 Chapter 5

Warp Digivolution

Vivienne. “Edgar, will you stop playing around and help me!” Vivienne asked as she grabbed a hunk of meat and used the strength in her arms and lower back to rip it out of the plant that created it. Her Yukimibotamons are seated on her shoulders. They squeak to encourage her efforts and use their cold breath to cool the perspiration on her forehead. Once it was free, she inspected it before placing it in her bag. A holographic notification window appeared over the bag as soon as the piece of meat was dematerialized.

With a relieved expression, Vivienne turned her attention toward Edgar. He is in the middle of treating Botamon like a basketball. Once he stopped dribbling and let Botamon rest on the ground, Vivienne could see foam dripping from the mouth, eyes disoriented, and moaning in pain. Edgar pulled out a pillbox from his bag and offered one of the pills. Botamon sniffed it once before swallowing it whole. Three pieces of meat are presented to Botamon. They are quickly gobbled up, and a satisfied giggle comes out of Botamon’s mouth. Edgar places his hand in front of Botamon and creates a holographic window that displays Botamon’s stats and skills.

Edgar. “I am not playing! This is called a workout. Botamons HP, ATK, DEF, and SPD have improved because of it.”

Vivienne. “Botamon is still an infant! You have been torturing him for an hour. Let him rest for a bit.”

Edgar paused and nodded when he noticed the time on his watch. He then patted Botamon’s head and gave it permission to rest. Botamon wasted no time and began snoring away, which surprised Edgar.

Edgar. “Bernard said infant Digimon could stay awake for six hours before needing to sleep.”

Vivienne. “Food and medicine didn’t cure the stress Botamon built up during the workout. Only sleep can fix that, so slow down on the training, or it might harm him instead of helping.”

Edgar turned back to the sleeping Botamon, who let out a cute burp as it snored.

Edgar. “My family trains all the children to be warriors like my uncle Don. Even the pets in our home are trained to fight and protect us. I wanted my Digimon to be ready to do its duty if we get attacked.”

Vivienne. “Do you feel Botamon is ready for that kind of training? He just hatched this morning!”

Edgar. “You have a point… I should take it slow. I guess what happened to Lynn still haunts me. She might be dead for all we know, and whatever took her might be coming after us soon. I want a Digimon who can protect me from the evil ones Jijimon mentioned.”

Vivienne. “I feel the same way. But I want my Digimon to grow stronger the right way without hurting them. Lynn’s fate will remain a mystery until we are ready to look for her.”

Edgar. “How long will that take? Months? If I was the one they took and they kept me locked up somewhere, I would curse you all if you took your sweet time to rescue me.”

Vivienne. “Same, but we need to focus on building a place we can call home first. I don’t want to sleep on the floor or grass for three months. Do you?”

Edgar. “Of course not! I already miss my bed. I didn’t say anything about it before because I didn’t want anyone telling my Uncle that I couldn't tough it out.”

Vivienne. “I am sure Bernard and Drona want soft beds and a proper roof over their heads. They try to act like nothing's bothering them, but I am sure they worry the same as us. Let’s talk about something that isn’t depressing.”

Edgar. “Alright! So, who do you like among the two?”

Vivienne. “Like?”

Edgar. “You know what I mean!”

Vivienne. “You are starting to creep me out, Edgar. Why are you asking?”

Edgar. “Trying to shift to a topic that interests me. My main hobby is studying the people around me, including all their interests. We have three months here, a lot of time to build relationships. I’m twelve, and Bernard is fifteen. He might be too young for you, and I am definitely a child in your eyes. That leaves Drona as the only candidate since he is seventeen like you.”

Vivienne. “I have no interest in a relationship with Drona or anyone. Why would I when I have these two Marshmallows to cuddle?”

Vivienne stroked the heads of the Yukimibotamon on her shoulders.

Edgar. “Hmmm… interesting. So you are not one of those who constantly think about boys or girls.”

Vivienne. “I think I will go gather food and medicine on my own if you plan to keep asking these stupid questions.”

Edgar. “I am a boy who questions everything and anything. But I think it's best to divide and conquer our tasks. I plan on collecting a lot of potatoes north of here, and your bag looks full already. Will see you later.” Edgar gently lifts Botamon with his hands and walks away. Vivienne watched him leave out of her sight before turning back towards the skyscraper tree where Jijimon’s hall should be under. It would take fifteen minutes to walk through the dense forest, and the sky above had darkened with heavy gray clouds.

Vivienne. “Looks like it is going to rain soon. I wonder if it will be the same as on Earth.” The heavens answered her question with a heavy downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning. Vivienne sought cover under the shade of a tree that blocked the rain from reaching the forest floor. Her clothes and her violet hair are drenched.

Vivienne. “Let’s wait out the rain. I need my clothes to dry a bit.”

