"I wonder if Jaegar and Kryllo are alright."

Brittanya was sitting down around a small round table inside a restaurant within the city. She was eating a sandwich that was served on a plate. She also ordered orange juice served in a glass.

"Maybe I should talk to the Archer's Den to release them…"

After finishing the sandwich and orange juice, she then stood up from her seat and started to walk toward the Archer's Den headquarters.

When she arrived at the headquarters' reception desk, she was abruptly interrupted by the female receptionist even before Brittanya could talk.

"Look here, Miss. We were kind enough not to throw you in jail too. Don't make us regret that decision, okay?"

"But I—"

"But you wasted our time! With monsters popping everywhere, we barely got manpower to spare to run things here. We take every application very seriously. There are those who try but aren't really cut out to be archers. All we ask is they hit the targets with the arrows—"

"They need to hit the target with arrows...?"

Brittanya talked to herself, and then realized something.

"Hey, can you give my friend another chance?"

---

"Darn it! They won't listen to me!"

Jaegar was hitting the metal bars to no avail.

"They won't let you out even if you do that. Trust me, I've tried."

The old man from the cell opposite of them talked again. He then let out a chuckle.

"Why... are you here...?"

Kryllo asked the old man.

"Why, you ask?"

The old man closed his eyes and pondered for a moment.

"Because I'm hiding."

"From who...?"

Kryllo kept his gaze on the old man.

"Didn't I tell you? The king wanted us dead."

"So, you're telling us that you're not crazy and what you're telling us is all true?"

Jaegar didn't hide the condescending tone he had in his question.

"Yes."

The old man answered with conviction.

"Then, why are you telling these things to us? I'm a knight, remember? If you're a wanted man, I can report you to the Order's higher ups."

Jaegar stuck out his arm out of the metal bars and pointed at the old man. Surprisingly, the old man laughed.

"Who would believe you? They think I'm a deranged old man, shouting nonsense every now and then."

"Again, why tell us all this then?"

Jaegar was starting to get confused.

"Maybe I am going a little crazy... But when you answered back to me earlier, I saw your earnestness in your mission. I remembered when I was like that as well."

The old man stared at his open palm.

"That still doesn't answer my question—"

"I want you to be careful."

The old man's serious voice surprised both Jaegar and Kryllo.

"Not just from the monsters, but also from everyone else pulling the strings in this kingdom."

Jaegar and Kryllo remained silent for a while. Then, a knight appeared and opened their cell.

"Hey, get up. You're free."

"Huh? Really? Why…?"

Jaegar stood up reluctantly.

"I don't know. But someone from the Archer's Den is here to pick you up."

The knight opened their cell.

While both of them started to walk away from their cell, the old man shouted again.

"Don't forget! Be careful of everyone!"

The old man then laughed loudly, but there was a hint of sadness mixed in the laughter. As Jaegar looked back, the knight that was walking behind them shook his head.

"That poor old man has gone crazy. He's never getting out of here."

---

Both Jaegar and Kryllo were escorted back to the Archer's Den Headquarters. Brittanya was waiting for them at the entrance.

"Hey guys, how have you been?"

She greeted them with a smile.

"Why didn't they throw you into prison?"

Jaegar asked her with contempt.

"That's just how the world works. By the way, we're going to get Kryllo into the Archer's Den."

Brittanya kept her smile as she pointed toward Kryllo.

"Me...?"

Kryllo stared at her cheerful yet wry smile.

---

"Why are we doing this again? It's not like you can hit the target with that arrow, right?"

The examiner shook his head and had his hands on his waist. He then looked at the arrow Kryllo was holding in his right hand.

"Just remember what I told you!"

Brittanya cheered on Kryllo from a distance.

"So… what did you tell him?"

Jaeger asked her as he was looking at Kryllo.

"Don't run towards the target but instead hit the target with his arrow."

Brittanya puffed up her chest as she smiled.

"Hopefully he listens to you."

Jaegar shrugged his shoulders and looked on.

Kryllo was standing still for a while now. The examiner stared with furrowed brows at his dubious examinee, when Kryllo suddenly moved. His stance was like he was going to throw the arrow like a spear. The examiner couldn't believe what he was seeing for the second time.

