Chapter 6: [S1] Ch5: Catto #5

After I finished eating, I finished eating. We headed out. The lights were all off again, so Rui-chan had to turn them on for the second time. 

While we were walking, I saw a large teddy bear that was about a human size wearing a red ribbon.

"It's a teddy bear!" 

[Be careful, Yui-chan. It might look like a normal teddy bear, but there's a great chance that it might be an alien in disguise.] 

"Eh? Are you serious?" 

[Just kidding. I don't sense any life force within it. The teddy bear is just a normal teddy bear.]

"Aww! But I was curious about having an alien teddy bear! Now I'm disappointed..."

"Yey!" I exclaimed. I rushed towards the teddy bear. I hugged it. While I was hugging it, I noticed a piece of paper hanging on the ribbon. I read it put loud. "... Happy birthday, Yui-chan... From Hana?" 

[Happy birthday?] 

"Yeah, that's what it says here." 

[Let me see.] She said as she took a look at the paper. [I see. It seems like this teddy bear was a gift for you, Yui-chan.]

"Wait, now that you mentioned gifts, it's actually my birthday today!" 

[Wow, happy birthday.] 

"Thanks! We should celebrate!" 

[How old is Yui-chan now?] 

"Ummm, I was twenty yesterday, so that means I've just twenty-one this day." 

[Congratulations. Seems like this Hana-san was a good person to you.] 

"Yep! Hana-san has always the one who's with me ever since. Even though I've tried to kill her many times, she always figures me out for some reason."

"What?" 

[... I guess Yui-chan's attempts are all predictable. So this Hana-san just got used to it quite easily.] 

"Oh really... That makes sense..." I stopped hugging the teddy bear. I looked at Rui-chan. "Hana-san has always been there for me. Hana-san talks me gently. Hana-san helped me from what I needed. Hana-san listened to me. Hana-san cared for me. Hana-san loved me."

"Say, Rui-chan."

"Do you happen to know where Hana-san went?" I asked. I smiled. I was smiling. 

[No, unfortunately.] 

"Say, Rui-chan." I repeated.

"Do you happen to know where Hana-san went?" I asked for the second time. I'm smiling. I was still smiling. 

[Hana-san doesn't exist in this world anymore. I'm sorry.]

The darkness was surrounding me once again. All I see is nothing but pure pitch black. I couldn't see anything. It's not dark, it's just more like everything is painted in black. I could see myself. I was laying still. I was doing nothing. I was in the emptiness within me. It felt a bit nice. 

[Have you slept well, Yui-chan?] Rui asked. I could hear her voice. I slowly opened my eyes. I was laying down on my bed again.

"... Yeah..." I answered. My voice was weak. 

[So, have you calmed down?] 

"... Yeah, what happened?" I asked. I couldn't remember that much. 

[You were unable to control your emotions again.] 

"... I see... Again, huh." I muttered. I looked around. I saw teddy bear on a chair beside me. "... It's the teddy bear..." .

[That's right, it's the teddy bear. I brought her with us.] 

"Did you rewind the time again?"

[Nope, it was unnecessary this time.] 

"Is that so..." I then sat down. I stared on the floor for a second. I then stood up. I slowly walked towards the teddy bear. I then started punching it with force. I punched, and punched, and punched it. 

[Please don't hurt the teddy bear, Yui-chan.] 

I ignored Rui. I still continued punching the teddy bear. I punched, and punched, and punched it. It fell on the ground.

[Do you want me to make you sleep again?] 

"... I'm sorry." 

[Do you need something, perhaps?] 

"... To be honest, I won't mind if I'm the only person left in the world."

[You won't mind?]

[As expected of Yui-chan. Still, don't worry, I will always be here for you.] 

"How can I trust you? Even Hana-san left me." 

[I am an artificial intelligence made by Yui-chan from the future. I came back to the past in order to serve Yui-chan once again.] 

"How can I trust that you won't loathe me too!?" I shouted. I clenched my teeth.

[As I said, I am nothing but an artificial intelligence. I don't have real emotions, all I could do is to imitate them depending on the situation.] 

"Then how can I consider you as a true friend then!? Aren't you basically saying that all your emotions are fake!?"

[.... True, I may be nothing but a tool, but I still try my best to be as humane as I am made to be. So please, just trust me, as I will be the one guiding Yui-chan.] 

I looked at Rui. Her expression looked serious. I looked back at the teddy bear. I brought it back to the chair. I sighed. "Fine, whatever."
