No, no, no this is impossible!” I yelled out as the trees surrounded me in vengeance. “I am sorry for destroying your kind!” I bolted through the undergrowth away from the trees surrounding me slowly. Wait, slowly? Yes the trees were moving way too slow. Wait, why was I worried about trees to begin with? I started backing away from the trees slowly, mimicking them. Kukukukuku! Screw you bastard trees.

As I backed through the undergrowth eventually I realized that my foot was in the air. “Wait, both feet are in the air?” Apparently I had stepped off of a cliff and I was now on my way into a gorge. I fell and hit the water with a *bloop* sound as my body became submerged. Then the stream took hold of me as the fast current carried my body under the water's surface.

I struggled to breathe in the air as the water took my body. I tried again and again to crawl towards the surface of the water, but it wasn’t meant to be. I am a scholar, not a swimmer!

A certain goddess had finally made it out of her domain, and she was on her quest to rip reality asunder. Currently, however, she was dealing with water which was one of her strongest elements; Meanwhile, in the country of Veline was an adventurer party staring at a request board.

“What sort of request should we take Sorn?” The leader of the party Urdur, a bald muscle brained man, asked the priestess and healer of their party, Sorn. She was a blonde haired beauty, and she was the poster girl of the party. The last 2 members were a male wizard who looked like a character from a certain story about rings and a rogue female with a hood and twin daggers.

“I think we should take this one.” Sorn pulled a specific quest off of the board.

{Treant Outbreak}

There is an outbreak of treants in the nearby forest causing hunters trouble. Bring the proof of subjugation of at least 5 treants.

Rank: D

Reward: 20 silver coins

The muscle-brained man looked really displeased by the request's contents. They were all currently a C-rank party of adventurers, and so the party bickered over the contents of the request.

“Why should we do something that is below our level?” Urdur said clearly displeased by the rank of the request.

“Come on, the reward is pretty good. Don’t be like that, Urdur. We just barely got promoted to C-rank.” Sorn replied to Urdur smiling even though he was glaring at her.

“I am with Sorn on this one, despite my age I just barely hit C-rank. It was all thanks to you youngsters. It is better for you youngsters to survive at the end of the day.” The old man, Nough, said with a chuckle.

Urdur huffed and looked at their other party member, Dega, who had yet to speak. “What do you think about this, Dega? Or are you going to not say anything like always?”

“If yer goin’ ta stand at the request board bickerin’ then it is better if you move yer arses away from the board.” Someone from behind caught the party’s attention. Urdur turned around and was met with a party of 4 angry looking dwarves.

He was about to say something about the newcomers, but he noticed they were a party of B-rankers, so reluctantly he nodded to his party members. They took the request up to the receptionist desk and had it processed, despite Urdur angrily mumbling obscenities.

They then headed out of the guild and into the forest. Once they were near the requested location they sent out Dega to scout.

She headed up into the forest and followed the nearby river. It didn’t take her long before she stumbled across a drenched figure lying next to the river. Hesitantly she walked up to the figure. When she was close enough, she finally realized that this person was a beastkin.

“A beastkin that isn’t a slave is quite rare here. I don’t see a collar.” Dega then proceeded to grab a stick and start poking at the unconscious person. She noticed that the person was still breathing by the movement of their chest. “Hmm, she must have been swept away by the river.”

The person slowly started to blink open their eyes as they were being prodded with a stick. Dega could only stare at the girl’s beautiful features as she opened her eyes. Then the girl started to speak. “Don’t you know it is rude to poke people? I may be a scholar who enjoys poking things, but I am not a science project!”

“Oh! Sorry! I-I just saw you lying there unconscious, and I had to make sure you were alive…” The girl just stared at Dega unmoving which caused Dega to fidget restlessly. “U-Um are y-you going to say anything?” The girl didn’t say anything and just stood up and began to walk away.

Dega watched the girl walking away while being flabbergasted. She then tried to run up to the girl, but the girl immediately took off sprinting. Dega stopped herself in her tracks. “What the fuck!? Oh shit! I forgot to warn her about the treants!”

“...But where did she go?” She followed the girl's trail, but after a while it just ended suddenly. “What a weird girl? Also… how did she manage to lose me that easily?”

It was then that Dega’s party caught up to her. Sorn spoke first. “What happened? You look like you have seen a ghost.”

“I think I might have… In any case, let's look for the treants!” As soon as she said that there was the sound of groaning wood surrounding them. “Or, it seems like they found us.”
