“Thank you for answering our questions.”

“Do you have anything you’d like to ask us?”

“No.”

“Then please follow that person on the way out.”

She smiled

I got up and followed him out.

“Both of their answers... Were quite interesting, weren’t they?”

“Hah, indeed.”

---

“Sixth question. If you had to choose your life or Leo’s life, which life would you save?”

“Leo’s.”

“Why is that?”

“...”

Rio grasped Spellbreak and closed his eyes before answering.

“...Leo has already saved my life. And has done so much for me. No matter what I do, I don’t think I could repay him. If I could save his life in exchange for mine, I’d do it in a heartbeat...”

“Interesting.”

---

Exiting the building Rio was waiting at the fence.

“Leo!”

“We did it!”

“What?”

“We passed!”
“How do you know?”

“Huh? The judges told us if we exited through this way that means we passed!”

“What?”

What the fuck? That sounded stupid. They haven’t even finished everyone’s applications yet, so how were they so sure to accept us?

“Congratulations to you both.”

The person who led me out started to talk

“Thanks?”

“Oh! You guys probably don’t know me.”

In an instant he changed from an old butler-looking dude to a middle-aged dude.

“I am the vice principle of Heavensward, Eugune Edison.”

What?

“Does the vice principle greet everyone who passes?”

“I do.”

“How have we for sure passed when there's still applicants?”

“There’s not a limit on how much we accept you know.”

“You both passed but we still haven’t decided on what class to assign you to.”

Oh. It was as simple as that. I assumed that only a limited number of people could pass, but I guess that bit me in the ass.

“Could you assign us to the same class?”

“Leo!”

Rio smiled

“Hmm, I don’t know... Someone did say my test was “fucking worthless.””

Rio’s smile faded quickly and instead he looked shocked

“Leo!?”

Oh. Was he petty? Fuck.

“Haha, I’m joking. I’ll consider it. But for now, both of you take this.”

He handed us a piece of paper which had our skills, talents, and a date on it.

“Come to Heavensward on this day.”

“Alright.”

“Yes!”

Rio bowed

The vice principle went back to the judging room while me and Rio started to walk back to the inn.

“Isn’t that great!? We both passed!”

“Yeah.”

“I was so nervous! Your song helped me a lot though Leo! Thank you!”

“No problem.”

“Leo, do you know what ‘Weapon Master’ does?”

“I do. It makes you naturally be able to use all weapons.”

“Does it?”

“Yeah.”

“Isn’t that super strong!?”

Yeah. Like really fucking strong.

“Very.”

Looking at the paper they gave me, it clearly showed my talent, but only two of my skills. ‘Status’ wasn’t written anywhere on the paper. Could the machine not detect it?

We soon arrived back at the inn, when we entered it was dead silent. Even though it was populated.

“...How’d it go?”

Ms. Cloudsly asked

“...”

I looked down towards the ground with a sad look on my face, which caused her to flinch.

“We passed!” Rio suddenly shouted

The inn suddenly became loud with shouting

“Woo!”

“Congrats!”

“We knew you could do it! Leo, Rio!”

“Ah! Don’t scare me like that, kid!” Ms. Cloudsly playfully hit my head

“Sorry.”

It was like a party. For some reason everyone was happy for us. My chest tensed up. I had never had anyone celebrate for me before.

“Thanks.”

“Sing us a song!”

“Yeah!”

“Woo!”

“Haha, Okay.”

I had a smile on my face and so did Rio.

We all had a good time for the next few hours.

---

On the paper the date asked us to come in 2 days. I assume that it meant we have 2 days to pack our shit and get ready, because in Heavensward all students would live on campus.

In the novel Heavensward had a high-class dormitory for each of the classes. It was a truly massive place, there was also a canteen and a gymnasium. It basically had anything you could need except for stores and stuff. We’d have to leave the campus for that.

Me and Rio didn’t have any belongings except for a few pairs of clothes anyway so we didn’t have to worry about that though.

Rio and I finished our daily run, Ms. Cloudsly told him that he didn’t have to work anymore and just to focus on Heavensward.

Was I remembering my own novel wrong? I could’ve sworn that Jennette Cloudsly was a ruthless businesswoman that would even kick out a royal. But seeing her like this just reminded me of a good parent, like the ones I read in manhwa.

Anyways, we had 4 gold left to spend so me and Rio went shopping, I told him to pick out anything he’d like to bring to the academy.

“This looks cool! Doesn’t it Leo?”

“Maybe?”

“Don’t lie! You don’t like it at all!”

“Haha.”

“Hmm.”

We entered an empty store.

Rio seemed to lock his eyes onto a piece of jewelry, it was a silver ring.

“Leo! I want to buy this.”

“Huh? This ring?”

“Yeah!”

I didn’t know he liked jewelry this much, maybe I should get him some rings or something.

“Sure.”

The ring was 2 gold originally, but I was able to haggle him down to 1 gold.

Rio picked up the ring and after we exited the store he started to talk.

“Leo!”

“Hm?”

“This... This is for you!”
He had picked that ring out as a present for me.

Though I bought it? Was this a gift from him or a gift to myself? Well, whatever.

I didn’t know at the time, but I had a big smile on my face.

“Ah, thank you.”

“Do you like it?”

“Hm, it’s my first time receiving a gift.”

“...”

“Yeah, I like it.”

Rio smiled

“Thank you, Rio.”

“Haha!”

I put the ring on my middle finger, and we headed back to the inn.
