In the original novel, everything began with the assassination of Victoria Hawkes.
The city, Solaris, has always been plagued by influential families fighting with each other for supremacy. Among the most powerful is the Crocell family, the leaders of the Underworld.
Naturally, the Hawkes family with their high position in the military and connections with the police have always been a thorn in their eye. This only became worse when Victoria Hawkes, an otherworldly talent, became the head of the family.
Her enormous strength and unwavering personality were a big threat. She basically could bring forth a shift of power on her own.
That’s why it was essential to come to an agreement so that a war could be avoided. The head of the Crocell family chose diplomatic means. Yet, not everyone in the family agreed with those methods, saying it would undermine their status.
As a result, two factions divided the family in two, one led by the head of the Crocell family and the other by the head’s ambitious younger brother. What happened next was a civil war among the members of the Crocell family that went on for years.
What they didn’t know, though, was that the head’s brother plotted this rebellion for decades, giving him the advantage.
Creating secret alliances and placing moles in the other families, he was finally able to get rid of Victoria Hawkes who was the biggest threat to his plans. Unfortunately, the assassination came with a great cost and forced him to postpone further actions.
After all, he had to pay the price for hunting that unrivaled monster.
Nevertheless, what happened next was unavoidable. Victoria’s sister, Cynthia Blake, found out about the involvement of the Crocell family and triggered a war between the Crocell and Blake families.
Looking out of the window of the black sedan, Adam sighed.
It was around that time when both families were at war when the Silent Butchers got involved.
They were only a small gang in the northern slums but their skills, despite their lacking influence, were rather great. Under the leadership of Scarface, a viciously cunning psychopath, the gang quickly rose in ranks to a position where their strength couldn’t be ignored.
As a former subordinate under the orders of the Crocell family, they decided to reap more profits by selling information to the Blake family, as well as other powerful families who wanted to benefit from the war of those two behemoths.
At last, they chose to go independent before Scarface was beaten by the protagonist who reformed the gang to gain a better position in the city.
Although the big war between both families was unlikely to happen this time with the unexpected survival of Victoria Hawkes, the gang would still rise up to be a big threat.
Taking them down when they were weak was his best option in case something unexpected happened. He also didn’t know how Victoria survived the assassination of the Crocell family, giving him a wary feeling of the unpredictable future.
“Young Master Adam, we’ve arrived.” The guard, Zavier, said from the front of the car. Adam turned his head and nodded.
As the car came to a stop, both of them stepped out before taking a look around.
What fell into their eyes was the sight of old buildings and roads covered in potholes. The people looked worn out while their clothes, probably hand-me-downs, already lost their color.
“Are you sure we’re in the right place, young master? This area doesn’t seem like a hidden diamond.” Zavier commented.
He was right. The slums had long been trampled by the greedy capitalists of the city while the government had given up on them, making the chances of recovery minuscule.
Meaning that police activity was low and criminal behavior was high.
“Yeah, this is the right place without a doubt.”
It was simply the best environment for gangs such as the Silent Butchers to thrive.
“Alright, let’s go,” Adam said, walking ahead without hesitation. Luckily, the novel was very detailed with descriptions, giving him a close guess of where the headquarters of the Silent Butchers was located. He only needed to search for it.
Afterward, he could proceed with the plans he had in mind.

Walking through the slums, Adam was constantly on the lookout for buildings and landmarks he might find to be familiar from the novel. Yet, the search turned out to be more complicated than expected after he remained clueless even after three hours have passed.
By now, he already checked out the most suspicious places to the point he started to lose hope.
Becoming more impatient, Adam hurried his steps, a deep frown appearing on his face.
That’s when he rapidly turned around a street corner, bumping into someone. He landed on his butt with a surprised gaze as he looked up at the other person.
Surprisingly, it was a boy around his age. He couldn’t see his face clearly due to the black baseball cap he was wearing but his stature obviously belonged to that of a 12-year-old boy.
“Sorry, I didn’t see you. My bad.” He said, stretching out a hand to help him back up. Adam grabbed the hand and stood back on his feet a second later.
“No, it was my fault. I turned too fast around the corner.” He replied, scratching his head.
Meanwhile, Zavier was finally catching up to Adam who ran ahead. Seeing another unknown boy standing next to him, he squinted his eyes for a moment but didn’t say a word.
As the situation became awkward, the other boy opened his mouth.
Alright, I’m in a bit of a hurry.” He stated while leaving quickly.
Adam watched his back when Zavier’s words entered his ears.
“Young Master, this boy isn’t normal. I don’t know why I felt somehow threatened when I met his eyes.”
Hearing that from Zavier, Adam was intrigued. The clothes the boy was wearing were quite plain but the quality made it unlikely for him to live in the slums. Plus, he was special enough to even make Zavier, a peak inner shell martial artist, on guard.
It was clear that his background cannot be simple. However, what he was doing in this place was a mystery. He tried to recall if someone like that was mentioned in the novel but the information he had about the boy wasn’t enough.
“Do you want to follow him?” Zavier asked as he saw the interest in Adams’ eyes. Yet, Adam shook his head.
“Not part of our agenda. Let’s go.”
If they were fated to meet, it will happen sooner or later.
…………
Conor ran through the narrow streets like a lightning bolt. After sneaking out of the mansion at night, he went through much trouble to outsmart the security cameras and guard posts that were placed around the mountain.
It was already bright when he finally arrived in the slums back in the city. He wanted to go to the orphanage to see how it changed over the two years he was gone but because that damned woman would find out about his adventure soon enough, time wasn’t on his side.
In the end, he was in such a hurry that he bumped into another boy.
Thinking back, it was kind of strange. His short, bright blonde hair, good looks and expensive clothing poorly disguised as cheap trunks made it obvious he wasn’t around here. He also had a guard.
An outstanding one at that. Conor’s beast-like instincts told him that that man was good at fighting. A martial arts expert.
It was weird but Conor didn’t pay it much mind and quickly left after apologizing. They were just strangers, after all.
What he didn't anticipate, though, was becoming involved with them again only a short while later.
