As a man, Scorpius was a bandit in the deserts on the continent Radon. In the country Pyrite, he mercilessly killed competing bandit groups and used sand magic naturally. He was a prodigy and talented, learning aura without magic teachers nor basic arithmetic.
Scorpius rose into a feared bandit chief but met an untimely demise when he arrogantly provoked the Pyrite government. When he awoke in the Oceanic Realm, he regretted his arrogance. Yet, in this new life, his former debauchery was glorified. The Suzerain Lords were basically bandit chiefs, drinking, fighting, and consuming all in their paths.
Scorpius had a new goal. One day, he would rise to his former glory, but this time, he would be more cautious and calculating. Joining the armies of Suzerain Lord Eris, Scorpius rose through the ranks due to his prior knowledge. Lord Eris invited Scorpius into her palace one evening.
“Scorpius, I find your battle lust alluring. Come to bed with me.” Lord Eris didn’t care for the Suzerain politics. All she wanted was to have sex with as many people as possible.
“Lord Eris, I cannot have this honor. Instead, fight me!” Scorpius yelled with bloodlust in his eyes. He desperately wanted to gauge the power of his Suzerain Lord.
“If I win, I get you.” Lord Eris giggled.
“Whatever, I won’t lose.” Scorpius scoffed.
“Skill: Sand Tomb!” Scorpius attacked right then and there. He was just a soldier, but his ability was already at the level of a low-level Captain.
“Flame Wheel.” Eris shattered the sand attack and moved up in front of the quivering Scorpius. He didn’t think the Suzerains were this powerful.
“You now see the difference between us? Now, you’re mine.” Eris laughed. Scorpius lowered his head.
“Please, Lord Eris, I can beat you. Give me more time.” Scorpius had no sexual drive. He probably couldn’t even please her and didn’t want to face this humiliation. Eris perceived the situation.
“An interesting soldier. One year. Come back, and if you can’t win, I will not just take your purity, but also your life.” Lord Eris boomed angrily.
Scorpius thought of running away. Heading into the wilderness of the Phaunus Forest, he started to train.
“I’m no coward!” Scorpius roared.
Fighting any beast that moved, Scorpius reached the A Rank Sage Realm, his previous peak in the land of the living. He had four months left. There was no way he could get to the F Rank in time. Seriously contemplating fleeing to another Suzerain Lord and compromising his integrity, Scorpius heard a commotion in the distance.
A young Shade was fighting a spirit beast. Wrestling it to the ground, the Shade beat the beast into submission.
“Hey you, hiding over there. Yeah you, come share a meal, you brat.”
Scorpius came over, and the Shade started a campfire, eating the spirit beast gluttonously.
“My name’s Aries, what brings you out here?” The Shade asked Scorpius.
“I’m training to duel my Suzerain Lord.” Scorpius didn’t lie. He was a vile and merciless person, but he was no liar.
“Ha! I was wondering what a fellow Captain was doing out here!” Aries laughed and pat Scorpius on the back.
“My name’s Aries, and I’m a B Rank Greater Spirit. I’m also training to duel my Lord, Suzerain Lord Virgo.”
“Virgo huh? That guy’s a bitch.” Scorpius joked. Aries laughed.
“Hey, I like you. You look pretty down. Don’t worry, one day we can defeat those bastard Lords. Which one do you serve?” Aries smiled with his hideous teeth.
“Suzerain Lord Eris.”
“Talk about bitches! She turned me down when I asked her on a date. What a fucking bitch!” Aries berated Eris. Scorpius couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of Eris turning down anyone. Taking a look at Aries, it did make sense; he was truly repulsive.
“I don’t have much time left. If I can’t beat her in four months, she’ll kill me.” Scorpius explained.
“Hmm, you’re pretty talented. You’re stronger than me, and all I can use are Shade skills. How about this; I’ll teach you to become a Shade, and we make a pact. No Soul Contract necessary, just an honorable vow from one Captain to another. One day, when we’re both become Suzerain Lords, and we’ll take on the whole realm together. If that isn’t possible, we can have a grand duel. It’s a pact between warriors.” Aries was friendly to this young Captain for unknown reasons.
Normally vicious, Aries felt a strange connection and comradery with this struggling peer.
“Why would you help me?” Scorpius asked. He was stronger than Aries at the moment by a sub-rank, and he wondered if Aries was scared he would attack him.
“Just a whim…” Aries shrugged.
Teaching Scorpius, he soon consumed the souls of the beasts of the forest. After four months fighting alongside the young Shade, Scorpius reached the F Rank Royalty Realm while Aries reached finally broke through to the A Rank.
Aries shook Scorpius’s hand.
“It’s been a pleasure training with you. One day, we’ll run this shithole.” Aries waved Scorpius off.
“Our battle will be legendary.” Scorpius thought. This Captain treated him like a brother. One day, he would repay this favor.
Heading back to Lord Eris, Scorpius’s transformation was complete. With his talent and recent buff as a stable Shade, he could actually fight Lord Eris. His two sub-rank rise was due to Aries, but he still wasn’t sure if he could beat her.