"What is it this time?! That's not how archers shoot an arrow!"

The examiner furiously pulled out his hair.

"As long as... I hit the target... with an arrow, right...?"

Kryllo glanced at the examiner then looked directly at the target in front of him. He then threw the arrow. It hit the bull's eye.

"What the hell?!"

The examiner fell to his knees.

---

The party finally exited the Archer's Den headquarters. They stood in front of the headquarters' entrance.

"I can't believe they let you in to the Archer's Den."

Jaegar kept on shaking his head.

"I was… just lucky…"

Kryllo talked under his breath. He was walking behind both Jaegar and Brittanya.

"Hey, Brittanya. Did you know that he could do that stuff?"

Jaegar looked at Brittanya's direction.

"Nope."

She smiled at Jaegar.

"What? Then why did you ask them to test Kryllo again?"

He scratched the back of his head. Brittanya put her finger on her chin and looked up. She pondered for a moment.

"Well, if he couldn't do it, then you two would just go back to prison, right?"

"Yeah. We would have."

Jaegar started to squint at her.

"Oh. I see."

Brittanya nodded her head.

"What do you mean 'I see'?! You didn't plan anything if that actually happened?"

Jaegar leaned closer toward Brittanya.

"No. Not really."

She smiled at him again.

"The Archer's Den would call for our heads! We could have been hanged if Kryllo couldn't do it!"

Jaegar was now glaring at Brittanya.

"I guess I would have gone solo then."

Her smile was unchanging.

"Maybe I should have gone solo…"

Jaegar slapped his hand on his face.

---

They walked around Dosael a little bit more to familiarize themselves with the surroundings. The city was much more developed than Jiputin, since Dosael was considered as one of the major cities. The city walls were made of large stones and there were guards that patrol on top of the walls.

The party decided to stay in an inn after a while. They took two rooms, with Brittanya staying alone in one room. Night time already came and they were having dinner at the first floor of the inn.

"Hey guys."

Brittanya was staring at the cloth pouch she was holding.

"I don't think we have any money left, after we paid for the rooms and this food."

"That's because we wasted a day without doing anything worthwhile."

Jaegar continued eating.

"I did... something..."

Kryllo protested while continuing to eat.

"Oh, you did something, alright."

Jaegar shook his head.

"And we also gave all the gold coins we earned in Jiputin to the old lady who took you in."

Jaegar glared at Kryllo.

"That's enough from you, Jaegar."

Brittanya scolded him.

"Ok, Mom."

Jaegar finished eating and put down his spoon on the table.

"Tomorrow, let's start doing our mission again! We'll take on jobs involving hunting down monsters."

Jaegar looked at Brittanya and Kryllo directly in the eyes and they both nodded in agreement.

---

"So... which one...?"

Kryllo was holding two sheets of paper with different requests written in them. The three of them were inside the city's tavern the following day.

"What the hell are all these? Why do the monster-hunting jobs pay so low? Two silver coins for killing twenty wild wolves?! Are you kidding me? Even if we can do a lot of requests, we'll waste our time just to save up some money."

Jaegar couldn't believe what he was seeing while browsing through several requests he had in his hands. The barkeep heard him complaining.

"Well, there are a lot of adventurers and whatnot in Dosael. The demand for hunting jobs is not that high. Requests will surely be taken by one group or another."

The barkeep then moved away to serve a customer. Meanwhile, Brittanya was holding a request in her hand and was reading it thoroughly.

"How about this one?"

She handed it to Kryllo.

"Request for... bodyguards..."

"Let me see that."

Jaegar grabbed the sheet of paper from Kryllo. He read it silently then reacted loudly.

"Ten pieces of gold?! We'll take this!"

"But it doesn't have anything to do with hunting down monsters. Are you sure you're alright with that? Though, we can use the money."

Brittanya crossed her arms as she waited for Jaegar's response.

"If the pay is this high, it means it's dangerous. And when it's dangerous, there are bound to be monsters involved."

Jaegar's confidence could not be shaken.

"Let's go meet the one who requested this and hear more details."
