Chapter 28: Chapter 27: Escape.

The forest terrain is rough and uneven, making walking or running difficult. The majority of the criminals are already exhausted from running and begin to slow down. Most of them never visited the forest before, because of the danger.

 

To pursue the criminals, the army has been divided into many troops. The soldiers are killing any criminals they come across in the forest. Because the soldiers are wearing military exoskeleton suits, they barely tire while chasing them.

 

Many small drones are scattered throughout the sky. “Sir, our drone has located them in front.”

 

“Everyone move.”

 

“Yes sir.”

 

After chasing the criminal, the soldiers finally see them. The criminal can only run if they want to survive.

 

“Fire!”

 

“Bang!”

 

“Bang!”

 

“Bang!”

 

A bullet pieces through the criminal's back and falls down to the ground.

 

“Run!”

 

Seeing their fallen gang member, the criminal becomes scared and runs faster, but it’s only a matter of time before they all will die. For the criminals are not dead after the first shot the soldier will finish them off by shooting their head or heart. 

 

Liam and Sara have run faster than other members of the Red Cobra group. Liam is a former military soldier because of that he has a lot of stamina. Sara can run faster than him, but decided to match her speed with him.

 

Sara seeing, only two of them left, spoke. “Where are we going?”

 

“I don’t really know, we can only hide in the forest for now.”

 

“How?”

 

“Don’t worry I have entered the military before, I know how survive in the forest.”

 

Sara sighs with relief; she's never been camping before and has no idea how to survive.

 

Suddenly they hear someone screaming from behind. “Boss, help!”

 

“Bang!” After hearing the gun shot, there are no more scream.

 

“We need to run faster.”

 

Sara can see a small drone in the sky. “Should we shoot the drone?”

 

“I can’t do it.”

 

“I can.” Sara said with confidence. She has been training hard using firearms.

 

Hearing that Liam began contemplating what to do. He has seen Sara's shooting skill, but he never sees her shoot any drone before.

 

“Try shooting it.”

 

“Okay.” Sara's senses have also been enhanced as a result of the cruel experiment. That she suffers for a long time inside that secret lab after being kidnapped. Except for her red color eyes that have not return to normal, her body has become healthy thanks to Mr. Sylas.

 

Her red eyes look at the sky and aim her gun at the flying drone. Since she has learned how to use guns, she has been practicing a lot.

 

“Bang!”

All the drones that are near them, have been hit by the bullets and fall down to the ground.

 

Not far from them are the soldiers that control the drones and make a shock face. “Captain, something is wrong, several of our drones have lost contact.”

 

“Everyone slows down and moves with caution. They might have a backup.”

I'm perched on a tree branch, watching everything that happens. My body is being concealed by using an assassin illusion skill. Sara's abilities have been improving, and Liam is skillful for surviving this far. The rest of the Red Cobra group members already died. For me their life don’ts matter.

 

The sky is already darkening, jumping from the tree branch I follow Liam and Sara path. The soldiers after losing their drones begin to move slower and it looks like they are going to regroup with other troops before continuing the pursuit.

 

After running for a long time, the sky has completely turned dark. Liam and Sara decided to rest. Liam already started making fire and found a river to drink. They both try to catch fish but there is none.

 

Sara patted her stomach and spoke. “I am hungry.”

 

“Be patient, tomorrow we will go out of this forest.” Liam also feels hungry; the problem is the one that is carrying the food supply already dead during the chase.

 

Sara's stomach begins to make noise.

 

Hearing that Liam makes a weird face. “I thought before leaving you already eat a lot.”

 

“I am already hungry.” While grumbling. Sara suddenly point her gun at the forest. “Who's there!”

Seeing the hooded figure, Sara's eyes begin to shine. “Mr. Sylas, do you bring any food?”

 

Looking at the hooded figure, Liam is relieved. He no longer needs to worry about the military. He has witnessed Mr. Sylas unusual ability and strength.

 

I throw a protein bar at Sara and Liam, both of them catch it in time. “Eat that first.”

 

“Food.”

 

“Thanks.”

