[20 minutes before current time]

"Oracle, sit-rep?" Damian asked clambering over the school wall, as he perched himself up it, he received a reply, "Hostages, all around the school, head to Mira, she is the closest."

Damian hummed as he climbed lower, "What about the cameras? Can you get access?"

"No, it's all cold," Damian sighed, he was in his school uniform, so he couldn't access his equipment other than the comms plug he always kept on him.

He was going in blind, "Where is father?" he asked, not really caring about the rest of the bat family.

"ETA ten minutes."

"Alright..." He cut off–from the corner of his eyes, he saw men dressed to make them hard to differentiate up toward the walls, they all had guns, "Oracle, thugs are securing the premise. I am going in."

He followed his words, sticking to the shadows as he made his way to the nearest window. Elbowing the wooden lock, he broke in.

The room was a senior classroom. Empty. He peeked out the door, the hallway had one guard in it, normally it should be three. He could take him out. But in such low numbers, they would be doing radio checks frequently. And seeing the man holding the radio like a child, he was sure he was on the money.

The stairway would have guards, that was for sure. It would be stupid not to guard choke points, with all that in mind, he decided that the best way would be scaling the building from the outside.

Retracing his steps he was out the broken window, fixing his hands on the overhang he pulled himself up...

[Current Time]

"Mira, what should we do?" Dina asked me, setting herself just beside me on the floor, we were sitting by the door, leaning against the wall, our knees together. She leaned in on me, and I just looked at her and said, "We wait, we wait for Batman."

"You think he is going to come?" She asked–we had been here for what half an hour? And the moral of my supposed 'meat shields' was already gone.

"Doesn't he always come?" I raised my brow at her as I asked.

"You make him sound like superman," He chuckled, "Yeah, you are right. He always does. Somehow."

I nodded, she was right, he is somehow always there—well, he or one of his apprentices.

"Mira, thank you for saving me," She said as she pulled me into a hug, "We are friends right?" I rebutted, "Yeah. We are friends," she nuzzled herself in, "And thank you for calming me down," I patted her head, "Anytime."

With those words, I closed my eyes, and once again those crystals appeared in the darkness, a seeming condensation of the nebula and the buzzing. Why did I have this power? And more importantly what was it anyway?

My mind wandered back to the survey that I had given, I had refused to create a character in it. And here I still am. Did I anger someone? If I had known I would be here, I would have just given it and made an Uber-broken character...

'If you were to reincarnate into DC how would you do it?' That was the title of the survey right? Fucking godly bullshit.

'I would not,' How much I lament that answer, I could have been so much more, but I am here.

God fucking damn it.

But let's be honest here, I am not angry at those things am I? I had made peace with it a long time ago.

I am angry at my helplessness.

But I have something right? This power—to shape flesh. Yet why does my gut tell me that's not it? More tests are needed to figure this shit the fuck out.

As I had started to fall into the lull of dawn a gentle knocking shook me awake. My eyes snapped to the source. Outside I saw the face of Damian, I tried to scramble to my feet only to stop as I felt the weight of Dina on me.

I shook her awake, as Damian signaled me to hurry up, but I smiled and shook my head, he can continue to hang there for a few more.

"Mira? What?" She murmured as she pushed herself off of me, "Help's here," my words left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth but I pushed it down, "Huh?" Her eyes shot open as I moved toward him, opening the window I stepped aside to let him climb in.

He looked at my smile and helplessly shook his head, his eyes began to survey the room, and his eyes landed on the multiple lead shells, "You seem rather perky for some who's been shot at."

I snorted as my eyes wandered over the room, the children starting to gather around us, "I am perky because I get to see you again."

"So how is the situation?" He asked, "Phones jammed?"

"Yeah, phones receive no signal, and some guy unloaded a whole clip of rounds down that door, no one was hit, thankfully," My eyes gestured towards where the camera used to sit, "I ripped it out."

He nodded, "I saw Batman over the building roof, you'll be fine, I go check up on others," He said as he perched up against the window still once again, I nodded at him, "Be safe."

He stopped himself from jumping as he leaned back into the room, his eyes catching mine, "Don't worry about your 'elder' brother," really? Was the emphasis on elder really necessary?
