Ah, the library. A place where knowledge in its written form is gathered and stored. I pass this place on a daily basis without really thinking twice about it because we have access to the internet, so the library is usually used by the people who need reference books or just a quiet environment to study. So today I will be going with the second option due to a certain someone.

Today is a free day for all the year ones. Well, truthfully, it is a free day for just class 1-4 as we were given a day off to prepare for the upcoming penalty examination.

I was dressed in my usual school uniform minus the school bag as I approached the library. It was surprising hot for the middle of October, so I was actually sweating for once.

All I could think about was that refreshing air condition which was in the library. Before I could enter the building, I noticed something to my left.

It wasn't something but someone.

Completely training my eyes in that direction now. I saw that it was Kaori Murata sitting under the shade of a large tree with a book open on her lap.

I admit I am a bit curious now, so I walked towards her.

For some reason, she didn't notice me approaching. Was it because she was too engrossed in her activity, or am I just part ninja?

I finally made my way to her.

"Your name is Kaori Murata, right?"

Her entire body jerked upwards. I could tell she became startled for a second.

She answered, "Yeah I am and you're Dante Sato right?"

"Yeah, that's correct. So why are you studying by yourself?"

She paused for a second and then placed a light purple bookmark on one of the pages before closing the book.

"Well, I had a group but it didn't really work out."

"Let me guess you were so shy that you didn't contribute anything towards the study, so they left you out to dry."

Kaori clutched her book tightly. "How did you know that?"

I looked down at her, "It's something I would have done if somebody wasn't being a useful component to the machine we were trying to construct."

"You know, you seem like a totally different person when you're alone than in class."

I pulled my phone from out of my pocket and said, "I see, but studying by yourself isn't the most effective way to maximize your learning."

Kaori got up from her seated position and placed her book into her brown side bag. "Well, I don't really have another group I can just automatically be a part of."

I stopped and thought about it for a few seconds.

"Hmm, I am heading to the library to study a bit with Minori Takeda. You are welcome to join."

She hesitated a bit when she heard me mention Minori Takeda.

Maybe she is just timid, so a person like Minori may put her on edge.

"Well, Minori really isn't a scary person when you get to know her."

Minus the parts where she scares me just a bit at times.

Kaori pondered about it for a moment before she agreed.

"Ok, great, then let's head over there. She is probably already annoyed due to my obvious lateness."

Both Kaori and I made our way into the library.

Entering the library now, the blast of refreshing cool air hit me like a truck.

My battle with the sun came to an end with the sun beating me 1-0. Maybe I should carry an umbrella next time. Will that make me look weird?

The first step to entering the library was showing the first librarian, who was stationed right after the entrance, our student IDs.

I believe it is a safety precaution used by the school to limit the institute's resources to just students, employees, and occasionally guests.

After doing that, we were allowed to fully enter.

We stepped foot inside the massive internal structure of the building. I observed the many rows of book shelves and the two different stairwells that led to the second floor of the building, from which I assume that the second floor has almost the same number of book shelves, maybe even less.

There were always many tables spread out. tables for a single person, tables for a pair, and tables for a large group.

Observing some more, I haven't spotted Minori yet.

Instead of playing a game of Where's Waldo. I elected to call her cell phone.

After four rings, she answered in an annoyed voice.

"Where you are?"

I looked around while still on the phone. "I believe the real question is, where are you?"

Minori sighed, "I am right over here."

I finally spotted her and hung up the phone.

"Well there she is," I said to Kaori as we made our way over there.

A couple of moments later, we were at Minori's table.

Her facial expression remained unchanged as she noticed Kaori, "You must be Murata, right? Dante didn't tell me that we would be having an additional person."

I looked at Minori, who was looking back at me.

With my eyes, I was telling her to be nice and with her eyes, she was telling me to give her a heads up.

As this silent conversation raged on between us, Kaori stood there awkwardly.

"I hope this isn't an issue."

Minori finally broke eye contact with me and said, "Oh no, it's fine. The more minds, the merrier. "

So the both of us took our seats and we prepared to study.

We were told that the exam consisted of two sections: a Mathematics section and an English section.

Each section is worth fifty marks each, so the student who gets last place may be random after all. Especially if you're good at English, you can try your hardest in that section, then scrap some marks in your weaker section, and vice versa, if your strong subject is Mathematics.

All three of us cracked open our books and were about to start.

When suddenly, we were interrupted.

"Ugh, this is too hard!" exclaimed a male voice.

Who’s the idiot yelling in this place of silence?
