They left the tavern and went to the specified location in the request. They went to a different inn than the one they stayed in. They walked a fair distance from the tavern to the unfamiliar inn.
The inn was located in one of the more affluent parts of the city, since it was surrounded by assorted business establishments. The one who put up the request was staying in one of the rooms inside.
When they asked the innkeeper which room the person stayed in, the innkeeper told them the room was in the second floor. They went up the stairs and knocked on the door of the specified room.
"Good day! We found your request at the tavern, and we wanted to talk to you about the details."
Brittanya shouted from outside the room, hoping the person inside could hear her.
The door quickly opened. A young man with golden hair peered outside of the door and greeted them.
"I never thought someone would choose my request this soon."
His eyes widened when he saw Brittanya.
"Oh. I did not expect to see a beautiful girl take this request. Guess we will have an enjoyable time during this job."
He was grinning while looking at Brittanya.
"Hey. You're that thief that got caught."
Jaegar called out to the young man. The young man then looked at the girl's companions.
"Oh, it's you guys… I know I already introduced myself. How could you forget? It's Leonze."
Leonze frowned upon the sight of the two men with Brittanya.
"Yeah, right."
Jaegar looked away.
"So, you got out of prison, too. How did you escape?"
Leonze then smirked at Jaegar.
"We... didn't..."
Kryllo answered for them.
---
They were now all inside Leonze's room. He told them to sit down on the vacant chairs that were scattered around the room. They then introduced themselves to Leonze. After the introduction, they went straight to business.
"Are you sure this isn't some kind of scam? I mean, how are you going to pay us that much gold?"
Jaegar had a skeptical look on his face while he had his arms crossed and glared at Leonze.
"How do you think I got out of prison?"
Leonze smiled at Jaegar.
"Wait, how do you guys know each other again?"
Brittanya looked back and forth at Jaegar and Leonze.
"We met him... inside the prison... He was caught... stealing apples..."
Kryllo explained to her.
"Hey, it was ONE apple!"
Leonze put up one finger in front of Kryllo.
"Ah. The one we saw being beaten up by some people?"
Brittanya clapped her hands together.
"Please, don't remind me."
Leonze covered his face with his hand. Jaegar suddenly laughed.
"It's really ironic that a thief gets caught while stealing. What kind of thief is that?"
"A thief not by choice... Anyway, can we talk about my request now?"
Leonze changed the subject as he looked at everyone. The others nodded.
"You see, I want bodyguards because I want to go inside the abandoned fortress just outside of Dosael."
Leonze then clasped his hands together and looked directly at Jaegar's eyes.
"Why do you want to go there?"
Brittanya asked as she raised her hand.
"Hey, Jaegar. Remember that old man we met inside the prison? Remember when he said something about the Legendary Artifacts?"
Leonze closed his eyes and leaned back on the chair he was sitting on.
"Oh, what, do you believe that crazy old man?"
Jaegar raised his eyebrow as he smirked.
"I was following a lead. The information suggested the artifacts being near here at Dosael, and the only logical location where it could be is that abandoned fortress. I wasn't hoping for much since my lead wasn't guaranteed or anything, but when that old man said those words, I thought maybe there is some chance it is true."
Leonze furrowed his eyebrows as he stared into space. Jaegar then sighed loudly.
"I have no intention of asking you why you're chasing fairy tales and legends. But since it pays good money, we're going to do it. And there are surely monsters there, so I can also do my mission."
"That's fair enough. We'll leave first thing tomorrow. Let's meet at the southern gate."
Leonze stood up from his chair. The other three agreed and then left the room afterwards. They then exited the inn and headed back toward their own inn.
"Is he... really a thief...?"
Kryllo wondered to himself.
"He is. He had the Thief Association's crest in his clothes. Much like the gloves they gave you from the Archer's Den and my armor from the Knights' Order, they are proof we are part of those respective Job Class Organizations."
Jaegar explained in detail.
"I see... So is Brittanya... part of—"
"Oh no!"
Brittanya suddenly shouted.
"What is it?"

Jaegar quickly looked at Brittanya.
"We still don't have money! We can't stay in the inn."
---
The following day, the three of them met with Leonze at the southern gate before daybreak. It was still relatively dark outside. There were only a few people walking about.
"Why do you guys look so tired?"
Leonze was already waiting at the gate when the three of them arrived.
"We had to finish a lot of monster hunting requests, because we didn't have money to stay at the inn."
Brittanya explained while yawning loudly.
"Why does staying at inns cost too much?!"
Jaegar kept scratching the back of his head with a scowl on his face. It was mainly due to their lack of money and sleep.
They then exited the gate and started to walk toward the abandoned fortress. Kryllo was walking with them while his eyes were closed.
"Is he going to be alright…?"
Leonze asked Brittanya, as he was looking at Kryllo.
"He's sleepwalking, I think? Don't worry about him."
She smiled at Leonze.
"I'm starting to worry about my safety, to be honest."
Leonze forced a smile at Brittanya.
"We'll get there after a while. I've heard that the place is crawling with monsters now, with some strong ones, at that."
Leonze then looked ahead at their destination.
"Yes! I knew it."
Jaegar pumped his fist.
"Why is he happy?"
Leonze whispered to Brittanya.
"It's his, well, our mission to eradicate monsters."
"Oh yeah, I heard about that in prison. Though I still don't understand why he would be happy about being in danger."
Leonze stared at Jaegar for a while and then shook his head.
---
Atop the cliffs surrounding the abandoned fortress, there were some people gathered together and having a discussion. There about ten people in their group. Their whole bodies were all covered with ragged cloaks. There was a slightly strong breeze that made their cloaks flutter in the wind.
"Hey boss, our scout saw a party of four headed this way."
One of the cloaked people stood beside a woman who was sitting on a large rock, her face covered in a mask. Her long, violet hair was being blown by the wind.
"Oh, I wonder what they're planning on doing here."
"Should we get rid of them?"
One of her other companions stood up from the ground and cracked their knuckles.
"No, I want to see why they're here. Could it be coincidence? Or is it... Anyway, we Bounty Hunters were paid to do a job. Let's get to it."
The woman then stood up and walked away from the cliff. The others with her followed suit.
---
"We're here."
Leonze was looking at the entrance of the abandoned fortress. There were stone walls surrounding the fortress, and the giant wooden gate was already detached and fallen on the ground. The stone walls also had cracks and moss around them.
The fortress was also made of stone and had several floors. One would need to bend their neck backwards just to see the highest point of the fortress. Most of the glass windows were already broken. The rubble around the fortress were comprised of fallen parts of the fortress itself.
"Where... are we...?"
Kryllo finally opened his eyes.
"Good morning!"
Brittanya greeted him.
"Everyone, be careful. I can feel that monsters won't be our only problem here…"
Jaegar warned them as he was looking around.
"Well, we won't get anything done by standing around here. Let's go inside."
Leonze started walking through the entrance. The other three followed him.
---
When they were inside the fortress, it was very dark and they couldn't clearly see what was ahead of them. All they could gather was that they were in some corridor and rubble made of wood and stones were scattered around.
"Brittanya, make some fire."
Jaegar handed some stones to her while he was holding what seemed to be a torch that was put out a long time ago. Brittanya started to rub the stones together.
"Fire that comes from stones, come forth!"
She was rubbing the stones so fast that sparks started to fly and the torch Jaegar was holding then lit up.
"Hey, isn't she a mage?"
Leonze puzzledly watched Jaegar and Brittanya.
"Why does she need stones to light—"
"Now, where are we?"
Jaegar quickly swung the torch around and put the fire in front of them. There were spider-like monsters looking directly at them.
