“Strong emotions are the key.” said Everlong, sitting on the couch, in Hiyori’s home as they were drinking coffee. Aoi was “sitting” beside them, her body partially disappearing into its fabric. “That is why a lot of them turn into demons, because the most intense feelings tend to be related to anger. Something explosive and violent.”
“Or jealousy.” snorted Hiyori, remembering Yukari’s emotions.
“That is true… and then there is lust too.” added Everlong, while Aoi just smiled apologetically.
“Well… she has the body of a succubus!” joked Hiyori, raising her cup to her lips, enjoying the aroma of the freshly brewed coffee.
“This is so embarrassing…” moaned Aoi, trying to cover her face but her ghostly form was not ideal to succeed with that.
“You just need to learn to utilize your own feelings to be able to act with your surroundings. Haahh… this is weird for me too, I usually make sure ghosts like you are not doing that! This is the opposite of what my job is!” shook his head Everlong “Anyway, I thought out a few options for you, Aoi!”
“Yes?” looked at him, focusing and listening with all of her senses.
“The first option is to send you into rebirth by following the Buddhist way. The time for this has already started to tick, you have only a month or so to decide if you want to go down this route.”
“What if she runs out of time?” asked Hiyori, looking at Aoi then at Everlong.
“It simply stops being an option. Rebirth or reincarnation starts at death. You have to go through some exact steps before you are reborn! This is not something that you can skip over! So if you choose this method, you need to make your decision quickly.”
“I…” opened her mouth Aoi but Everlong just raised his hand, silencing her.
“The second method is converting you into christianity as you were touched by Lucifer. Then go through thorough cleansing until you get accepted into His flock and can go to heaven. It is an arduous and long process… but it can be done.”
“Can anyone even get into Heaven? The requirements seem way too heavy!” smiled Hiyori, remembering the few tenets she read about.
“All tests are made hard to weed out the unworthy.” shrugged Everlong.
“Are there… more?” asked Aoi, gulping a little.
“There are!” smiled Everlong, clearly the first two were the more basic routes and something more to his taste was coming next. “We can turn you into a demon!” said with a small grin.
“What?!” exclaimed Hiyori, thinking she was hearing it wrongly.
“It is the easiest and quickest way!” continued Everlong, explaining it further “She has been touched by Lucy. The coldness radiating from her is typical to Lucifer! When people say ‘When Hell freezes over!” they have never been to his part of it!” shook his head, sighing “Anway, we could transform your soul into a fully fledged demon. Then you can seek Asylum instantly here and the problem will be solved!”
“...” watched him Hiyori with a silent look, mouth opening slowly “Haaahhh… you are something else, Boss!”
“It is the easiest method and the most surefire one! I can make it happen and oversee it plus she would be reborn in a completely new way but still retaining her memories and feelings!”
“Um…” spoke up Aoi in the end, raising her hand like she used to in school “What would that mean for me?”
“Well…” scratched his chin, looking at her, thinking, making not just Aoi but also Hiyori nervous. “I can’t let you transform into something dangerous, that would kill people. So I need to be careful with that. I would also have to brand you, for security’s sake… so I am not so sure yet how to go through with it exactly.”
“Brand me?” asked, surprised, feeling a bit weird about it.
“Yep. Similar to how others bind demons to items and to their own will to control them!”
“This sounds darker and darker the longer it goes Boss!” twitched her mouth Hiyori.

“I never said it would not come at a price!” shrugged his shoulders “I want to make sure I would not create something troublesome. No offense.”
“None taken.” nodded Aoi with a faint smile “So I would be your… slave?” asked with a resigned voice.
“Not mine. Hers.” pointed at Hiyori.
“Huh?” shuddered the one at the target of Everlong’s index finger.
“I would bind you to something that is hers. You would retain your freedom but if you would go out of control she could order and control you. You would be her maid, if anything!”
“...” looked the two girls at each other and it seemed Hiyori was much more surprised and weirded out by it than Aoi was.
“The last option is that I exorcize you and grant you true death. Your choice!” finished both his words and his cup of coffee.
“Not that many bright choices huh?” spoke up Aoi, after a little bit of a silence “I assume I’d forget everything by rebirth, yes?”
“Everything. You would be a completely different person afterwards.” nodded Everlong.
“Gaining my way into Heaven would be hard and I could fail in the process, no?” asked another question immediately.
“Yep. Failing would also have the possibility to fall and become a demon. Or just simply slain by angels.”
“Eh… great…” grumbled Hiyori in Aoi’s place, who was just smiling softly, already guessing as much.
“I’ll be honest with you!” looked into Everlong’s eyes Aoi “Even with all things considered, I loved living! I wanted to live a good life! Experience everything that I could not before! I was planning to get a good job and get myself a new start in a new city! Live my life to its fullest!”
“...” Hiyori could not help herself but to look at her with admiration in her eyes, especially after learning about her past.
“I see.” smiled a little Everlong, watching the light changing in Aoi’s eyes, reading her feelings and thoughts, already knowing her answer before she spoke further.
“Well, it seems my new life happened to be… unlife. Ironic, but if this is how it is, I want to make it work! I want this life to turn out differently, not some new one where I am not me anymore! Also I don’t want to change myself just so I can be let into some ‘magical’ place!”
“Exactly!” nodded Hiyori, getting fired up, feeling Aoi’s words were greatly reflecting her own views on things.
“So I choose to be Hiyori’s slave instead!” exclaimed Aoi with a pretty proud voice.
“Yes! Be my slave! Wait… fuck… I mean! Damn it!” grabbed onto her hair Hiyori, caught in the fire of Aoi’s speech, saying something stupid out loudly just now.
“Ahahaha~” laughed Everlong, nodding at Aoi while he rubbed Hiyori’s head who still tried to explain she did not mean it that way. “Got it! I’ll look up the most ideal way to turn you, but after that, you are going to work for me and with Hiyori!”
“Yes, Boss!” nodded Aoi, determined to go through with it. As her eyes turned to her soon to be master, she couldn’t help but let out a weird smile, slurping back a loose drop of saliva, appearing at the edge of her mouth.
“You good?” asked Everlong from Hiyori, feeling her shiver a little under his palm.
“I just felt like… I was duped somehow…” murmured, looking at the two of them.
