Ashton awoke on his feet. An expansive white room surrounded him. He stares around himself suspiciously, all scenarios playing out in his mind.

After wandering around for what seemed like hours, suddenly, a coal-black office desk just materialized; sitting at the desk was a man in a tuxedo who regarded him with an annoyed glint in his blue eyes.

"What the fuck, man!" Ash roared, stumbling back from the desk and the weird man appearing before him.

"Language." admonished the mysterious man.

"Fuck you! I want to go easily." He threatened, mentally preparing himself.

The man in a white tuxedo eyed him wearily. Ashton stared at him, not speaking either. I can stare too! He said inwardly.

"Bothersome!" He mumbled, adjusting in his chair.

Hmph. Ash snorted but prepared for any sudden movements.

"Can you calm down? I don't have all day." He said, and a thick book appeared on his desk.

Ashton chose to remain silent. He didn't know what type of kidnapping this was. His mind was wondering which group was responsible for this. If he escaped, he would make them pay. He scanned the room for an exit, but the entire room was white and seemed to go on forever.

'Fun fact,' the voice emanated inside his mind. 'I can read your thoughts,' said the mysterious man inside his head, looking up from the book.

Ashton's spine pricked when he heard the voice in his thoughts. He swallowed hard and stared ahead.

"Now. Let's get this over with. Like I was saying, I don't have all day..." the man stopped as he was unprepared for the sheer scream the boy let loose in his mind. He clenched his teeth. Half second later, he looked in front of him only to see the teen speeding away.

He couldn't say he wasn't surprised at the child's disobedience. He closed the book and rolled his shoulder.

Shit!

Shit!

He wasn't sure what the man was, but he had a thing coming if he thought a mutant would have made him accept capture.

"Fuck this. I'm not waiting for whatever they have in mind." He declared.

He was planted in a chair that materialized underneath him, and the man held an unamused countenance. His body suddenly froze. And he was unceremoniously dragged backward.

He stared at the thin watch on his wrist. "I see why they killed you," he said, glaring harshly at the teen before him. "I don't have time for the antics of mortals this century. Do yourself a favor and remain sitting until I'm done." He said the last with finality.

That's right, and I was killed! What is this place, then? The thoughts that spiraled into his mind weren't lovely. Ash decided not to respond. He nodded his head up and down, though. He gulped.

"Better. You're, in fact, dead. Unfortunate, right?" He starred. "Whatever. Some miscalculation by some Heavenly bureaucrat mostly." He made hand gestures above his head. Gestures Ash ignored, much to the man charging.

Ash just stared blankly.

Sigh!

"Whatever! Suppose it was a simple death like a heart attack or a truck hitting you while crossing the road out of nowhere. In that case, I could just snap my fingers, and miraculously you would survive and get an interview on the local news station or whatever." The supposed god snapped his fingers, causing an almost echoing effect inside the white room. Ash's eyes bulged, and the memory of what happened returned to him.

He shivered!

The tuxedo-dressed man nodded solemnly. "Exactly. Quite a weird way to go... if I may say so plainly. Be thankful the pain of the memory of your death didn't pass review and therefore removed. I doubt we could have conversed normally. I'm sure a raving lunatic wouldn't understand the weight of this moment."

Ash nodded agreeably. Even though he couldn't feel the pains of his death, he had marginal memory of what transpired. "Am I being a judge? If it is, I regret crippling that child. I d-"

He raised his hand for silence. "Believe me, if this were the judgment, I wouldn't be the guy standing before you. Trust and believe me!" He eyed the kid. Ash started straight ahead. He wasn't what you would call an average teenager.

"I believe you, God?" He asked questioningly.

"I'm not THE GOD," he said with some measure. "I'm what you could call an outsourced entity, a fixer. When the powers that be make mistakes, I intervene on the affected party's behalf." He waited for the boy to get comfortable with the information.

"Oh. So like a court-appointed defense lawyer. Pro bono?"

"Not quite. But I suppose that will do." The entity replied nonchalantly

"Where were we? Oh yeah. I've read over your files." He tapped the thick leather-bound book.

"My purpose is to offer you a second chance at life." He raised his hand, stopping the teen. "Whatever unfinished business you had on your previous world is not my concern, nor can your choices be used to return or distort an already disarrayed balance.

Ash's shoulder slumped. "Don't fret; your last endeavor has set the mortal perpetrators back; I'm not even sure they could recover before others pick them off."

"Moving forward. I'm empowered to offer you four choices; think of them as wishes or upgrades, entirely of your choosing; your imagination is the limiting factor in your decision. Ash's spirits rose at that.

"As an avid reader, I know you've read stories about this scenario?" Ash nodded his head. He clapped his hands. Ash jerked with the sudden action. "Apologies. You don't understand the process of explaining the whole thing; so tiresome.

"Since we agree, sign here; just slide your hand across the bottom half." He said as he scrolled and unrolled in front of him.

"Shouldn't I read this?" Ash asked, taking the scroll.

"Once you sign it, the details will be known to you." Ash looked at the man in disbelief. What kind of shit was that? The god shrugged and waited for him to sign, face blank.

Ash stopped his thoughts. "This is only the baseline of what we discussed. Nothing detrimental about your soul is inside the scroll. He sighed. Ash reluctantly rubbed his hand across the bottom half after glancing at the scroll's contents.

And as stated, he knew the scroll's contents soon as his hand lifted from the scroll.

"Thank you. Now that concludes our time together." Said the man as he stood from the black desk. "Just input your choices into the computer to your left.

He stopped his departure and turned around. "Heads up. Your choices will affect the world of your choosing. So do try to be humble," he shrugged. "Or not." He tipped a white top hat on his head and straightened his tie, and turned his back, throwing up duces he vanished.

Ash slumped into the chair and pondered a minute before running over to the desk. He looked around suspiciously.

"I'm alone?" He said aloud.
