Welcome to Eastwynne University.

This is a very very fancy school. The buildings look like they came from a museum? A painting? Something fancy. Super old and super-rich. Honestly, I don’t care too much but my mom goes on and on about it sometimes.

“We, the faculty, are happy to have you here. For all our returning students, welcome back, and for those just joining us, be ready to

have the best education you could possibly imagine. Eastwynne University prides itself on accepting and teaching anyone regardless of societal status. We believe you all have the potential to become great in life-” A voice from the intercom fills the courtyard.

Blah Blah Blah.

There's a map in front of one of the buildings. What’s my first class? Magic History- where is that?

I place my finger on the campus map. X marks the spot.

The map starts to glow, some kinda aura. An orb quickly escapes. Hovering around me.

“Hello! I’m a navigation assistant provided by the College of Applied Magic. Patent pending.” It speaks.

“Uh- Okay.” I react.

Over the top.

But not gonna lie it’s kinda cool.

“Which building are you heading to?” it asks.

“Humanities.” I reply.

“That’s located on the northwest corner of the campus. Would you like any assistance getting there?” What a nice orb thingy.

“No, thanks- I’m alright.”

As much as I’d rather talk to a GPS than go to class, I walk away heading to the Humanities building,

“Well, if you ever need any help, please come again!”

The classroom is big, I’m hoping that’s a good thing. I plan to either take naps or play games, so please gods look out for me and keep me hidden from the teacher.

I scan the room. Good, there are still spots in the back left. I make my way and get comfy in my new throne. It’s gonna be you and me for a few months.

Might as well play some phone MOBAs to pass the time.

There’s some kinda commotion near the front of the room. Some guy making a scene.

“Ah, you’re right! Our time together must regrettably come to an end. Until we meet again my fair Raena.” He very dramatically stands up. The girl he’s talking to doesn’t seem too interested.

I wonder if they’re together? If so, well-

Actually, I don’t really care, back to games I go.

In walks the teacher.

Gods I’m counting on you.

“Alright, everyone welcome to General Magical Knowledge and History. I’m Professor D’Marco-”

I hear some people whispering.

“Ey, you think this class is gonna be easy?

“Don’t know and don’t care, I’m cheating my way through.”

“Smart thinking.”

They have the right idea.

“Okay! For today’s lesson we will learn about mage life pre-Gaia.” Teach, she obviously heard that.

“Gaia?” Someone asks.

“I’m glad you caught that. Pre-Gaia is before our time on Earth. Although mages have been here for a while, we weren’t always inhabitants of this planet. Our history is very rich with interesting events and not many people know that. Truthfully, they’re too busy with social media, but- That’s a topic for another day. I’m hopeful that this course will help you to become more conscious individuals in our society.”

I’m paying way more attention to this than I thought I would.

It kinda sounds like lore to an RPG (we do live in a magical world after all). You know something you read on a Wiki page when you're really nerding out. Which is-

Almost interesting?

Almost.

But this is real life and for class so minus 1000 points.

How long is this class? 45 minutes, an hour? Don't tell me it's 90-

Everyone starts standing up.

It's over?

Yes, it's over.

Thank you.

I’m heading towards the door, about to cross the threshold.

But-

What was that?

That sensation?

Like something is telling me to do something.

Or someone…

No just ignore it

“Remember aim for a better year!”

That woman.

And so I turn around, finding myself at the teacher’s desk.

She looks up at me as I grab my backpack straps, oh so cool-like.

“E-excuse me, uh, teac- professor.” I mutter.

You are reading story Eastwynne (The Consequence of Gods: Book 1) at novel35.com

“Yes? Ms. Faye was it?” She replies.

“Y-yes, that’s me, Ester Faye.” So cool-like.

“It’s alright, I get it. Teachers definitely have an intimidating presence.” All I do is nod to that.

“It would probably help to breathe.”

Have I really not been breathing?

That lightheadedness, yeah I haven’t been.

One big breath out.

“Now, what can I help you with?” She asks.

“Clubs, I’d like to join one. I could probably look at the email that was sent out…” Knowing me that is long gone, in the trash.

“But- Uh… I’m sure I deleted the email… Do you have any info? Actually... I guess I could look at the bulletin board-”

“It’s okay. Thriving to apply yourself, I see?” She replies.

