It was four days later and Hiyori was sitting at home, on her couch, covered in a thick blanket, watching the TV while she was scooping up chocolate cereal from a bowl of hot milk. The only light in the dark room came from the TV screen while she was watching a classic sci-fi movie called Warring Stars: A Fresh Hope, a movie she had not watched since 6 years old. Since she came back home she found herself revisiting a lot of shows and movies from her childhood, memories that came back flooding now, from the back of her mind. She only left her flat when she had to go to the store, besides that she was downloading movies and series, one after another, playing them on her TV, sinking into a nostalgia trip, barely even sleeping. Yet the bags under her eyes now were accompanied by an honest smile, feeling happy and content, finding herself back in a time when nothing really bothered her. She almost felt like her father was there with her, introducing her to his own favorite films, hoping Hiyori would get hooked on them just as he did when he was a child! While she was enjoying the movie, suddenly her doorbell rang, shaking her up as she spilled some of the now chocolate milk on herself yet it did not bother her. Quickly patting it down, putting the bowl onto her little coffee table, she climbed off of the couch with an expectant look in her eyes, hoping the visitor is who she thinks it is!

“C-coming!” shouted while climbing out from the multiple, wrapped around blankets, only keeping one around her thin body as under it she only wore a loose panty. Arriving at the door with quick steps, standing up on a small stool she managed to look out the peephole, squinting as best as she could. It was too dark to see the figure on the other side, especially because there was no lighting outside, broken a long time ago, making her now a bit uncertain about who had come. She almost started to feel fear but then the man on the other side spoke up.

“It’s me.” said a familiar voice as she hurriedly opened up the locks and the door, finally meeting with Everlong after these long days. The cold air immediately pushed inside, sucking out the warmth as winter had already come and it was snowing heavily for days by now.

“Come in!” stepped out of the way as he walked inside, shaking off the snow from his coat, taking it off while looking around the small apartment. Hiyori was clearly excited as she closed the door, hurrying back, towards the tiny kitchen of hers “Want something?”

“Something warm sounds good!” chuckled, hanging up his clothes, taking off his shoes and walking in, watching her, still ‘wearing’ a puffy blanket as clothing.

“Is coffee good?”

“Sure!” nodded while his eyes scanned everything, landing on the TV in the end. “Oh, I know this! I saw it in theaters when it came out!”

“Really?! Geez… I bet it was awesome!” sighed, imagining it and remembering how her own father told her about his own experience about it as a kid.

“It was… something! That is for sure! I always liked movies and it was unique, at least back in the days! I heard there are already two sets of continuation to the original trilogy?” asked as he was out of the loop for a lot of things.

“There is a prequel trilogy, I saw the first two in the cinemas, my Dad took me when they came out! It was awesome!  The third one was about to come out and we were to go and see it when… You know…” sighed, shaking her head, ousting the more depressing thoughts quickly. “I don’t know the rest, I was really not in the mood to check them out. Maybe I will watch them now, that I feel much better!”

“I’m glad to hear you are feeling better~” smiled Everlong “And as I see, the days went with a long movie marathon, eh?” turned back towards her, nodding towards the dozens of empty junk food containers and remains of microwaved food everywhere.

“Ugh… well… yeah…” nodded, feeling really embarrassed, realizing she was showing her own place to him, presenting it as a pigsty at the moment.

“Ahaha, don’t be ashamed! Sometimes my own office can look like this! But have you ever slept? Your eyes are still baggy and I think the dark circles have even grown bigger!”

“I did! Here and there!” chuckled, pouring out the freshly brewed coffee, filling the room with its refreshing aroma. Bringing it to him she had a truly happy and content smile on her face. “Sugar? Cream?”

“No, I like it natural~” thanked her with a nod, taking it away “You look better than I expected. More than half of the people who go through what you did fail to readjust to normal life for months or years.”

“I thought about it then came to the conclusion that if I don’t dwell on it, it won’t bother me much!” smiled again, sipping on her own cup, leading Everlong to the couch. She hurriedly threw the blankets off, swiping the remains of empty paper plates and letting him sit before she plopped down next to her, looking embarrassed once again.

“Sweep it under the mental rug, huh? Well, if it works for you, I won’t argue with you about it!” shook his head “Also coming up here, I smelled your neighbor’s place… It is rare to find a demon out here, living not on official Asylum grounds!”

“Oh, you mean Troduc?” asked Hiyori, nodding, showing she knew about him “I met with him not long ago. I was surprised but he looked like an okay guy!”

“Troduc? That weasel lives here? Hah!” laughed out loudly Everlong, surprising Hiyori.

“You know him?”

“Sure do!” sipped from his coffee with another chuckle “He is harmless as far as demons go! He is an odd one, always were, he is more interested in humans than human souls! He may nibble on some fucked up person’s here and there but we usually turn the other way when that happens.”

“Really….?” twitched her eyelids a little. “And… we?”

“I’m just a detective, there are some really big agencies that do the same thing as I am in the world!” explained with a few words but not going into much detail before continuing “Don’t worry, he is more interested in collecting human reliquias than anything else! Plus the best smuggler I know about, a lot of things I procure comes from him! Anyway, he won’t hurt you, especially if he knows that you are with me!”

“He looked afraid of you when I mentioned your name!”

“I hope so! I busted his balls a few times when he ripped me off!” chuckled, gulping down the rest of the coffee “I made sure he won’t try it again!”

“Bully…” murmured Hiyori but then laughed out softly. “Everlong, can I ask some questions?” pulled her legs under her blanket, looking up at him.

“Sure, I expected you to do so!” nodded, leaning back with a relaxed expression. “If you want to be a good detective, you have to ask questions~ So hold nothing back, I will answer those that I can and tell you no if you ask about something that you should not yet know about!”

“Oh… so… there are things I can’t know about?”

“For now, no, you can’t.” replied, looking into her eyes “Your mind needs tempering first! I speak from experience… When I was thrust into this life I saw things I could not comprehend. If you would have met me around a 100, a 120 years ago, I would be a very, very different person than now…”

“Really? What kind of man?” asked curiously but she did not expect his answer that also sounded like a warning.

“A monster.” said, not averting his eyes, speaking with honesty “Someone who the demons called a demon…”
