.

"Thank you. If not for you, a lot of us would've died and my son's corpse wouldn't be recovered."

He bowed deeply to him in gratitude.

"It's okay. Anyways, why was your group here?"

Lucas inquired with a curious tone.

"We had no choice. All of us were hungry and wanted to look for food. Our group has not eaten anything for half a day."

The man replied and continued to talk.

"Even if we found food, there's no water here as well. Maybe, there's a river somewhere."

Lucas nodded as he realized something.

'Water, huh? In that case, there's not that much time. We need to look deeper in this place.'

The father waited for a moment and asked.

“Can we go with your group?”

At these words, the two humans in the back also demanded with pitiful expressions.

“Please, take us with you.”

“We will all die if you leave us.”

Lucas only realized now that these people didn’t have Loops on their wrists. They were still normal.

They probably survived the tutorial out of luck.

“Sure, but with one condition, all of you must follow my words and don’t do anything stupid.”

Lucas agreed with them even though he said before that he will only take the two policemen.

The death of the child had weighed on his mind.

The members of his group had increased by four.

He walked away from them and went to his fellows.

"We have to go. We're all going to die from thirst before hunger if we dally around."

The two men got up from his words.

"Man, you're right! At first I felt hungry. Now, I feel my thirst more than my hunger. How did these monsters survive till now?"

James freely expressed his thoughts.

“Anyways, what’s the time now? I can’t see the sun, but pretty sure it’s not night yet.”

Kelvin talked as he stretched his whole body.

“There should be a way somehow. We need to trail a monster and find where they get water.”

Lucas suggested to his two friends.

“Everyone! We must head out now.”

He said to the four people in the distance.

The group went off along with their new members.
