A gorgeous woman stood on the top floor of one of the city's tallest skyscrapers, peering out the window with worried eyes. Her wavy, golden-blonde hair fell freely down to her waist while a rich, scarlet lipstick highlighted her eye-catching features.
She wore a fashionable white dress that tightly hugged her curves paired with fitting sandal heels. Ironic, given how untrustworthy this thin outfit was in the cold, snowy winter.
Yet, at the current moment, this was one of her least concerns.
The woman, Cynthia Blake, has been desperately trying for the past two months to find out information about the whereabouts of her sister and newly adopted nephew. Unfortunately, her search was futile.
Her sister has gone completely off the radar, leaving her in the dark. She probably bought a new estate secretly without the family's knowledge. Knowing Victoria's eccentric personality, this was a great reason for concern.
"What are you doing, honey?"
Seeing her husband enter the office, Cynthia smiled warmly.
"I'm just thinking."
Unlike her older sister, who is an otherwordly martial arts prodigy, Cynthia always had a weak body. It was a genetic implication and despite various treatments, her condition only improved marginally. She could live normally but her future in martial arts was cut off. In the Hawkes family, such a weakness was frowned upon.
That's why she was the first option for an arranged marriage with the young master of the prestigious Blake family at the time, Henry Blake. He was a talented businessman, one who elevated the Blake Conglomerate, the family business, to a much higher level.
Moreover, his compassionate and supportive nature transformed a marriage for mutual benefit into a marriage of love. With her husband's funds and her own unknown expertise in business, she established a fashion brand that is now among the most exclusive in the country.
Seeing her undeniable status, beauty, and achievements, people started to call her the flower of high society. Her life was perfect.
Her only worry was her older sister. Although her unimaginable power and position as a general in the army were able to make even the old monsters in those powerful aristocratic clans afraid, things changed after that event a few months back.
She switched to the reserve forces for an indefinite amount of time and took a leave of absence before suddenly adopting a kid. A kid even Cynthia, with the resources of the Blake family, can't find anything about. The information on orphaned children was just too broad and unreliable.
The main problem, though, was her fear that the kid might not survive. As the heir of the Hawkes family, there's no way she wouldn't train him in martial arts to protect himself. Still, given her sister's godly talent, she couldn't understand the difficulties other practitioners went through. Not to mention, her methods went beyond simple torture.
"Why, what's the problem?" Henry asked as he hugged her from behind, putting his chin on her shoulder.
"It's nothing. Victoria adopted a kid and now I'm worried."
"She did? But isn't that a good thing?"
Cynthia shook her head.
"You don't know her as I do. In her mind, raising a kid is just like raising soldiers. The only difference is that she makes it even harder."
"Yeah, but still, she's protective of her family, so I doubt she will take it too far. Just look at you."
Henry assured her as his mind wandered off to the day he married Cynthia. The moment Victoria came up to congratulate him, she didn't forget to mention the extent of violence she would inflict upon him if he would ever make her sister suffer. It still gave him chills.
Cynthia just sighed. "It's not her killing him that I'm worried about."
'Rather, him committing suicide to escape.' Though, the last thought remained stuck in her throat.
"How about I try to call some friends to find out about your sister's situation? Will that ease your mind?"
"Yes, that would be nice of you." She replied with a smile. They talked for a little while until the topic of conversation shifted.
"By the way, I have found a martial arts expert who can train Adam. Master Creed. He is very capable, well-known, and still owes a favor to our family."
At Henry's words, Cynthia fell deep into thought.

Adam Blake.
The youngest of their three kids. In the past, he always used to lay around or play pranks on the maids. He was loud, arrogant, and didn't take his status seriously.
Cynthia knew that her husband spoiled him a little bit too much but even after they tried changing his perception and attitude, there weren't any results. Maybe the exposure to their family's wealth and high treatment in the city made him think of others as inferior.
It worried her greatly and even her husband seemed to notice the problem over time.
Then, recently he changed. The boy started to take his studies seriously, acted politely and respectfully to others, and even asked for a martial arts teacher to train him.
The change was so sudden, Cynthia sometimes felt like he became another person. Older and more mature.
"That's great but aren't there any great experts in the family to teach him?"
"We do have them but they have duties and the training of the guards and security detail is not suitable for him over a long period of time. Master Creed is one of the most accomplished experts and he has been looking for a disciple for some time now."
Looking out of the window again, Cynthia leaned her back against her husband's chest.
"Alright.. if you say so."
She gently smiled as the weather finally cleared up, turning into a beautiful day.
...
Meanwhile, on the other end of the city, deep in a mountain forest where a modern mansion stood covered in snow, Conor was wrapped tightly in multiple layers of clothes.
He was clumsily pushing a medium-sized snow shovel over the ground, digging the snow from the street. On the side, Victoria stood straight with crossed arms dressed in her usual outfit.
"Don't slack off. The access to the mansion from the road needs to be cleared as well as the first two miles down the mountain! The city won't send snow plugs to clear them since it counts as a private road!"
"This is insane!" Conor exclaimed in frustration.
Naturally, there were two snow plugs just waiting in the garage of the mansion because they were needed for the servants to commute back home. He's seen them driving around at the beginning of winter.
Despite this, she orders him to clear the snow from the entire street with a snow shovel. Not to forget the weighted gloves, vest and boots he's wearing at the same time. Even the shovel isn't normal!
"Urgh, what is this?" Conor almost wanted to cry as his hands shivered under the weight.
"What? The shovel is only twenty pounds."
"Yeah, but why? Isn't the rest enough?"
"It came with the set!" Victoria replied while turning her head.
She was clearly lying!
Conor was fuming mad as he continued digging through the snow. Every single movement was difficult and slow but the torment over the last two months made him more resistant to these unreasonable situations.
It would be better to say that he was more eager to finish them as soon as possible to rest. In this case, however, Conor felt different. Even after doing his best for three hours without a break, he didn't clear even one-fifth of what he was told.
Yet, the person who was supposed to be his loving adopted mother stood lazily on the side, yawning in boredom.
"Fuck this! Fuck this stupid, damn snow!"
