Jaegar was walking outside of the tavern when the shaking started. He ran towards the large gate where they entered from the forest. The ground was still shaking when he saw enormous figures coming from the direction of the forest.

The one leading the pack was another giant wild boar, and they were heading straight to the town. If those giant monsters get through town, they would easily trample and crush the houses and small buildings of Yuberden. This was not even considering the amount of people that would be killed.

"Damn it! That must be the daddy."

Jaegar looked at the strange pack of monsters. The large boar was followed by a pair of giant lizards and a pair of giant mushrooms.

"He brought some friends over, huh?"

He glared at the rushing group of giant monsters.

"How did he invite his friends to help him avenge his wife?"

The girl wearing a mage hat appeared beside Jaegar. She was also looking at the pack of monsters heading their way.

"I guess he talked to them."

"So, monsters can actually talk?"

The girl then turned her head and curiously looked at Jaegar.

"That's not the issue we should be discussing right now."

Jaegar closed his eyes and gritted his teeth.

"Ah. You're right."

She looked back at the monsters.

"I'd need to hit monsters that size maybe two to three times to kill it. I don't think I have enough time to kill all of them."

Jaegar looked at his hand while counting with his fingers.

"Oh, so you're pretty strong then."

The girl smiled at him.

"I wouldn't say 'strong' is the appropriate word to describe my best trait."

Jaegar smirked as he looked back at the girl.

"Really? Then what is it?"

She looked at Jaegar while placing her hands on her waist.

"They're coming. Can't you do something with your magic?"

Jaegar glared back at the horde of monsters rushing toward town.

"I can."

The girl slightly smiled while focusing on the group of giant creatures. The monsters were increasingly getting nearer to the town.

"Then why are you not doing it?"

Jaegar glanced sideways at the girl.

"I'm talking to you so it seems rude to just cast my magic and –"

"Just do it!"

He pointed his finger toward the monsters.

"Fine!"

The girl ran forward toward the monsters. She then punched the ground and a large fissure appeared that headed straight to the monsters.

The giant wild boar and a giant lizard were able to evade the large crack, but the others fell into it. The lizard veered to the left side and headed to the wall of the town instead. The wild boar was still headed straight to the town gate.

"Nice! But there are others left! I'll take care of that lizard and you take care of that wild boar."

Jaegar then ran toward the lizard and kicked it. His tremendous speed coupled with his heavy armor caused the lizard to blow up when the kick landed on its body.

The girl then scooped up a large chunk of the ground and held it in one hand. Then, she threw it with ease toward the direction of the wild boar, as if she was just throwing a small pebble. The wild boar was crushed under the large piece of the ground. Jaegar then went back to the girl's side.

"I thought I needed at least two hits to kill them. I guess I don't know my own strength."

Jaegar was shaking off the blood and innards of the giant lizard that splattered all over him.

"Wow, so you're fast!"

The girl was astonished by Jaegar's speed as she clasped her hands together and leaned closer to him.

"I guess. And you're pretty strong… for a mage."

As Jaegar commented while still cleaning himself, the girl's face went from all smiles to a slight frown.

"Well, I'm—"

"You are the greatest mage alive!"

Jaegar smiled at her and gave her the thumbs up. She was surprised at what he said to her and fell silent.

"I am, right…?"

The girl forced a smile.

"Yeah. And you know what? I just had a great idea! Why don't you join me in my mission of exterminating monsters? I could surely use the help of the greatest mage around."

Jaegar nodded as he crossed his arms together.

"Are you sure that's what you really think?"

The confidence she flashed earlier suddenly disappeared. All that remained was the image of a person unsure of their self. She grabbed her elbow and looked away.

"What are you talking about? You know, I was actually against forming a party. Someone said that I had to protect the other party members. If I had the time to do that, I'll just kill more monsters instead. But if it's you, then I have nothing to worry about! If you can find me a mage who can cast her magic as fast as you, then I'll take them instead."

Jaegar squinted at the girl.

"But—"

"And just now, I realized I can't take care of the monsters all at the same time. It's nice to have someone that has your back. So, are you in, greatest mage?"

Jaegar smiled at her. The girl lowered her head. After a few moments, she shook her head. When she looked up again, she stared directly at Jaegar.

"…Yeah!"

She smiled back with a beaming smile.

