It took a bit longer for the Heirs to finish cleaning out the dungeon. The giant cathedral-like room that had held the mage-lord’s mobile stone sarcophagus-mech hadn’t held any more surprises. They discussed digging into the sarcophagus, but decided it wasn’t worth the trouble or risk of a potential final trap/fuck you spell that collapsed the dungeon or whatever.
They spent a while scouting out all of the ossuary rooms for any other unpleasant surprises. All they found were a lot of bodies and bones. A lot of bodies and bones. As well as a few more newly raised zombies and one very annoying ghoul that tried to jump onto Stella from atop a shelf. Nathan noticed it moving, but Sarah was the one to pin it to the wall with a javelin mid-leap.
Nathan kept his eyes out for any more potential fake walls or anything, but all they found were multiple long rooms full of an army’s worth of corpses and bones. This Mage-Lord had prepared for their return very one-dimensionally.
“What do we do with all the bodies? Especially the Stalkers. Those things are creepy as hell.” Nathan asked the room, and was answered by Khachi.
“We don’t touch them. Especially the stalkers and those creepy eyes. They’re probably worth something, but we don’t want to make them blow up or melt a hole in a bag of holding. We’ll get a share of anything pulled out of this dungeon by the scavenge team that’ll follow us up. They’re definitely sending one after hearing our report, and I bet the Delve Scholars are interested. This is a pretty weird Sklias Dominion tomb. Most of them have some undead, but aren’t nearly as death-mana-centric as this one. And they’ll have the authority to decide what to do with the tomb. Either they seal it back up or go to the effort to cremate all the bodies.”
Sounded like a plan to Nathan! He’d dealt with enough of the corpses in here, he didn’t want to spend a few days carting the rest to a pyre. Especially since the excess stamina was finally wearing out, leaving Nathan feeling mostly normal. It was almost strange to not be full of excess energy and strength.
Eventually, they left the dungeon.
You have leveled up to level 52! Congratulations, you have defeated the Tomb of Hruli Evijas, the Sklian Mage-Lord of Necromancy! |