The Yukimibotamons release cold air causing Vivienne to shiver. Before she was about to ask them to stop, she noticed all the moisture covering her body and clothes freeze up and flake away. Everything was cold but dry to the touch.

Vivienne. “You two are amazing!”

CRACK! Rumble…. BOOM!

Suddenly lightning descended onto the forest, causing the trees to explode. Vivienne took a few steps out of the cover of the tree and looked up at the angry sky. Her mouth dropped open when she saw a gigantic serpent flying through the clouds, illuminated by lightning. Its massive body stretched 128 meters (420 ft) and coiled like a mighty Dragon from ancient Chinese paintings. Except this one is covered in Golden Exo Armor and huge whale-like fins. A Golden Horned helmet adorns its head which looks like a cannon. Through the eye hole, a massive red orb lasers in on Vivienne. The creature lets out a roar mimicking thunder before disappearing in a flash of light. Vivienne kept staring at the stormy sky, but it didn’t reappear. The sound of leaves rustling and twigs cracking nearby caught her attention. She felt goosebumps behind her head which always happened when someone was watching her in secret. She turned around and saw two wolves larger than horses emerge from the foliage. Their yellow eyes lock in on Vivienne. One is black with white tiger stripes, and the other is white with blue tiger stripes.  A long tiger-like tail whips around in excitement. Fear rushed through Vivienne’s heart, but her mind subdued it and turned it into anger. In her mind, she repeated a mantra to herself. Never show your fear… Use it to fuel your rage… Stare them down and be ready to fight back! She learned these lessons by constantly being bullied in her school life because of her interests, choice of clothes, violet hair, and aversion to romantic relationships. But would those lessons work against Giant Wolves?

Vivienne. “Who the heck are you two? What do you want from me?”

Garurumon and BlackGarurumon. You can guess which one of us is which.”

The white wolf-tiger answered.

BlackGarurumon. “We are looking for a Human. Have you seen one of those walking around?”

Vivienne. “Is that supposed to be a trick question, or are you trying to be funny?”

Garurumon. “You can quit acting tough. You reek of fear! Just have a look at those traitors on your shoulders.”

The Yukimibotamons on Vivienne's shoulders were visibly shivering. She could hide it, but they couldn’t.

BlackGarurumon. “Lady Lynnmon did say one of them has Violet hair. Looks like we got lucky. You can come with us willingly or in our jaws. The choice is yours!”

Vivienne. “Lynnmon? Do you mean Lynn? You two work for the Deities who kidnapped her from my world?”

Garurumon. “Kidnap from your world? Heresy! Lady Lynnmon is a noble Digimon.”

BlackGarurumon. “The nerve of these Humans to insult our High Priestess.”

Vivienne. “You sound like you met the other Humans.”

BlackGarurumon. “We caught one in a Potato field. The idiot thought he could defeat us with his Botamon.”

Garurumon. “He cried like a baby when we took away his slime ball. The idiot might chase after it all the way to Mount Olympus.”

Vivienne. “Why are you doing this? We haven’t done anything to you!”

BlackGarurumon. “Lady Lynnmon has decreed it illegal for Humans to enter our world. If we find any, we must bring them to her alive so she can add them to the hall of statues along with the rest of the traitors.”

Vivienne. “Traitors? Statues? I don’t understand any of that.”

BlackGarurumon. “Argh! Ignorant Human! Digimon who resist the will of the Olympus XII and our High Priestess must be petrified to prevent them from reincarnating.”

Vivienne. “But they left Jijimon alive.”

Garurumon. “The Guardian of the nursery? No one else was ready or willing to take over the Nursery. So they spared him.”

BlackGarurumon. “If we were stronger back then, we might have volunteered to run that joint.”

Vivienne. “You were here in the Nursery when they attacked Jijimon?”

BlackGarurumon. “We were Tsunemons at the time. The XII Legions of Olympus came searching for new recruits for their Legions. The old fart protested and got beaten to a pulp for his defiance.”

Rumble…Clap!

Thunder rolled across the sky, and lightning bolts arced through it like a web.

Garurumon. “Enough chit-chatting with the illegal alien. GigaSeadramon will blast us if we don’t hurry it up.”

Vivienne. “I am not going anywhere with the two of you! Leave me alone and give Edgar back!”

Garurumon. “Or what?”

BlackGarurumon. “I am going to enjoy biting into your flesh! Freeze Fang!”

BlackGarurumon pounced towards Vivienne with his jaws wide open and bit into the tree trunk behind her. She dodged the attack by falling flat on her back and rolling to the side in the nick of time.

Garurumon. “Fool! Howling Blaster!”