The two of them went back to the restaurant together to tell Avila what happened. When they entered the restaurant, the servers were already sweeping the floor and picking up the pieces of broken dishes. Avila was standing behind the counter when she saw the two enter.

"Hey, what happened out there Rita?"

Avila put down the dishes she was wiping and focused on the two that sat in front of the counter.

"Oh, the other parent monsters tried to attack the town. This knight here and I stopped them."

The girl pointed beside her.

"My name's Jaegar, by the way."

Jaegar turned his head to face the girl.

"Oh, so that was your name."

Avila clapped when he heard his name.

"I told you my name before!"

Jaegar glared at Avila.

"I'm bad with names. Don't blame me. So, um, what was your real name again?"

 She looked at the girl.

"Brittanya."

The girl with a mage hat smiled as she looked at Avila.

"Ah yes, I remember now! Well, I now have two slaves I can call by their names."

Avila smiled wryly at them.

---

After a few days since the giant monsters tried to attack the town, Jaegar and Brittanya were sitting by the counter. They were also discussing matters with Avila while eating.

"What?! You're not going to stay?"

Avila shouted and slammed her hands on the counter. The people eating inside the restaurant looked at her direction for a moment, and then went back to their own business.

"Yeah. We've been staying here for a few days already. I think the town is a lot safer now since we got rid of those parent monsters the other day."

Jaegar answered her nonchalantly, gulping down the food he was eating.

"Also, we've killed almost all the monsters left in this area, just like what you asked us to do."

Brittanya also answered Avila by stating the truth while she was sitting at the counter beside Jaegar.

"But what will I do without my friends— err, my slaves? We still have a lot to do here."

Avila crossed her arms and looked away from the two.

"Hey, I said I'd help, and I did. Look, I like the free food here. But my mission comes first."

Jaegar placed his spoon on the now empty plate.

"But… do you have to take her as well? I know you don't. Right, Tany?"

Avila pointed at Brittanya with wide-eyed anticipation of a favorable reply.

"I did decide to join him in his mission. If he needs the help of the greatest mage, then I want help him."

Brittanya smiled gently at Avila.

"But, why? Don't tell me he saved you and you fell head over heels for him or something."

Avila was shaking her head, her hand in her face.

"Not really. He's not my type."

Brittanya continued to smile at her without flinching.

"The feeling's mutual."

Jaegar didn't look at Brittanya and drank water from the glass beside him.

"I can't talk both of you out of leaving, can I?"

Avila was starting to be less imposing with her voice. She lowered her arms and gazed downward at the floor.

"Nope."

Jaegar finished drinking and pushed the plate and glass away from him.

"Anyway, thanks for everything. We better get a move on."

Jaegar stood up from his chair.

"Where are you both going now? You do have a plan of action, right?"

Avila was genuinely curious as she waited for his reply. He pondered for a moment before arriving at his answer.

"To the next town, I guess? I'm sure there are a lot of monsters wherever we go."

"That's your plan?"

Avila bowed her head and let out a big sigh.

"Look, if you want to eradicate more monsters and help people like what you did here, go to Jiputin. It's just south of here. People coming from that town told me that there were some gruesome incidents where people were attacked by savage monsters."

Avila stared at Jaegar.

"Oh, now that sounds like a plan!"

Brittanya looked at Jaegar while waiting for his reaction.

"Yeah, thanks!"

Even Jaegar was pleased with the idea since he smiled at Avila. Tears then suddenly fell from Avila's eyes.

"I can't believe this. I feel like it's the second time my parents are going to leave me…"

"Don't start killing us off, you cheeky brat. We'll visit again once we're done. Don't miss us too much, okay?"

Jaegar turned his back at Avila.

"Who are you calling a brat? You don't look that much older than me!"

She was covering her face while still crying.

"And who said anything about missing you? Just die for all I care!"

"The food was delicious. See you around. Let's go, Brittanya."

Jaegar started walking toward the exit.

"Hey, aren't we going to clarify that 'parents' part? We're not a couple, you know."

Brittanya stood up from her seat to follow Jaegar. She abruptly stopped walking and looked back at Avila.

"Bye, Avila!"

Brittanya waved her hand high up at Avila.

When the both of them left the restaurant, Avila stopped covering her face with her hands.

"Those cold-hearted fools. Not even my tears could stop them."

She had a smile on her face.

"I'll be waiting for you guys."
