Hiyori was looking around with wide eyes and it was hard for her to believe what she was seeing. Her new home was at the topmost, 14th floor of a tall building complex, already furnished with everything she would ever need. She was standing in the middle of the spacious living room with an open kitchen and a door leading to her own balcony. She was watching the sunset outside and how the thick snowflakes falling downwards were sparkling as small diamond-like tears of the sky. Not to mention she finally had her own bathroom with a giant corner bathtub and a bedroom with such a humongous bed, it would be enough for four of her!
“Should I even ask how much this would cost?” turned towards Everlong, who was smiling, letting her look around.
“Nothing in fact. I was the main investor in building the apartment complex. 40% of the rent here directly comes to me and I own the topmost floor. My own flat is on the opposite side.” pointed behind him, through the now closed front door. “So if something happens or you need something just knock! For now I’ll let you relax, watch TV or something!”
“Can I buy a phone? Or a laptop?” asked Hiyori, before he could leave.
“You can, but you can’t bring them to work!” nodded after a brief thought.
“Should I buy you one too?” smiled, hearing his answer.
“For me?” raised his eyebrows, not really getting why that would be necessary.
“Ease of access! What if you have to go somewhere? And I need to reach you? It is the fastest possible way! You can’t stay in the ‘60s!”
“I would not bring it with me if I go investigating a case.” replied, thinking about that immediately.
“I’m not talking about work!” replied, adamant in her idea, placing her hands on her waist, putting her foot down. “If you are not familiar with current day tech, you are going to be left behind!”
“Haaah… sure, surprise me!” shook his head with a smile, unable to refute her logic “I don’t see the point in it but I won’t say no without trying it out.” shrugged. “Do as you wish. But one thing!” raised his index finger.
“Yes?” tilted her head Hiyori, already happy that he permitted it.
“Buy the top of the line model! I’m not interested in fiddling around with inferior products, that would just annoy me and when I lose interest I could not be bothered to spend time with it!”
“Ahaha, okay! Sure!” laughed Hiyori, nodding rapidly “I’ll get a nice pink one for you!”
“Fine by me.” smiled Everlong, surprising her as she was expecting him to react differently, letting her tease him a little. “What?” grinned the man, seeing through her “I once had a pink convertible Pimpala from the ‘60s! Do you think I would be embarrassed by a pink phone?” came closer, leaning forward as he flicked her forehead “I own that color, girl~”
“Tsk… okay…” clicked her tongue, rubbing her forehead.
“Rest! You have a few days to just… have fun!”
“Why? What is going to happen in a few days?” asked, curious and a bit nervous, hearing him say like that.
“Hopefully nothing and only Troduc coming back with his side of the bargain.”
“About that… What are you buying from him? Can you tell me?”
“A scale from a snake. Let’s not elaborate on it for now.” smiled, watching her and thinking as long as her mind is not reinforced more and her personality is not strengthened the less secrets she knows the safer she would be.
“A scale from a snake…” murmured, looking into Everlong’s eyes, going through multiple ideas, surprising him. It was also showing on his face as he raised his eyebrow, seeing Hiyori’s eyes twinkle for a moment “And what about the Quill?”
“It is an artifact from an angel, from one of the messengers of God. It was used to write up a Writ of God!"
“Woah, woah, wait… so… it is something a real angel… used?!” gawked Hiyori.

“Yep, when there is a declaration from the Christian God, one of his angels writes down his words, comes forward, reading it out loud and putting it in effect. This particular Writ is a famous one, because it was condemning Mammon after causing a major incident in the world.”
“Which one?”
“The Black Friday.” answered immediately.
“No way…!”
“Yep!” shook his head “Anyway he was ‘reprimanded’ for his machinations, almost throwing the world back into a 2nd Great War! Which, honestly, meant jack all. But! The quill that the Writ was written with ended up in my hands.” smiled mysteriously “For most demons it is a worthless item, even dangerous! It was held by an angel, recording God’s words! If you are a demon you would not want to touch it or be near it!”
“Then… why?” furrowed her brows Hiyori “You said Troduc is a demon of Mammon! It should be extremely effective against him, no?”
“Exactly!” nodded, waiting for her to think it through.
“He wants to kill Mammon with it?” asked with an unsure voice, making Everlong laugh out loudly, turning her face bright red.
“No, no, that would be a fruitless endeavor!” rubbed her head, making a mess out of her hair “But that was cute~ Also, not a wrong train of thought, you just overshot it! Troduc’s most dangerous enemies are his old, let’s just say, colleagues! He betrayed Mammon and came here to live his life free of their will! If they ever get their hands on a traitor demon, it would be a massacre.”
“And it would be a perfect weapon against them!” lit up her eyes immediately.
“Now you are getting it~ Everything has its weakness. You just need to find it!”
“What is yours?” asked, without thinking, quickly covering her mouth, trying to gulp her own words back but it was too late “No need to answer! I didn't mean it that way!”
“I know.” nodded with a reassuring smile, caressing her face before letting her go as he left her there, closing the door to her apartment after leaving.
“Damn! Stupid! Stupid girl! Ughhh!” pulled on her own hair Hiyori, after she was left alone. “Your freaking mouth is going to be the end of you! Asking such a dumb question!” groaned, squatting at place, slapping her own face.

……
Far away, back in Sapporo, Sheby was sitting on her couch, flipping a shiny coin between her fingers. It was completely golden, one side of it as smooth as a mirror, reflecting back her own image while the other had the symbol of an eye on it. She only heard about this heavenly currency, a tangible form of a wish. There were rumors amongst demonfolk, that a coin like this could mean their redemption, even granting them ascendance into the heavenly plane!
“That has to be an exaggeration…” murmured to herself but to her own horror, a foreign voice answered.
“It is not.” echoed the chuckle in her flat and even if she was a demon she felt petrified.
She couldn’t move and just sat there, holding the golden coin in her hands. Only her eyes were capable of darting left and right, scanning the dark home of hers. She immediately knew something was off as the darkness was tangible, obscuring everything, swallowing it slowly but surely and soon nothing else remained but she and her couch. A black, misty hand rose out from the emptiness, running its cold fingers up her arms, caressing her face in the end, whispering into her ears.
“It is true that a wish from God could grant salvation to everyone, even to a Prince! But do you think his excellency’s grace would fall into the hands of a demon like you? Don’t be silly!” laughed gently and Sheby felt like a wet but cold tongue licking her ear “Still, this could be useful, even if it is from a lesser ranked angel. She could still be useful to your wretched, weakened form.”
“I can… give it… to you…” replied Sheby, pressing air out from her lungs, forcing the words through her teeth while multiple other, shadowy hands were pressing her into place, almost choking her out..
“I don’t need it. Why would I need an angel’s grace? You make my stomach turn, goat…” answered immediately and Sheby felt the cold, multitude of fingers sinking into her flesh, running through her insides, probing her very soul. She had no power to resist and could only hope she would survive this. It lasted for a few seconds only yet it sapped all of her energy and she was left at the brink of death, unable to formulate any, cohesive thoughts. “This is going to be tricky…” murmured the shadowy figure, receding into the darkness, bringing it away with himself “I did not expect the Traitor to be involved…”
