“Want something?” asked Everlong, turning towards the cabinet beside the only window to the room, opening it up and showing it to her as it was filled with dozens of different liquors and drinks.

“No… thank you, I’m good…” answered, with a bit of hesitation, because she knew it would turn bland on her tongue only after a sip or two.

“You sure?” chuckled, still getting out a second glass, pouring out a little, light-brown colored, creamy liquid. “It’s Ethiopian coffee liquor! Pretty nice if I say so myself~” smiled, putting it on the table, signaling for her to sit.

“Just a sip then…” whispered, finally taking it, tasting it, feeling its richness for a brief moment and just as she thought, turning completely bland, losing all of its effects.

“Interesting…” whispered Everlong, also sitting down, leaning forward and watching her, resting his chin atop of his hands.

“You are quick to give children alcohol!” said Hiyori, trying to ease the weird situation with a joke.

“Your eyes.” replied, tapping the edge of his, while looking into Hiyori’s. “No child would have this kind of look inside of them. Whatever your age is, you are no longer a kid…”

“You could say that twice…” murmured, looking away in the end, smiling with a really hurt expression. “Are you a psychologist?” asked in the end, recollecting herself.

“Nope! I have zero formal education!” gave an answer that almost made her choke on her own saliva. “What? Do I need a paper to be good at what I am doing? Not that anyone would give me one!”

“And what are you doing?” asked without thinking about it.

“What, the advert did not say?” asked back immediately.

“Not really! You should specify a bit more in it!”

“Then why are you here?” chuckled, hearing her responses and tone, realizing if not for her circumstances she would be a pretty snappy little girl!

“Ugh… I don’t know…” averted her gaze once again, caught off guard with that question.

“Maybe you were sent here. To me~” leaned back in his chair, smiling at her but Hiyori just took it as a joke, shaking her head.

“It's not like you could help me. I may have been just-”

“I can.” cut in Everlong and his voice was calm and confident, still watching her with a smile.

“Y-you… can?” froze in place by that simple statement.

“Let me demonstrate it for you!” nodded before his eyes wandered a bit upwards and Hiyori felt he was looking behind her instead at her.

“Get out.” opened her mouth, speaking with a much deeper, commanding voice. The warm, cozy air in the room turned much more colder immediately, making Hiyori’s body turn stiff. Even if she was not willing to admit it, she was now terrified and by the force of his voice alone she almost soiled herself just then and there. “I said…” spoke again, his face losing the smile as he was watching clearly behind Hiyori “Get. Out.” She did not know who he was talking to! Behind her the only thing that could have been there was the backrest of her chair! Yet she dared not to turn her head, sitting there trembling like a child.

It took almost a minute but the coldness left the room and Everlong’s eyes returned to her the same time as his smile did. He just stood up, pouring more into Ren’s cup. He walked out from behind his desk, picking it up and placing it in her hand as she crouched down before her as an adult would act with a child, handing her a cup of warm milk after a bad nightmare.

“Drink it…” whispered.

“B-b-but… it's n-no use…” stuttered, just returning to reality, realizing something really weird had happened just now! Seeing the look in his eyes she could not refuse anymore in the end. Raising it to her mouth, taking a sip she expected it would be nothing but a bland, tasteless liquid, pouring down her throat, making her sick. Yet it was not… for the first time since more than a decade, she could taste it fully! The rich aroma, traveling through her nose, soaking her taste buds, flowing down her throat, everything was there! She completely failed to control herself, emptying the cup completely, almost starting to lick it clean as her tears were pouring down from her eyes, soaking her face. “W-wha… how…?!” asked with a trembling voice, barely finding the words.

“You have been cursed, Hiyori.” answered, watching her calmly, letting her let out the bottled up feelings inside. “It is not gone, I just sent the thing attached to you out of this room for the moment. It is not permanent.”

“...” She had no answer for his words, she wanted to ask so many things but it felt pointless. No matter how strange she felt all of this was, she accepted his explanation. Completely, without hesitation as watching his eyes, she already knew he was not lying!

“The problem is, to lift this curse it has to be identified, researched and then we can work on eliminating it. Using brute force is only the last resort option!” said, stretching, standing up and leaning against his table. “That can easily backfire or make things worse! So for now I need to research you a little, then we can get to the root of the problem and solve it once and for all!”

“You can… help me?” asked, her voice thin, trembling and barely audible. In fact, he did not even hear her just read her lips.

“Of course! It is my job! The advert did not mention it?” asked, tilting his head “I am Detective Everlong, paranormal specialist!”