“You actually came back? I’m impressed.” Lord Eris thought this little soldier would tuck his tail and run away. Sometimes, it was more fun to track down a scared pet like him than outright killing him.
“How can I run? I thought of it, but this will be the fight of the lifetime.” Scorpius nodded.

“Skill: Sand Tomb!”
“Trying this again?” Lord Eris laughed and shattered the ability.
“Skill: Shade Rush!” He closed the distance.
“Skill: Flame Sword.” Eris created a sword of fire and struck out.
“Skill: Sand Shield.” Scorpius defended.
Back and forth, the two fought to a standstill.
“How did you progress this fast in just a year?” Lord Eris heaved.
“I became a Shade; I don’t know.” Scorpius shrugged.
“This is a tie. I acknowledge your skill. Be my companion. Together, we can rule this territory together. You are worthy of my heart and soul.” Lord Eris offered herself, stripping down.
“Fuck that. We’re fighting to the death!” Scorpius kept fighting, but they were both too exasperated. Lord Eris laughed at his feeble attempts.
“You idiot, we both can barely move. We need to come to some sort of understanding.” Lord Eris exclaimed.
“Bitch, I don’t care. I don’t care about drugs, alcohol, sex, none of that bullshit. I came here to fight.” Scorpius tried to stand up but couldn’t move and was stuck on his knees.
“Perhaps… hmm, I can’t believe I’ve fallen for an asexual.” Lord Eris sighed. This Shade only cared about brawling.
“Shut up and fight!” Scorpius forced himself to his feet in a fury but quickly fell back down.
“I submit. Take my soul, soldier Scorpius. If you won’t become one with me physically, I will offer you my soul.” Lord Eris said.
“What the fuck? Don’t offer me anything bitch, we are going to keep going until one of us survives.” Scorpius was disgusted. Lord Eris was a beautiful Shade, which was rare. Her red eyes glowed mysteriously as her black hair flowed in the water of the Ocean of Souls. Her grey skin was not dead like Aries but glowed with youth.
“No, you shut up!” Lord Eris growled back. This meat head was the level of a low to mid Suzerain Lord, yet he didn’t care about anything except fighting.
Meanwhile, a Captain of Lord Eris walked in the room, confused. Lord Eris was naked, yelling at a Shade who cussed her out repeatedly. Their bickering match was even more passionate than their battle.
“Lord… Eris?” The Captain asked. Neither of the two collapsed and yelling individuals noticed him enter.
“Ah, yes, at last. Please Captain, build a Shade Ritual. This Shade is taking my soul.” Lord Eris commanded.
“Hell no! Don’t listen to this psycho bitch. Let us keep fighting until one remains.” Scorpius commanded.
The Captain was speechless. What in the world was going on here? In the end, the Captain submitted to Lord Eris but was perplexed all the while. She was commanding her own Captain to kill her.
“I’ll never forgive you!” Lord Scorpius screamed. This crazy Suzerain Lord was now apart of his Shade Core. She was one with him, and his aura realm soared. The influx of energy into his Shade Core caused instability, however.
“I’ll defeat every last damn Suzerain Lord! I’ll kill them all!” Lord Scorpius roared. He didn’t care about anything else. This humiliation was all consuming. The forced Shade Ritual was one of a kind. Who ever heard of another person forcefully entering another’s Shade Core against their own will? Was that even possible?
His now cracked Shade Core rose him to the D Rank, driving him to insanity but also causing him to be one of the strongest Suzerain Lords overnight. His first target was Lord Taurus, his neighbor, and another D Rank Suzerain Lord. Lord Taurus was the oldest living Suzerain Lord and an obvious target. Once Aries ascended, they would do battle as well, but that would come later.
“I’m coming for you, Lord Taurus.” Lord Scorpius cackled deliriously.

The Suzerain War continued slowly. Skirmishes and battles drug on over months. Lord Taurus pulled his long black hair out in frustration.
“What in the world has possessed that Shade?” He cried out. Lord Scorpius tormented him for decades, and his incessant annual invasions were a headache.
“Damn that Lord Scorpius. Even if it kills me, I’ll kill that bastard!” He roared in frustration.
The two Suzerain Lords fought a few times throughout the Suzerain War, but their matches went to stalemates every time. He still remembered the decrepit Lord Scorpius crawling over to keep fighting.
“This doesn’t end till one of us dies!” Lord Scorpius shouted, causing chills to go down Lord Taurus’s spine. Their Captains took them away to recover.
“Put me down. Put me down!” The deranged Lord Scorpius screamed as he was taken away.
“That damned Shade. What did I ever do to him?” Lord Taurus slammed his desk, crushing it. Out of the blue, the new Suzerain Lord Scorpius killed Lord Eris and instantly invaded his territory decades ago. It was already shocking enough that he was the D Rank as a new Suzerain Lord, but Lord Scorpius’s obsession with him was borderline creepy. There was no sexual drive nor real reason behind the obsession; it was pure bloodlust.
Lord Taurus tried calming himself down.
“Just a little bit longer. I just need to hold out a little bit longer, and then Lord Darkin will finally help me live in peace, finally away from this maniac.”