 

While I wait for them to eat, I examine their bodies for any signs of injury. Both are still wearing human face masks to conceal their identities. However, if they are a spy within the group, I am sure the government already has their profile. Fortunately, no one knows my real identity.

 

“Mr. Sylas, what shall we do now?”

 

“For now the Red Cobra group is no more. We need to create a new group”

 

Liam nodded his head. He now has nowhere to go. “I understand.”

 

“We need to leave now.”

 

“Why?”

 

“The soldiers are heading this way, and we have a visitor.” I throw several daggers toward the woods. Shrouded with vital energy the dagger easily pierces the creature body that is hiding near the bushes in the dark.

 

“Rawrrr!” A roar of pain can be heard not far away from them. Following that, a large black figure falls to the ground. They walked closer to reveal a black saber tooth tiger. As blood flows from the beast's wound, the dagger after killing the beast returns to my hand.

 

Sara got curious and went beside the beast to check. “So big.” The beast is the size of a moose and has black fur.

 

Liam beside Sara looked at the beast. “Fortunately, Mr. Sylas can detect the beast if not we will be in danger.”

 

After checking the Black saber tooth tiger, there is no vital energy. For the beast soul energy, my soul absorbs it. “Let's go, this forest is not safe.”

 

Both of them don’t say anything and follow him deeper into the forest.

 

Few hours later a group of soldiers arrive near the campfire.

 

“Captain, should we track them down?”

 

“No, even if they managed to flee it’s hard to survive in the forest.”

 

“Captain, there is something over there.” Not far from their location. The soldier, using their helmet light, can see a large dark figure laying on the ground. 

 

When the captain and other soldiers arrived they saw a Black saber tooth tiger carcass.

 

“The criminals must have shot the beast.”

 

“I don’t think so; the wound is made by a saber.”  On the body of the Black saber tooth tiger there are several stab wounds.

 

The wound reminds the captain of certain incident, when the terrorist kidnaped a group of people in Kaross city. All the terrorists died from a bullets and blade wounds. “Let’s return to the base.”

 

“Yes, sir.”

The following day, large excavators are moving rock and soil at the destroyed mountain. Many tents have been set up near the mountain. Soldiers and multi-leg tanks patrol the area in preparation for an attack.

 

Inside a tent a man wearing a black coat is supervising the excavation site. "Have you discovered anything?"

 

“No sir, we are still cleaning up the rubbles.”

 

“Once you find anything, tell me.”

 

While they are talking a soldier enters the tent. “Sir, we have found the base entrance.”

“Let’s go.” The man wearing a black coat is Vance in disguise. He has many identities inside the federation, one of them is the federation official. Even the Dread organization doesn't know about it.

 

Vance and Chris are the ones who leaked the Dread organization's information. When then Otune government wanted to destroy the terrorist group. After destroying the mountain hideout. Vance have arranged for the military to search the area to make sure the Dread organization leader is dead.

 

The Dread Organization have base and hideout over many galaxies and usually they do not interfere with other dominions. But there are always conflict of interest just like what happened to him. 

 

When Vance is getting nearer to the entrance, he sees a metal door. “Destroy the door and send in the scout robot.” The scout robot is a tracked wheel mobile robot that can be equipped with weapons and can be controlled far away.

 

The ground begins to shake and a few tanks with 6 metal legs like spiders appear, and aim their cannon at the metal door. “Kaboom!” After the door gets destroyed a group of scout robots enter.

 

Some parts of the underground base have already collapsed.

 

“Sir, the scout robot found no one inside the base.”

 

Hearing that Vance knew he was too late, they had escaped.

 

Vance is familiar with the operations of the Dread organization. They will remain silent and consolidate their power before retaliating again. Other Dread organization leaders or terrorist groups, on the other hand, may try to take advantage of this opportunity to exert influence in Otune.

 

“Sir, should we send soldiers inside?”

 

“No one should enter until the investigation is completed and the base self-destruct function is disabled.”

 

Vance intended to ask Mr. Sylas to assassinate the Dread organization's leaders. However, when the Otune government wanted to deal with the Dread organization. He can't afford to pass up this opportunity for revenge. This mission was deemed a failure in the end, and tracking them down after that will be more difficult.
