Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Farmers Shop and Mountain Climbing

Appearing like a menu you’d see in a video game. I was shown the [FARMERS SHOP].

It had more options for me to select from.

- EXP Bean {Cost: 1}

- Juicy Berry Seed {Cost: 15}

- Wealthy Watermelon Seed {Cost: 20}

On another menu, I was shown the sell price of different things.

- EXP Bean {Sell: 0.4}

- Juicy Berry {Sell: 0.01}

- Wealthy Watermelon {Sell: 40}

It was pretty interesting to look at. Since the EXP Beans produced three beans per plant, I’d be earning 0.2… arbitrary money value points per bean bought. It was pretty inefficient, so I assumed that they were only for gathering experience. 

Just taking a random guess, the juicy berries either grew indefinitely since the EXP beans died after one harvest, or maybe they tasted better? I wouldn’t know until I planted them.

Now the watermelons were pro—

[Travel to the Gram Village] 

Well, at least the next ‘mission’ was assigned to me now. I figured that we’d have to make our way to civilisation of some sort, so this was to be expected. On the ground, a feint red path appeared, leading the way.

Well, at least it’s showing me the way.

Nothing is a given in this weird new world.

I made my way over to Seria.

“Get up. We’re travelling to the village now.”

“H-huh…? Rin? How long has it been.”

“More than twelve hours.”

“Really?! That long?”

“As I said, we’re going to the village.”

“What village?”

“It’s called the Gram Village.”

“That’s a weird name.”

“Don’t tell me. I didn’t come up with it.”

Now that she was conscious, I couldn’t be bothered trying to keep up with her antics. If I walked off, she’d probably follow me. Thus, I began making my way, following the weird red path in the ground.

Realising the situation that she was in, Seria quickly followed behind.

“Hey, hey, how do you know where it is?”

“There’s this weird red line in the dirt.”

“Are you hallucinating? I don’t see anything.”

“I could be, but I’m assuming that this is something that’s pointing us in the direction of it.”

“It better be.”

“Who knows, it could be pointing us to the monsters’ lair.”

“D-don’t joke like that. You’re the reason I’m deathly afraid of them now.”

“The first one we met wasn’t even aggressive.”

“They’re definitely not all going to be that nice!”

Eventually, we were back in the forest, trekking through the uneven, loose terrain littered with tree roots and shrubs. Ducking under branches and manoeuvring through, we eventually managed to get out of the forest. However, this time, the terrain wasn’t flat. In fact, it was the opposite of flat.

It was mountainous. In case you couldn’t tell from my euphemism, there are tall-ass mountains in front of us.

I was probably capable of climbing them without much issue. Seria, on the other hand, was a different story. Just walking through the woods, I was able to see her stamina and strength—it wasn’t great.

“We have to get over this,” I said.

“C-can’t we go around? It’s pretty steep. I don’t think I can get up.”

Well, at least she also recognised her shortcomings.

On the other hand, we needed to figure out a way to get past this area. 

“Let’s just try. I’ll help you up as much as I can… if you can’t keep up, I might just have to leave you behind…”

“Hey! Not this again! I’m your goddess. You need me to check your stats and stuff! You can’t just keep talking about ditching me!”

Tears were forming in her eyes.

“Ah, don’t cry. Fine, I’ll stay with you. But we still need to find a way across this mountain.”

She was still quietly sobbing. I guess I was being a little too mean.

“Let’s just try climbing it. I’ll help you up if you get stuck.”

“O-okay…”

Making my way up the first steep vertical climb, I quickly got to the top of it. As expected, Seria was clearly struggling. Getting a good hold, I got onto my stomach and lowered my hand towards her. 

Holding one of her hands, I pulled her up as she climbed. The teamwork was enough to get her up to the first section. Rinse and repeat a few more times until we reached a very steep point. It was almost ninety degrees. Just for me to get up, it required a pretty large jump before clutching to some shallow holds. 

Luckily, it was the last major obstacle. However, the question was, how was I going to get Seria up it?

Even if I lowered my hand arm the ledge, it wasn’t long enough for her to reach. It required her to make quite a large jump before she’d even be able to grab on. I could already see her smashing her face on the rock if she tried.

“W-what do we do here?” She asked.

“Do you see anything around you that you can use as a step?”

She glanced around.

“There’s a branch, but it’s pretty thin.”

“Just try it.”

She grabbed a long branch off of the ground and leaned it against the wall. It provided a slippery, weak ramp—but a ramp was a ramp. Using it as a foothold, she slowly ascended the side of the rock face. I stretched my arm down as far as I could, reaching towards her.

There was a slip, but she managed to grab onto my hand at the last second.

“—ah!”… splat.

Sadly, there was a little too much momentum, and she slapped right into the side of the mountain. I pulled her up, lifting her limp, frail body to the top.

“Good job! We made it.”

“M-my nose hurts… my chest hurts… my knees hurt…”
