The day of reckoning has arrived.

*Clears Throat*

Dun Dun Dunnnnnnn The Finals.

I felt a sense of acceptance knowing my fate and I walked closer to it with a smile on my face.

Maybe not a smile, but you get what I am saying right?

I am already in the hallway which leads to my classroom.

The time is 8:45am and we commence the exams at 9am.

Enough time to make it to my seat and settle in comfortably.

The classroom today serves as an academic nightmare for me, literally question based suicide if I don't score at least 80%.

As I opened the door to the classroom. A random quote came into my mind.

"This ends here! You will not leave this place alive!" ~Jonathan Joestar

Yeah that's right. Even walking into my impending doom, I just quoted something from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Anyway, even the tiniest amount of scheming to avoid this, would just be wasted time.

You know why?

*Clears throat again*

"Jojo, being human means having limits. I've learned something. The more carefully you scheme, the more unexpected events happen." ~Dio Brando

Well look at that. I just quoted Jojo's Bizarre Adventure again and, there's nothing anyone can do about it.

These are my inner monologues so deal with it.

Muahahahaha

Okkk, that's enough of that. Now back to the finals.

Everyone sat in their respective seats and were eager to take the examination.

That extra 20% will come in handy during future examinations when they are being tested on their weaker subjects.

I walked across the classroom and took my seat.

The time is 8:50am.

Ten minutes until the gates of valhalla slowly creak open to claim my soul.

Our classroom door swung open and in walked Miss Aiko holding the packet of test papers.

She has the same usual calm expression on her face and then quickly took her seat.

She didn't say anything for a few minutes but kept continuously checking her wrist watch which is on her left arm.

Counting down the time I see.

I calmly placed all my writing materials on the desk and stretched my arms.

Minori observed my behavior and said, "Well don't you look relaxed. Are you planning on getting the bonus 20%?"

I pondered about it and replied, "I am not sure that I'll be able to. After all, everyone here is prepared to go to war for those top 10 spots."

Still keeping the same cold expression on her face, "In other words, you're just being lazy and planning on scoring as average as possible on this exam."

"When you put it like that, you make me sound like some delinquent who doesn't care about his grades."

She gave me a sidelong glance, "I am starting to think that you're not serious about this school."

I sighed, "Where is that coming from?"

"Hmm let's see. You rarely pay attention in class, you also ditch study sessions and last but not least, you infrequently assist the class during the clashes. You have the tools to lead but yet you refuse to. What motivates you Dante?"

I turned my head to the left and looked out of the classroom window.

"Not pleasure, not glory, not power: freedom, only freedom."

With a slight bit of confusion on her face, "Huh? What does that mean?"

"Fernando Pessoa. He was a Portuguese poet and writer."

"So you're telling me that, you came to this school only for freedom?"

Still looking out of the window and observing a few students, walking in the direction of the upper classes.

"At first, that's what I wanted but I quickly realized in order to achieve that. I needed a peace of mind and a peaceful environment.Vexingly enough there are a few obstacles here, which prevent me from fully having those things. The class clashes aren't really an issue but unfortunately, there are individuals that I can't escape from, because they can easily influence my surrounding environment. However, that will not stop me from trying to enjoy a normal school life."

Minori became silent when she heard that.

"Oh."

Our grim conversation is cut short by Miss Aiko standing up.

"Ok class 1-4. The time is 9am, the finals will commence very shortly. You know the traditional rules. If I notice, any of you even slightly breaking a rule. I will duck 30% from your final grade. That's how serious, the institute takes their traditional exams. After all, you're here in order to be molded into exceptional individuals that can contribute positively to society. If you can't, follow the rules then prepare to suffer the consequences."

Hmm. I am not sure if society can be changed at all due to the people in it. Even if you send a few expectional individuals, they will just get swallowed up by the negatives and converted.

It would take a massive movement to even get the ball rolling.

In order to properly reshape society in the way you desire it to be, you need to start from scratch.

Reshaping society in a positive way is also a pipe dream along with world peace.

The issue with world peace is, that as long as multiple humans exist on earth, there will always be conflict. Even if, there is only one person left. He/she may start to fight with themselves. Conflict is and will always be part of human nature.

Miss Aiko then began to distribute the exam papers to each student.

I received my exam paper after a minute or so and observed it.

Firstly, holding the paper between my left index and thumb finger, I felt the thickness of the exam.

It is actually a lot more thicker than any written exam, we had received so far.

If I had to guess, I would say 10-11 pages.

"Ok, class you may now begin."

I decided to count the pages and I was actually close with my guess.

The accurate amount is 12 pages.

Flipping through the exam, there were questions on the front and back of each page, inclusive of the last one.

They didn't hold back at all during this exam.

Most of the questions are chain questions, so you needed to answer the first question in order to move onto the next question.

Pretty redundant after the first 3 pages. However, you needed to pay closer attention to your answers, because one incorrect answer will ruin the entire chain and your chances of passing drops faster, than an anvil falling on the head of a animated coyote.

The last 4 pages, requires extensive workings on how you arrived at your answer. Which can be equally as annoying as the chain questions because it may take you 3-4 minutes to properly write it down.

However, the thing that surprised me the most, would be the absence of multiple choice questions. Did they purposely leave it out?

Maybe, they just wanted to ensure that the students actually earned their grades by hard work and not by randomly guessing an answer from A-D.

Hmm. I should begin my exam, we only have an hour and 30 minutes. I'll most likely be done before that.

I wonder what I'll be having for dinner.

Focus Dante focus. Stop thinking about food and just get the exam over with.

45 minutes later

I was done with my exam.

I observed the room and noticed that everyone is still writing.

Sigh. Here we go again, the awkwardness of being the first one to hand in your paper.

I quietly got up from my desk and packed my writing materials back into my bag.

After I ensured that I didn't leave anything behind, I placed my bag on my back and slowly walked towards Miss Aiko's desk.

I could feel the side glances from some of my classmates but I ignored it.

After a few moments, I was face to face with Miss Aiko who took my paper and said, "Done already? Did you rechecked your answers?"

I squinted my eyes at her.

This dang lady has not once been a concerned teacher, and now she's magically asking if I double checked my answers. Is this an attempt to mess with me?

I replied through my gritted teeth, "Why yes Miss Aiko. I surely double checked my questions. Thank you for your concern."

She smiled at me.

I noticed someone standing by the classroom door which is slightly ajar.

Oh. It's one of those exam monitors that go from class to class to make sure there aren't any issues. He must have been observing our interaction.

Wait a moment...

This lady just faked being a friendly teacher in front of the exam monitor.

He still stood by the door. I gave Miss Aiko a deadpan expression and she continued to smile warmly at me.

I'll admit that she's a great actor.

Shortly, after the exam monitor left and the fake smile faded from her face.

In her usual uninterested tone of voice, "Alright, you can scram now."

Ah now there's the teacher I know.

"You don't say?"

After that, I left the classroom.
