Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Increasing The Pace

"Now before we start let me tell you that though I explained to you a bit about the spirit ribbons earlier it would take you quite a while to master it because it's a very high-level technique. Its only disadvantage is that its use is very specific. With the help of spirit ribbons, you can find out anyone whose spiritual pressure you're familiar with provided they are in the same world as you, which makes it an amazing technique if you want to find someone quickly." Youruichi said and continued  "Though learning it will take time it will help you later on, if you're in trouble you can use these spirit ribbons to search for the nearest soul reaper. I've already told you about the colours of the ribbons so if you see a red one that means it's a soul reaper."

"Did you teach me this technique so that if I'm not strong enough to defend myself in the future I can call for help?" Ichigo asked curiously.

"That's one of the reasons. It's also because it doesn't conflicts with our training programme. I told you to practice sensing your spiritual powers before trying out the spirit ribbons technique and that's something you'll be needing to do no matter what. After you're proficient enough to sense your spiritual powers without even trying then we'll proceed to learn something called kido." Youruichi said.

"Kido!" Ichigo exclaimed though it was taken as a question by Yourichi.

"Yes, Kido is a form of combat based on advanced spell incantations. These spells are quite difficult to master and require one to have efficient control over their spiritual powers. Your spiritual power is very high compared to anyone I've seen in the beginner stage so I believe it would be quite difficult for you to learn it but you shouldn't get discouraged by it and give up midway because as you're aware of it, giving up would only make you die sooner.

"I won't! Just tell me how to improve my ability to sense my spiritual powers quickly.: Ichigo said he wanted to be able to learn Kido as soon as possible because of how mysterious it felt to him when he came to know about it in the anime. He didn't know about most of them because only a few of them were shown on the show but he knew that there were a lot of them and a lot of things he could try doing with their help.

"I like that enthusiasm. Well, how was your experience earlier when you sensed it yourself apart from you discovering your constant emission of spiritual pressure? Youruichi asked him to which he replied "Hmm well, I was only able to do it for a few hours and after that, I couldn't do more even if I wanted to."

"That's quite common for beginners. You'll slowly increase the duration as you get comfortable with it and slowly and steadily being able to feel your spiritual pressure would be like second nature to you. Unfortunately, we don't have that much time so here's what we'll be doing to expedite the process...." Youruichi explained to Ichigo what he would be needing to do in order to increase the pace of his progress.

A few minutes later Ichigo was doing a handstand near a tree with his legs using the tree trunk as support. It had been a while since he had been in this position and his arms were shaking a bit now.

"So you're saying that if I put stress on my body like this while practising then I would be able to become proficient enough to sense my spiritual powers much sooner?" Ichigo asked while gritting his teeth.

"Yes, that's how it is," Youruichi said as she lazed around on the stone nearby and observed him. Ichigo continued on with his struggle of trying to concentrate his mind while trying his best to not think of the strain his arms were going through at the moment. Needless to say, it was quite difficult for him at the start.

Luckily Ichigo's body was strong so he was able to go for more sets after resting for a bit. Finally, after failing seven times he succeeded in calming his mind and focusing on the flow of spiritual pressure out of his body. Though it was only for a brief time it was all Ichigo needed to motivate him to push himself forward. 

He spent the next few hours doing the same thing as instructed by Yoruichi who had long ago left saying that she had some stuff to handle. Ichigo lay on the ground with his back as he heaved for breath. Sweat trickled down his forehead onto the ground making him feel a cooling effect. The sun was shining brightly to the point of making him squint his eyes which indicated that it was already past afternoon now.

Ichigo slowly got up and headed towards his home with his sweat-covered body. His only desire at the moment was to take a bath with cold water and fill his stomach after that. After reaching home Ichigo did exactly that. By the time he freshened up his sisters were already back from school. After a while, they all sat at the table and had a meal. 

"So how did your talk with that young lady go?" Isshin asked Ichigo.

"It went well," Ichigo replied not flustering even a bit.

"Just what I expect from my son. Though she's not comparable to your mother she's still a beauty." Isshin says before going back to eating his food.

Karin and Yuzu's curiosity was piqued by this and Yuzu couldn't help but ask "Dad what girl are you talking about? Did Oniisan finally get a girlfriend?" Karin also adjusted her ears to listen carefully to what her father had to say.

"What does it have to do with you? You, girls, are too young to know about such matters between men." Isshin said and gave Ichigo a nod indicating that he got his back. Ichigo couldn't help but feel weirded out by this and was left speechless.

"Why are you acting like it's a matter between men when you're just an old man." Karin said in her rude tone making Isshin depressed as he ran towards Masaki's portrait and asked " Masaki it's only you who loves me now. Even our daughter calls me old now...sigh"

Seeing his actions they all were left speechless having nothing else to say. Ichigo quickly finished his food and then went upstairs.