Blue Flames spewed out of Garurumon’s jaws and froze everything they came into contact with. Vivienne used her bag to block the flames and threw it away when it turned into a block of ice. She got up and started running in the direction where Drona and Bernard should be. Garurumon and Black Garurumon chased after her at a slow pace while taunting her.

Garurumon. “She really thinks she can outrun us!”

BlackGarurumon. “Let her tire out her lungs and muscles. Lady Lynnmon said she wanted the Digi-Destined in one piece.”

Garurumon. “I will summon our brothers! Wolf Cry!”

Garurumon releases a sorrowful howl that turns into a powerful shock wave that radiates in all directions. Several Garurumon and BlackGarurumon catch up to them and join the chase. Their mouths salivate, and they laugh like hyenas. One tried to take a bite of Vivienne and missed when she threw dirt into its eyes.

Garurumon. “Don’t stop her! She is leading us to the other Humans!”

When Vivienne heard that, she stopped running and faced them head-on. She releases a war cry and punches the closest BlackGarurumon on its nose. Her right fist is cloaked in a purple aura before spreading over her body.

Vivienne. “I am done running! D.N.A Charge! Overdrive!”

One of the Yukimibotamons on her shoulders absorbs the violet aura and starts glowing.

Garurumon. “What just happened?”

BlackGarurumon. “Her Digimon is Warp Digivolving!”

The Yukimibotamon on Vivienne’s left shoulder jumped off. A sphere of bright light envelops the infant, and countless black 1’s and 0’s begin swirling around it. A female voice starts yelling out the names of the Digimon it is evolving into.

[Yukimibotamon digivolves to Nyaromon!

Nyaromon digivolves to Salamon!

Salamon digivolves into BlackGatomon!

BlackGatomon digivolves to LadyDevimon!]

The sphere of light fades away to reveal a humanoid fallen angel wrapped in skin-tight stitched leather over her head, chest, waist, and right leg. Pale white skin on her slender arms, the lower half of her face, and her left leg. Blood red eyes, silver hair, black webbed wings full of holes, and ghoulish hands. Steel chains wrap around her body. A creature of darkness emerges out of her neck. It has red eyes, stitches where the mouth should be, and a small hand. Vivienne and the other Yukimibotamon are amazed by Ladydevimon’s appearance.

Vivienne. “Crush these assholes who tried to hurt me.”

LadyDevimon. “My pleasure! Which one of you flea-bitten mutts wants to dance with me first?”

Garurumon. “How is this possible? There is no way an infant can warp to an Ultimate!”

LadyDevimon. “Then I must be blessed by the Goddess of plot armor! Have a taste of it, Darkness Wave!”

LadyDevimon summons hundreds of creatures from the shadows that look like bats. They fly toward the Garurumons like a tidal wave. Their bites burn the hides of the Garurumon pack and reduce half of their number into code. The survivors howled in rage and spewed blue flames to freeze the Bats before they could get close. When the last bats disappeared, only five white-furred Garurumon remained.

Garurumon. “Bitch, you will pay for their deaths!”

Vivienne. “How are these guys still standing after that attack?”

Garurumon. “Ignorant Human! Virus skills are ineffective against us Vaccine types. Even if this traitor has become an Ultimate, we can still take her down with our numbers.”

LadyDevimon. “Quit acting tough! Darkness Spear!”

LadyDevimon flew towards the Alpha of the Garurumons and transformed her left hand into a long sharp spike to impale her victim. She tosses away the corpse, which is dematerialized into code.

LadyDevimon. “Who’s next?”

LadyDevimon asked as she licked the blood splatter that fell near her lips.

Garurumon. “The Bitch can’t take us all on! Everyone, Ice Cannon!”

The pack summons Ice in the shape of beach balls in front of their open jaws. They fire it like a cannonball toward LadyDevimon. She intercepts the volley by using another Darkness Wave. This time the bats sacrifice themselves to protect their master from harm. The Garurmons stop their attacks after firing three volleys and realizing it didn’t leave a scratch on her.

LadyDevimon. “Ran out of MP? Me too! So how about we do this the old-fashioned way?”

LadyDevimon dives into the Garurumon pack and uses her hands to claw and slap them. A Garurumon saw an opening and lunged toward her. LadyDevimon predicted the attack and whipped one of her chains at it. When the chain made contact with flesh, an electric shock spread across its body.

Vivienne. “Woah! LadyDevimon is so awesome!”

Rumble… Boom!

Lightning descended from the clouds alongside the giant serpent that Vivienne had seen before.

Garurumon. “GigaSeadramon! The Human has an Ultimate! We need your-”

GigaSeadramon. “GIGA SEA DESTROYER!

