Chapter 3: Wanted Girls

The way back was done on foot, they couldn't risk the main road on horseback, as it would probably be crawling with Crusaders everywhere by now. Kat snuck through the woods at the edge of the village and spotted what appeared to be 10 soldiers and 1 captain, their armor shining, white and gold all over, and the banner of the empire, a 5-pointed gold star.

"How are we going to get past them, we don't even know where exactly the guns are." said Jody with an apprehensive look, she was already tired of walking, she wasn't in the habit of exercising, and next to Kat's physique she looked even more sedentary.

"I'll get their attention, you go after your Catalyst" Kat looked confident in her plan.

"What, you want me alone to go unnoticed by these crazy locals who wanted to make me a pet?"

"Consider it a test, if you fail... well I don't know, but it won't be good at all." And with a smile on her face, Kat shot through the bushes until she jumped and landed on her feet in front of the village entrance. "Help, I need help, I was attacked by a werewolf on this road!" still with the cloak covering most of her face and body, Kat looked absolutely suspicious, Jody thought, but all she had to do was attract attention, and she had succeeded.

Jody took advantage of the distraction of the villagers and headed towards the tree by the creek, trying not to be seen, when she reached the spot she had woken up earlier, she tried to see if there was anything nearby, but how it could, the Crusaders and the villagers were after her, surely they would have already scoured the place and found anything that was there.

"That must be worth a lot, I don't know exactly what it is, but it must be worth a lot!" Jody recognized that voice, it was the old man who had found her, the same man who had tried to sell her as a slave to the empire.

"I know what these are, they look like those guns that the Majarrus Pirates use, I've heard stories about them in the tavern, they must be very valuable, look how they shine!" said the extremely short woman.

The couple was talking in the back of what Jody imagined to be their house, two silver weapons with black details were wrapped in a piece of cloth, Jody recognized those weapons, how could she forget, they were the weapons that took her life that very day, as strange as it all was, they were her weapons now, and before she could think of what to do, or how to find a way back to her world, she would have to take them back and run away with Kat to the No Man's Land, wherever that might be.

The sun was starting to set, the sky was tinged with orange, Jody could hear the buzzing of mosquitoes everywhere, buzzing and... howling.

Kat was standing in the middle of the road, doing her best helpless maiden performance, which was not at all convincing, the shadow of her cape hid her blindfolded eyes, the Captain of the Crusaders got off his horse and approached with a suspicious expression.

"You there, what is your name, we are looking for two girls, one of them is an Invader."

"I just said I was attacked by a werewolf, I need help, didn't you hear?" said Kat, too debauchedly for someone supposedly helpless and scared.

The Captain put his hand on the hilt of his sword and said, "Take off your cloak and state your name immediately."

"My name is Kyla." said Kat in a serious manner.

The soldiers approached and surrounded Kat, 5 on each side of the road, and then the Captain drew his sword and pointed it toward the girl's face and exclaimed:

"I Ruff, Captain of the order of the holy Crusaders, eternal guardians of Kirion's empire, command you to reveal yourself."

Darkness was already taking over the village, the sun had just set, Kat for her hands on her cloak and lightly pulled it back, but before she could reveal herself, a noise stole the attention of everyone there. Howls were heard approaching, the werewolf from earlier had returned, and he was not alone.

"Run! werewolves are coming!" shouted a middle-aged man as he ran through the small village square. What followed was a confusion of screaming and running, children crying, people falling and running in the opposite direction from the village entrance.

Jody heard the village resident's warning shout, and realized that she wouldn't have much time to think, if those two ran away with their guns, she would have failed her first test in this new world, and would have to return in shame to ask Kat for help, she couldn't depend so much on someone else, she would have to act.

"Hey old man! You have something that is mine, and I want it back!" she exclaimed decisively.

The couple looked incredulously at the girl, in the midst of the confusion it would not be possible to count on the Crusaders' help, and then the little woman said in an aggressive manner, "If it was yours, it would be with you, we found it, it's ours!" Jody couldn't believe that right after trying to sell her, they were still trying to steal it from her.

"Listen here you hobbit project, I'm not going to ask you one more time, give me back my guns and get out of here before you get devoured by whatever is making that noise."

The man took one of the guns and said, "And why should we be afraid? We have this here to defend ourselves!" and the woman reaffirmed, "That's right, we don't need to be afraid of you or anyone else, we will finally have a good life in a beautiful city, and you are our prize." she said as she pointed the gun at Jody's face.

The feeling of being at gunpoint was something Jody wished she didn't know, fear overwhelmed her for a moment, but then her determination made her move forward, one step at a time towards the elderly couple.

"Stop right there, I'm going to use this! I know how to use it, just press here and shoot! I've heard stories about this, stop right there!" But Jody didn't stop and kept moving forward, and then the woman pulled the trigger.
