Troduc was watching the rolled up paper in Everlong’s hands, feeling his eyes sting and his body tremble.
“Is that…” asked, not even finishing his question, already knowing the answer just from the feeling, emanating from it.
“Yeah, in its fullest. A Writ of God.” nodded Everlong with a faint smile “Why are you so worried? It is already a used item, little of its strength remains if any!” pinched the end of the feather with one hand easily and before even pulling on it to unfurl the letter the demon shouted at him.
“Don’t open it!”
“Pussy.” stopped Everlong, waving it in his grip “So? What now big boy? Are we making the trade or not?”
“Seal it away first! I’m not touching it raw! You want to kill me or something?!”
“Your mouth says no but your eyes are aflame with the fires of greed.” stepped forward the detective, walking up to him until there were only a few meters between them. “Bring out your container demon, I know you brought one! I’ll give the feather to you while you give me the scale!”
“...” Troduc said nothing for a few moments, his eyes darting between the letter, the feather and Everlong. In the end he summoned a thick, sizable black box, made out of wood that looked like something you salvaged from a house fire. Kicking it open his eyes were once again fixated on Everlong’s figure.
“I knew you would come prepared.” smirked the detective, pinching the feather’s end once again, making the huge figure of Troduc tense up. Smoke started to rise from his pores, surrounding himself with a yellowish, foul smelling mist. “Even my inexperienced partner here has bigger balls than you!” snorted Everlong, as he let go of the letter, containing God’s words, holding only the end of the feather, between his fingers.
It slowly unfurled by itself and for Hiyori’s surprise, the dimly glowing parchment only fell a few centimeters, before stopping in the air, slowly floating there. From where she stood, she could not make out the writings on it, but she could see they were golden in color and emitting a strange, faint aura of power. Everlong ignored the demon before him who was snarling and growling like a rabid dog, chased into a corner. He unceremoniously placed the feather into the box, before retrieving the rest of the pergamen.
“I’m running out of patience, demon.” echoed Everlong’s voice, strong and cold, throughout the mountain range. “Give. Me. My. Item.”
“Put the letter in the box too!” answered Troduc, with a salivating sickness radiating from his words. His voice came from everywhere at that moment, rising from the ground, alongside with the sulfur smelling smoke trails.
“Oh?” raised his eyebrows Everlong but there was no real surprise in his blue eyes. “You are still a demon of Mammon, alright.” whispered as his right hand moved.
Hiyori, watching Everlong’s, until that moment, unshaken hand behind his back flinch and start to move, she immediately activated the artifact, hidden in her glove, forming a creamy-white bubble around her body in a millisecond. It alerted Troduc instantly, wanting to flee but his greed was anchoring his legs in place. Seeing how Everlong’s right hand came into sight, gripping the revolver, he couldn’t help but gulp.

“No deal.” answered Everlong with an even chillier tone than the winter night’s wind.
His aim was already locked onto his target and letting go of the hammer, pulling back on the trigger a shot was already on its way. Troduc, without a hesitation, dropped the ‘vase’ in his hand, reaching forward. It was a movement not to protect his body but to protect his box, because Everlong’s target was not him in the first place! When the revolver’s muzzle flashed, releasing a roar of a dragon, accompanied by white fire that came forward in all directions, as something incredibly bright traveled through the air, heading directly at the open black box, containing the feather of his.
Troduc’s giant hands reached it just before the bullet, closing it down, sweeping it up, and turning tail, literally. When Everlong’s shot hit its new target, it clawed through the mist surrounding him with ease, landing on the back leg of Troduc. The demon cried out in pain, screaming so strongly and in such a deep voice, Hiyori thought her eardrums were going to burst. Ignoring the pain, the red devil kicked out, fleeing with his box, clutched between his hands. He thought about swiping up the dropped vase, but just as the thought ran across his mind another roar came from behind, making him release green fires from his body, blocking the bullet, heading towards his back.
The resulting explosion shook the mountain, kicking up mud, rocks and blowing out trees. Hiyori was unable to stay still, thrown to her back, rolling backwards a few meters, catched by not strong arms of a man but by a hard, thick log. When she finally stopped her spinning head from giving her sea sickness, getting to her feet, muddied up from head to toe, she needed a few seconds to blink away her double vision.
“Did he escape?” asked, stumbling forward, watching Everlong and the swirling smoke not that far away. He slowly lowered his hand, looking around with alerted eyes, remaining vigilant while giving his answer.
“He did.” nodded, walking up to the vase, half buried by dirt and small rocks but completely unharmed. He grabbed it not by hand, but by wrapping the unnatural paper of his around it. Hiyori was about to arrive next to him when she was thrown to her butt again, landing hard as a small shockwave came from the vase itself. Her barrier was at its limit by then, shattering like glass breaking apart as the vase released the stench of sulfur, accompanied by a sizzling sound. It was burning and not just the blue vase itself but the pergamen around it too. “You are way too predictable, Troduc!” chuckled Everlong.
“A trap?” groaned Hiyori, standing up, rubbing the bottom of hers.
“There is always a trap when you deal with demons.” nodded as a response, watching the demon’s container finally break apart, destroying itself, alongside the Writ too. What remained was nothing else but the scale, dropping unceremoniously onto the ground.
“How beautiful!” gawked Hiyori with great surprise as the little, guitar pick sized item was silver in color and as light shone on it, bluish and purple streaks glimmered off of its surface, looking like some rare, holographic trading card.
“It is a scale from a greater demon, a general of Leviathan who died in the War in Heaven.” crouched down Everlong, watching it.
“Shouldn’t we go?” gulped Hiyori, looking around, acting as a guard, holding her finger on the remaining artifact, hidden under his glove, ready to use as soon as a demon shows up. She was sure Troduc was here, greedily watching them, waiting for a moment to strike and get back his treasure… and she was not wrong.
He was still in the shadows, watching, salivating, clutching his box with two hands and cursing inside of his head, trying to ignore the searing pain as his back looked like a burnt victim’s. Still, there were only two thoughts swirling in his head that had any influence on him now: “MY Treasure…” and “Flee!”