GigaSeadramon’s mouth turned into a cannon before firing something that looked like a torpedo made of green light. It flew towards LadyDevimon and the Garurumons at high speed, giving no one the time to dodge out of its way. The impact of the blast created a shockwave that uprooted trees and flung Vivienne and her Yukimibotamon back at least twenty meters. Her body was thrown around like a ragdoll before being covered in mud and foliage. It took a while before Vivienne could feel her body being pulled out. Water splashed over her face from the rain, still pouring without a break. Drona, Bernard, and T.T surrounded her with worried expressions, which turned to relief when she opened her eyes after giving her medicine and applying some bandages on her wounds.

Vivienne. “What happened?”

Drona. “We were about to ask you.”

T.T. “Let her recover first before you start asking questions.”

Yukimibotamon jumped onto Vivienne's lap. She lifted it up with her hands and let it rub its body against her face. Mokumon and Kuramon inspected Vivienne until they were satisfied and returned to their Tamers.

Vivienne. “Wait! Where is LadyDevimon?”

Vivienne looked around, but all she could find among the ruined landscape was a small white puppy sniffing around. It lifted its adorable head when it noticed Vivienne was staring at it and rushed over to lick her face.

Vivienne. “Who is this?’

T.T. “This is Salamon, a Rookie-level Digimon. She evolved from your Yukimibotamon.”

Drona. “Salamon led us to you. Without her help, we wouldn’t know you were under all this debris.”

Vivienne. “Really? Thank you, Salamon! Were you… LadyDevimon?”

Salamon. “She is the one you are holding in your hand.”

Vivienne. “What? I don’t understand.”

Salamon. “It's complicated… Because we are twins, all the experience points she gained from killing the Garurumons got shared between us. That is why I got enough EXP to evolve straight to Rookie.”

Vivienne. “Why did LadyDevimon turn back into an infant?”

Salamon. “Warp Digivolution is temporary. My twin used the energy from your angry aura to Digivolve into an Ultimate, but once she used it all up, she changed back to her infant form.”

Vivienne. “But she was at the center of the blast. How did she survive it?”

Salamon. “LadyDevimon lied to the Garurumons that she ran out of MP. She used her Darkness Wave to shield herself from the blast.”

Vivienne. “I see… was that GigaSeadramon a Mega level?”

Bernard. “Only Megas wield this kind of power.”

Vivienne. “Where did he go?”

Salamon. “Another Mega Level Digimon showed up and chased him away.”

Vivienne. “Who?”

Salamon. “Looked like one of the Royal Knights.”

Drona. “If you don’t mind, can either of you tell us what happened chronologically?”

Five minutes later… Everyone sat in silence to process what they learned from Vivienne's encounter with the pack of Garurumons.

T.T. “Are you sure this Lynnmon is our Lynn?”

Vivienne. “No, but it would be a weird coincidence.”

Bernard. “I have met Digimon with names like Scorpiomon and Flybeemon. They are a ton with odd names that sound like things from our world. Doesn’t mean they are related.”

Vivienne. “Whatever! My brain made the connection, and those mutts wanted to turn me into a statue for being Human. That’s all I know.”

Drona. “I’m more surprised that punching a Digimon will make our partners Digivolve.”

Vivienne. “I reacted on instinct. I had no idea it would make my Digimon evolve.”

Drona. “Instinct told you to yell ‘D.N.A. Charge! Overdrive!’?”

Vivienne. “It felt right to say it. Bernard, have you heard of it?”

Bernard. “I didn’t have a Digimon as a partner the last time I was here. This is all new to me, including Warp Digivolution.”

T.T. “Punch me and see what happens.”

Vivienne. “I have no energy for that.”

Drona. “I will give it a shot.”

Drona pulled up his fists and swung at Ghostmon, who dodged it easily.

T.T. “Sorry, that was my reflexes kicking in. Try again!”

Drona threw a sucker punch which landed on Ghostmon’s face. He pulled his hand back quickly and slapped it hard with the other to put out the blue flames that clung to his skin and burned him.

Drona. “Damn! That hurt! Why did I think it was a good idea to hit a flaming scarecrow with my bare hand?”

Bernard. “There is no aura on your hand or body. It might be something unique to Vivienne.”

Vivienne. “I am in no mood to test out that theory. We have to find Edgar before they turn him into a statue!”

Drona. “Any idea where they took him?”

Vivienne. "They said Edgar would chase them all the way to Mount Olympus. Who knows where that is?"

Salamon. “If I can find his scent, there is a chance I can follow it.”

Vivienne. “Edgar went to a spot north of here where Potatoes grew. One of the Garurumons told me they caught him there.”

Drona and Bernard pulled Vivienne onto her feet. It took several minutes of exploration of the northern area of the forest to find the potato field.

T.T. “Salamon, do your best to find his scent.”

Salamon sniffed the area for a few minutes before her eyes grew wide in excitement.

Salamon. “Found it! Follow me!”
