I swipe through faces on the screen,

A sea of strangers, all unknown.

I try to find a spark of interest,

But all I feel is all alone.

I see the smiles, the glossy eyes,

The carefully posed photos.

But none of them can fill the void,

That grows inside me, like a hole.

I swipe and swipe, but nothing clicks,

No connection, no desire.

Just empty faces, scrolling past,

A never-ending, lonely choir.

I close the app, and put my phone away,

And try to focus on my art.

But the loneliness lingers,

You are reading story Disc-over: Signals from the Noise at novel35.com

A constant ache, deep in my heart.

I grab my brush, and start to paint,

The swirling colors, wild and free.

But even as I lose myself,

In the flow of creativity,

I can't shake the feeling,

That I'm missing something,

Something that I'll never find,

On this lonely Valentine's Day,

As I swipe and swipe,

Through the endless sea of faces,

Searching for a love,

That will never come my way.
