Hello darkness, my old friend
I’m so-
Ughhhh
The conversation keeps replaying in my head. Non-stop.
…
I’m walking along the road. I don't know what I should do... How embarrassing was that? Really?
“Grandmaster.”
Help me.
Please.
A horn blasts. A horn? But not a regular one.
It’s a boat. To the island nearby. I mean why not? I’ve never been there before and I definitely don’t want to go home yet.
I don’t know what I was expecting. It’s really just a bunch of trees. I don’t dislike nature, I like running on trails, but now, I need something to distract me.
I guess I’ll just keep walking until I might find something?
What’s weird is I don’t feel entirely alone. I’m not talking about the animals. It’s like I can almost feel someone else’s magic. I’m sure there are other people on the island, but something about this is different. Magic I’ve never felt before.
But- maybe I’m hallucinating. Forest shroom spores or something?
…
…
…
Okay, I’ve been walking forever now, I should probably turn-
Wait there’s an opening in the trees. Finally something different.

A voice, a kid’s voice.
Of course, I’m not alone.
I look up in the direction of the voice. It’s a kid playing at the top of the lighthouse-
On the railing.
You gotta be kidding me.
He’s doing a balancing act, and you know how these things go. One wrong move and-
He places his foot in the wrong spot and loses balance. My hands lift up, and wind circulates under his body, catching him.
A Laugh.
Did I hear that correctly?
I lower the kid to the ground. There’s a huge smile on his face. You can’t be serious. Did he actually enjoy that? Shouldn’t he be crying right now? Scared out of his mind? Do kids not fear death?
“Again! Again! That was suuuppppeeerr fun!” He’s practically bouncing off the ground.
“Are you crazy kid?! This is real life there’s fall damage!” Even I’m a little surprised at how emotional I am.
He doesn’t seem to care at all though.
“I was flying! Like a superhero!” He starts running in circles with his arms out.
“Unreal…” I mutter. I want whatever juice he’s drinking-
...
My eyes shoot in the direction of the forest, where I just was.
A branch breaks. We aren’t alone.