“Yea… sure.” I smile to make myself seem- better? Like I actually want to apply myself more and join a club.

“Or your parents are making you?” Not a very convincing smile I guess.

“Bingo.” I say. She saw right through me.

“Well, regardless of the reason for joining, clubs are a good way to spend your free time. There are a lot of clubs and organizations on

campus, but the 4 currently accepting members are: drama, music, student council, and combat club. They’re pretty self-explanatory, except for, I suppose, the combat club. You’ll have to ask the club president for what that entails. I can’t imagine it being entirely safe or operating within school regulations…”

Combat club? No way- that sounds totally awesome! How come I never heard of this before? I mean seriously, fighting as an extracurricular. That’s so-

“Seems like that doesn’t bother you though.” No, it doesn’t, Teach, no it doesn’t.

Bodies flying everywhere.

I’m in one of the gyms. Magic exploding, a spark almost hit me. It looks like a warzone. Okay, that’s overexaggerating but it's still totally awesome. I can’t help but throw a few punches myself, man I gotta join this club.

I am so pumped.

“Badass huh?” Someone asks and that someone is a huge guy who's standing next to me. I mean huge, he’s even taller than me and I’m pretty tall. His muscles-

Calm down, all I’m saying is that he’s buff. I mean really. How much does he work out?

“Sign me up coach!” I hope he can see my eagerness. I gotta be in this club.

“Not so fast. Obviously, not everyone can join this club. Our members take this very seriously and have been training hard. You gotta prove yourself, earn your keep.” I don’t care, man, I don’t care.

“I’ll do anything.” Anything, seriously.

You know what anything means? It means cleaning the sweaty floors. Earn my keep huh?

Cleaning floors really?

It’s okay, Ester. Remember the end goal.

Kicking ass for school.

Right.

“You’re what I like to see in youth.” What? Who’s talking to me?

There’s a janitor on the floor cleaning machine, it looks like a mover but for cleaning floors.

“So helpful, so kind. Keeping the school clean.”

“No- really it’s nothing- Ahaha…” I let out an awkward laugh. How long have I not been alone?

The janitor continues to mumble something but I can’t concentrate on that. Imagine the faces I was making thinking I was alone or what if I said something cringe? How did I not notice someone was in here?

Oh god.

A familiar tune. I hear it playing nearby. It's too familiar.

Music breaks me out of my trance.

That song, I know that song.

Instinctively, I’m following the music. To the hallway.

It’s some guy with a phone.

“Light of Dawn.” I let out a breath. Was I running?

He turns around, obviously not expecting to see me there.

“Union of Fables- Light of Dawn. Track 26 on the official soundtrack.”

“Yeah it is... With such precise knowledge you have to be a fan.” He replies. I’ve seen his face before. It’s the guy from history class.

“Fan?” I scoff.

“I’m a little more than just a fan. I have 20,000 hours clocked in and the title of grandmaster.” I continue, “You play?”

Imagine if he plays, I mean. Looking at him- He doesn’t look like your average UOF player.

Clean hair, it’s brown in a style that obviously a professional cut and not like in his bathroom. Hazel eyes that don’t look like he hasn’t slept in days. His skin is so clear, like so so clear, there’s no way he eats the junk food required to climb all day. His cologne-

Okay-okay. I’m not trying to be creepy! It’s just the more I look at him, the more I realize how attract-

Wait. Stop.

“I’m afraid I don’t. Video games really aren’t my thing.” He replies.

Oh god.

“Oh…” I back up.

Holy.

Shit.

I’m.

Such.

An.

Uber.

Nerd.

I feel the blood rushing to my face, I have to get out of here.

“But- after seeing someone approach me so passionately about it, I have to give it a try now right?” He says.

“Yes!” Ester, don’t make things worse. Don’t be overly excited.

“I-I mean only if you want to. It really is a good game though, so I don’t think you’d be disappointed.” Must. Get. Out.

“If the grandmaster says so it must be true.” He says.

Grandmaster.

“I g-gotta go.” My feet move me before my mind can even catch up.

“Wait- I’m Vincent by the way!”

Did he yell something at me? I don’t even know.
